Real Estate Round Up

It's been a big week of getting back into the kids' school routine and catching up on the blog and styling projects. I'm also in planning mode for an exciting work trip at the end of the month, so that is taking up a lot of mental space, but in a very good way! Feeling happy but tired, I really love the look of this dreamy bedroom. Painted in a soft grey, the room is light and spacious with white on white bedlinen and accessories. I love the way the curtains have been left long, draping along the floor, while the simple bench seat provides a great place for books and magazines.

A delightful home that is white and bright, I just love this dining room corner with its round table, beautiful Børge Morgensen chairs and quirky picture wall.

A favourite here on TDC, Annaleena shared news of her latest styling work over the weekend and as always, it offers plenty of inspiration. Currently listed on Alexander White, the residence has been furnished with some beautiful pieces from Mass Productions who I recently featured, and I immediately spied the new Icha Chairs. The rich walnut colour adds a beautiful contrast and warmth to the concrete dining table. I also love the bold wall hanging in the living room. Thoughtfully curated, the spaces exude Annaleena's signature style and elegance. See the full house tour here

Paper Empire | New Artworks by Stefan Gevers

Paper Empire is a Melbourne based studio that was born from the desire to offer beauty, function and an authentic creativity. Founded three years ago by Therese O’Donoghue and her partner, artist Stefan GeversPaper Empire sells art products to retail stores and online, but has a growing market with interior designers, architects and property stylists. Committed to originality and innovation, Paper Empire are keen observers of trends in art and design, but always follow their own design agenda. They print locally and with several local makers to create products that are of high quality. I met Therese when I travelled to Melbourne last year and was very happy that she got in touch recently to share their latest catalogue which launches today. Featuring 2017 work from Stefan Gevers, along with new Snowpuppe Lighting, Foto Factory and Foruu products, all are exclusive to Paper Empire. For today's post I'm going to share the stunning new Colourfields collection by Stefan.

Consisting of a series of five prints based on original watercolour paintings referencing inner city, urban architecture and shipping ports, the block like forms melt into one another and evoke sensory reactions to tall city buildings, container ships and waterways. Stefan's signature style of reducing and minimising forms to abstraction is beautifully tailored to this series.

A note about the artist:

Stefan Gevers was born in Enschede, The Netherlands and currently lives and works in Melbourne. Formally trained in The Netherlands, Stefan’s work typifies the creative and design style of his original homeland with his approach to minimalism and subtraction.

Stefan takes a contemporary approach to working with watercolour on paper but also works with acrylic on canvas and is known for his felt sculptures. His work is inspired by many road trips through country Australia. His latest trip to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia has resulted in a series of large scale watercolours. The form and textures of the landscape are ultimately reduced to a few but exact colour planes, resulting in a graphically-stylised painting.

Stefan is an award-winning artist with work acquired by the NAB Collection, State Library of Victoria and Queensland, Art Bank Australia and numerous private collections. Stefan has an extensive history in exhibiting his work nationally and internationally.

Colourfields is one of two collections by Stefan showcased in the 2017 catalogue. To see his second collection Goldenfields and the full range of new products on offer, take a look here

Felix Furniture | 2017 Collection Launch

I first introduced you to Melbourne based furniture makers Felix Furniturelast year. A small yet dynamic business, Felix Furniture was established in 2014 by Antonia Morrongiello and Ian Anderson; a couple who were inspired to follow their passion after years of making furniture for themselves. The ethos of this thriving small business is about good, honest design, using sustainably sourced materials to create a range of contemporary handcrafted, plywood furniture. Since launching three years ago, Felix Furniture has quickly grown to be a respected Australian furniture brand, recognised for their unique designs, quality craftsmanship and refined industrial aesthetic. This year they opened their second pop-up shop in Richmond and have now launched their latest furniture collection, which I am delighted to share with you today.

The collection consists of six new pieces for the home, including an Entertainment Unit, Buffet, Dining Chair, Coffee Table, Side Tables and Bench Seat. The duo drew inspiration for their new collection from various materials, finishes and textures. ‘I have always been a tactile person, it’s all about how it feels under hand’ Antonia says. ‘Mixing materials and finishes allows us to draw out so many layers within the piece of furniture and develop a sense of depth.’

In keeping with the Felix Furniture aesthetic, the designs are minimalist and clean, but the couple has branched out with different pieces, introducing new angles and curves not previously seen in their body of work. ‘Our designs continue to evolve as we grow as a business’ Ian says.

Plywood remains the signature, core material used within each of the pieces, with the Mota dining chair solely constructed in Birch plywood. In addition, powder coated steel is featured in the new Lilly Coffee Table and the Douglas Bench Seat, while coloured wax heros the wood grain on the Stanley Side Tables. The new material the team is most excited about however is cork, with the introduction of the Kork collection. Ian says Cork is an extremely undervalued material. 'It comes in a range of incredible grains and colours and it is extremely sustainable. Cork is harvested directly from the tree once every nine years, allowing the tree to regenerate and continue living’.

The entire range is designed and made by the couple in their small workshop in Sunbury. ‘We really value the integrity of Australian designed and made products, so it is important to us to keep Felix local and source only from other small makers and suppliers in the community’ Antonia says. The duo have a real hands on approach to their designs and the making process. Each piece is carefully cross-checked by each other ensuring that the focus is on attention to detail.

Based in Krakow, Poland, Mleko Living is a design studio that creates simple objects for everyday use, in cooperation with local craftsmen. Founded in 2017 by Katarzyna Goluszka and Michal Zaluski, the pair developed a shared interest in the functionality and aesthetics of human surroundings through studying architectural design, whilst living in different European cities.

Their new stoneware collection Canvas was created to bring ease and harmony into everyday life. Simple forms and sustainable use of materials are the focal points of the collection which consists of five beautiful objects: a bowl, a flowerpot, a vase, a carafe and a mug. Handmade in a family run ceramic factory in Southern Poland, each piece is fired in a high temperature to ensure durability, while a transparent finish is used to highlight the beauty of the stoneware.

In terms of pared back simplicity and everyday functionality, the Canvas stoneware collection ticks all the boxes. The size of the bowl makes it really versatile and I love the unique shape of the carafe.

Mleko Living also produce a range of 100% linen tablecloths featuring a beautiful double-sided woven pattern which allows you to choose between two different looks.

Duravit Embraces Nordic Style in a New Collection by Cecilie Manz

Designer bathroom brand Duravit is embracing the concept of ‘less is more’ with its new Scandinavian-inspired collection of washbasins, bathtubs, and bathroom furniture. Created by designer Cecilie Manz, Luv is defined by soft, muted colours and curved shapes. Combining Nordic minimalism with timeless elegance, the series encourages designers and consumers to create an individualised look, with consoles and washbasins available in a variety of finishes and storage options.

Luv’s signature oval shape was inspired by a straightforward vision from the Danish designer. “The image in my mind’s eye from the very start was a bowl filled with water on a simple table,” notes Cecilie Manz. This vision produced the sophisticated purism of the Luv series.

Cecilie Manz brings a new perspective to Duravit,” says President of Duravit USA Tim Schroeder. “The Luv series is modern and impeccably designed. With the combination of Duravit'’s technology and craft expertise and Manz’s artistic vision, the Luv collection is an excellent addition to the Duravit family - just in time for our 200th anniversary.”

Bathroom design is a new territory for Manz, but her Luv line is anything but novice. The collection is accomplished and original, combining Nordic style with traditional, classic features. Luv’s curated selection of available materials and colours brings warmth and durability to the bathroom. Her colour palette of matte lacquers and soft glazes was developed exclusively for Duravit and emphasises the refined aesthetic of Luv.

Peg rails provide a great place to hang and store items and can be used in any room of the home. These first images show a wonderfully creative corner that forms part of a larger space inspired by harmonious living. Styled beautifully by Pella Hedeby for the recent IKEA Festival in Milan, the room features the metal Falsterbro wall rack with hooks. A clean and contemporary version of the traditional wooden peg rail, it also has a handy shelf for displaying small items.

I really like the idea of placing a peg rail in the bedroom, especially with the added shelf as shown below. My bedside table is never quite big enough for all my books. A DIY job perhaps?

This morning I attended a special media breakfast at Cult to celebrate the launch of the new Australian design brand, NAU. Marking 20 years as the leading purveyor of international design in Australia, the exciting launch sees Cult expand into the production, manufacture and retail of Australian design with a contemporary brand that offers furniture, lighting and accessories by a collective of Australia’s most curious, talented and spirited designers.
Fat Tulip Collection by Adam Goodrum for NAU

Aran Bed & Nest Table by Adam Goodrum for NAU

Hosted by Richard Munao, Founder and Managing Director of Cult, the launch not only gave an overview of the designers and their incredible range of products, but also insight into the brand and how it came about.

Now is the time for a new Australian design movement. New by necessity, Australia’s design culture stems from a place of isolation; our influences are unique from the rest of the world, and we have no design ancestry with which to adhere. We are free to immerse ourselves amongst our extreme natural landscapes and unique materials, and as a result have carved out a resourceful, hands-on and open-minded design culture.
NAU is the embodiment of this fresh thinking, broad-spectrum approach, offering contemporary furniture, lighting and accessories brand by a collective of Australia’s most spirited designers including Adam Cornish, Adam Goodrum, Gavin Harris and Jack Flanagan. Producing designs suitable for residential and commercial spaces, from elegant lounge furniture to modular shelving with endless possibility, the NAU collection is reductive in form, honest in materiality and timeless in style.

Driven by the ambition to bring premium European design to Australia, Richard Munao established Cult in 1997 with a humble showroom in the backstreets of Chippendale. Since then, Cult has grown into the leading purveyor of the best international design in Australia and New Zealand, with a portfolio of over 35 brands across furniture, lighting and accessories. Over two decades, Cult has evolved from showroom destination to full-service design house; diversifying into the production, manufacture and retail of Australian design. In 2014 Cult launched its first exclusive collection of Australian furniture; the AG x Cult capsule by acclaimed designer Adam GoodrumSince then, Cult’s product development has grown significantly and it’s time to establish these designs as one brand, and promote Australian creativity to the world. From this, NAU is born.

"After more than 20 years in the design industry in Australia, I have grown an unwavering passion for the production and manufacture of Australian furniture. I truly believe we are at the cusp of a new Australian design movement, and I am incredibly proud to introduce NAU to the market and promote Australian creativity to the world.”- Richard Munao, Owner & Managing Director of Cult and Founder of NAU

Dulux Colours of New Zealand | Downstairs Reveal

If you've been following our downstairs living room progress, you'll know that I recently went through a fun paint selection process with Dulux. As documented in this post, I chose a shortlist of colours from the recently re-launched Dulux Colours of New Zealand fandeck. After installing beautiful new laminate flooring from Flooring Xtra in a dark colour, I wanted to continue on the path of creating a space with warm, natural hues. With over 1,000 colours inspired by the by the natural beauty of NZ, Dulux had plenty of options to choose from across a palette of beautiful beiges and greiges.

After narrowing down my selection to six colours, I used the Dulux Colour Swatch Service to see how the colours looked in our space. The large swatches are vital in getting an accurate feel of how the colours will look, especially in a new area. The light differs greatly to upstairs where I do so much of my styling and photography and while some of the colours had only subtle differences, the one I chose, Kauri Cliffs Double, has a lovely warm grey/pink undertone that works perfectly in our space.

In terms of furniture and layout, this room has gone through quite a few changes over the last few years. New shelving and lighting were at the top of the wishlist and I love how these pieces look in the new space. The Lampe Gras 214 wall lamp is from Tessuti and the Bordeaux Console table is from BoConcept

Due to time constraints (and crazy weather of late) I ended up photographing each side of the room on different days. I have always found the white walls challenging to photograph in this room on a dreary day, but I was surprised at how different the new colour looks. The areas of light and dark create a moody feel which I love.

Dinesen Home

I'm sure most of you will be familiar with the Danish wooden flooring company Dinesen. I've featured their beautiful products many times on the blog so it is with much excitement that I will be visiting their Copenhagen showroom in early June as part of the 3daysofdesign press tour. Today I'm sharing images of the remarkable Dinesen Home in Copenhagen. Designed in 2003 by British designer Anouska Hempel, the exclusive apartment features the unique Douglas planks as a key design element throughout. In 2015, the home was redesigned by Dinesen to form a private setting where the passion for wood, architecture, design and art is evident in every detail.

The images are so breathtaking, it must be a truly sensory experience to see it in real life. Richly decorated with modern art, exclusive furniture and bespoke solutions in wood, the eye-catching Douglas planks are extraordinary by nature.

Dinesen Home captures the essence of the family-run company: the passion for wood, architecture and design, the high level of quality, close client relationships and the desire to provide a source of inspiration.

When Hempel created the exquisite Dinesen Home more than ten years ago, she thoughtfully combined Dinesen Douglas floors with one-off furniture in the same material. For the redesign, attention has been paid to every single detail. The indirect light, which is a signature feature for the designer, creates an evocative setting for the many elements to be explored. One of my favourite rooms is the office which features a collection of books on architecture, art and photography and an incredible plank table which has been dyed with Linseed Oil in the colour note Paris Blue.

To embrace both the past and the future, the apartment is furnished with customised classics as well as modern Danish and international furniture. The mood is Nordic and light with international substance and appeal.

Neutrals + Blue

While my obsession with neutrals continues I'm also enjoying seeing how beige hues pair with other colours. In my Dulux colour reveal last week, I styled the greige walls with a touch of earthy green and it further enhanced the warm tones. Today I'm going to show you ways of pairing different shades of blue with neutrals. From the bedroom to living room, hallway to the kitchen, blue works beautifully with natural linens, timber flooring and neutral accents.

In keeping with today's theme, here are a few picks including some recent finds and those that have been on my wishlist for a while. I'd love to replace our black Unfold Pendants above our dining table with the nude colour below. I'm slowly applying a softer look throughout our home and I love the results. I may now have to introduce a touch of blue to the mix!

Domo Design is a Swedish furniture brand founded by Johanna Haglund and Mathilda Karlsson. Over the last couple of years I've followed along on Instagram and I'm constantly inspired by their sleek, contemporary steel pieces and beautiful styling. Featuring superb craftsmanship, the collection comprises a range of timeless designs including tables, storage and both indoor and outdoor options. I absolutely love their latest images which were created in a former warehouse. The large windows, white plastered walls and contrasting black tiles provide the perfect setting to showcase their collection including the new Domo Square and Domo Shelf Mini.

Dulux | Winter Hues to Inspire Luxurious Minimalism

$
0
0
Offering a luxurious take on the industrial trend, Dulux predicts that a moody palette with warm metallics will dominate interiors during the coming colder months. Promoting raw, pared back beauty, this winter’s colour palette is derived from the 2017 Dulux Colour TrendsConstruct theme. Inspired by the renewed interest in Brutalism combined with the influence of the geometric shapes of the Bauhaus period, Construct offers a minimalist look with a focus on natural materials, structure and form.

Dulux Colour & Design Specialist Davina Harper says that the key paint colours including Boulder Beach, Tirau Double, Moonlight Creek, Narrow Neck Half, Five Fingers Peninsula, Dark Cloud Range, Concrete Effect and Copper Effect can make any space in the home feel modern and contemporary.

“These colours are very diverse and can be used in most interior spaces. Being predominantly neutral, they are extremely accessible, from the lightest variation, Dulux Narrow Neck Half, a soft greige, right through to the darkest hue, Dulux Moonlight Creek, which is an alluring deep blue,” says Davina.

Like me, you may not naturally gravitate to deeper colours, however according to Davina these neutral shades are easy to incorporate without overwhelming a space. Darker hues can create a dramatic backdrop to really highlight furnishings and accessories and truly make a statement. Alternatively, these deeper colours can also be balanced perfectly when paired with lighter schemes.

With tactility being a key element in the winter palette, balancing textures and layering accessories will create a perfect scheme and add another dimension to the space. “Concrete is a multipurpose material that is no longer reserved just for floors or the outdoors.” Adding a Concrete Effect with its cool hue balances out warmer textiles while hints of Copper Effect can create a harmonious and welcoming space.

“Incorporating textured surfaces such as Copper Effect adds further dimension and creates focal points in a predominantly minimalist colour space. This touch of copper is ideal for highlighting architectural details and can also be applied to home accessories,” says Davina.

What I also love about Construct, is that being a somewhat understated colour palette, it allows you to experiment with different neutral colour combinations paired with textures to add interest to a room.

“The dark blues in this palette such as Dulux Moonlight Creek contrast beautifully against a concrete surface whether this be an entire wall, a fireplace or an upcycled piece of furniture. It’s important to remember that these paint colours can be used on a lesser scale too, even the smallest changes can transform a room,” says Davina.

Styling by Bree Leech& Heather Nette King / Photography by Lisa Cohen

For those who may be new to the Dulux forecasts, we are very lucky to have Bree Leech, Creative Consultant and Stylist for Dulux share her tips for every season. Here are her recommendations for winter 2017:

Minimal styling can still have maximum effect. To achieve this, feature interesting bold shapes and a mix of materials such as concrete and metal to create your chic minimal space.

Art is an important styling element in any home and the Construct trend uses it to reinforce the colour scheme, playing on shapes that draw inspiration from the influences of the Brutalism and Bauhaus movements.

Use copper details for a luxurious, rich highlight to juxtapose Construct’s cool colour scheme. It’s okay to mix metal finishes such as silver, platinum & copper - just use a light hand when adding them to the space so they remain a feature finish that enhances but doesn’t take over.

Layer minimal furniture choices with practical side tables, keep to the colour scheme and incorporate forms that work with the architectural style.

Concrete and Copper Effect can be used on furniture details as well as walls to create unique bespoke pieces. Just make sure that if you are upcycling furniture such as a table that you add a glass top to safeguard the paint.

Established in 2013, Alexander &CO. is a Sydney based architectural and interior design company specialising in both commercial and residential projects of the highest quality. I recently stumbled across one of these projects, Iluka House, a stunning transformation of an existing waterfront holiday villa in Palm Beach, Sydney. Struck by the elegance and beauty of the home, which has a restrained European feel, I reached out to the firm's director Jeremy Bull to find out more.

With a brief to improve the home spatially, enhancing the incredible views and access to the water, Alexander &CO. prioritised the architectural framing, creating an open space that spills out onto the outdoor garden, allowing for a beautiful transition between indoors and out. The owners regularly entertain and host guests, so the open plan living space and garden were to become the central focus in creating a home away from home.

The house is focused upon the hand-made and features beautiful bespoke detailing and a high level of craftsmanship. Exquisite in every way, I love that the paired back interiors and subdued palette creates a lived-in atmosphere. This was an important element for the owners to experience a sense of place and history.

A dream holiday home wouldn't you agree? Visit Alexander &CO. to see more of their incredible work.

Before heading into the weekend, I just wanted to give you a heads up that I am off on my trip tomorrow. I have a tightly packed schedule during the press tours so the blog will be quiet over the next two weeks. I will however be sharing the sights on Instagram, so please follow along. And of course you can expect plenty of content on the blog when I return from Denmark and Melbourne.

For the latest issue of Homestyle, I was given the fun task of styling one style of table lamp in three ways for the 'Three Ways With' feature. An exciting prospect given my obsession with lighting, I have always wanted to style the beautiful and iconic Akari lamps by Japanese American designer Isamu Noguchi. Made from Shoji paper, the lamps emit a lovely diffused light, bringing a sense of calm to all sorts of settings.

You will find the full list of credits here, and if you haven't already, be sure to pick up a copy of Homestyle . I recently arrived in Melbourne for a fleeting visit to Denfair before returning home from my Copenhagen trip. I can't wait to start going through all my photos and press info to share with you from my travels, but first I'm going to share some highlights from yesterday. My first visit to the boutique trade event, Denfair is the leading destination for contemporary design in Australia. Held over three days, the fair is founded on principles of authenticity and has a strong focus on Australian emerging and established brands. Bringing together the brightest talent from local and international brands, there were many highlights. I'll be picking out a few to share, starting today with Fred International

Following its debut at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, Fred presents Fogia’s 2017 collection in an exclusive reimagining for the Australian market. Featuring a beautiful selection of furniture from the Swedish brand, the pieces represent the company's commitment to moving Scandinavian design forward whilst honouring timeless quality and craft. Continually challenging the notion of Scandinavian design in a contemporary context, this unique showcase presents the debut of new works by Scandinavia’s leading designers including Luca Nichetto, Note Design Studio, Andreas Engesvik, Nina Jobs and Monica Förster.

Fred presents Fogia is complimented with lighting by RUBN, against a clean yet textural backdrop of rattan. The standout exhibit was beautifully designed by Angela Harry, with art direction by Simone Haag.

News from BoConcept

Recently I started looking for a shelving solution for our downstairs living room update. The new Bordeaux console table by BoConcept came to my attention, and drawn to the minimalist design and clean lines, I promptly went in store to check it out and ended up taking one home to test out. The narrow width makes it perfect for our compact room and what's more, the greige hue blends seamlessly with our new Dulux paint colour. Once it was styled (take a look here), I was so happy with how it looked decided I had to keep it. Just one of many styles and options on offer, here's a look at some more from the Bordeaux range.

Designed by Morten Georgsen, Bordeaux has a light-weight and minimalistic structure. While its size makes it perfect for compact living rooms, the hallway, office, kitchen or dining room, it's not strictly limited to small spaces. A natural 'stand alone' solution, the table above can be placed behind one of the BoConcept sofas or in the corner of a room. It also pairs beautifully with the BoConcept Lugo coffee tables and the Como boxes. What I also love about this piece of furniture it is that it has multiple shelves, providing a place to display books, art and objects.

Another new release from BoConcept is the Florence dining chair by Rene Hougaard. Derived from the latin word “Florentia", which means “the blooming”,  the chair is available in different veneers and finishes allowing you to create a unique look. While many chairs made of moulded plywood prove to be uncomfortable for longer periods of sitting, Florence, which took two years to develop, solves this issue with a folded and curved veneer design that features an organic shape. The top of the backrest is curved backwards to create comfort, while also making the stackable chair easy to grab. The slim waist of the chair underlines the organic shape and makes the backrest flexible, further increasing the high level of comfort.

Lastly here is the elegant Cupertino desk. Perfect for the home office, it features a light design with a slim table top and slender legs making it ideal for the narrow space of a hallway, as extra storage in a small living room, or even as a bedroom dressing table.

For those who've been following my travels on Instagram, you'll have seen that I recently returned from Denmark. A place that I have been longing to travel to, especially since launching my blog five years ago, it exceeded all of my expectations. Now firmly cemented in my mind and heart, Copenhagen encompasses the very best in design, and I was enthralled by the beauty, architecture and history. But I was equally blown away by the wonderful people I met. Warm, welcoming and incredibly humble, this was apparent from my first meeting with Lisa Kjær Jensen, the PR & Communications manager for at Erik Jørgensen. Picking me up from the airport, Lisa drove me to Svendborg, where I would spend the night at the most idyllic seaside setting before heading to Copenhagen for the rest of my stay in Denmark. Located on the island of Funen, Svendborg is where the production house for Erik Jørgensen Møbelfabrik is based. Very excited to be given a tour, it was great to gain insight into the company, and a look behind the scenes prior to attending their new showroom opening later that week.

The photo above shows a peek inside 'The Office'. One of the stunning new spaces inside the new showroom showcasing the incredible Ox chair, I'll be sharing plenty more in the next post.

ThErik Jørgensen brand was founded in Denmark in 1954 by trained upholsterer and saddler, Erik Jørgensen. The collection consists of well known classics from Hans J. Wegner and Poul M.Volther as well as new furniture produced in collaboration with new young designers. From the early days, Erik was in high demand from the local community for his expertise as an upholsterer and he went on to develop a small sofa collection in the 1960s and 1970s. With a focus on craftsmanship, quality and aesthetics, the second-generation family-owned company continues to be known today for its high quality and upholstery expertise.
When Erik Jørgensen passed away in 1998, his sons Niels and Ole Jørgensen took over the company and began forming new design partnerships. An important part of the brands DNA that has continued to this day, Erik Jørgensen collaborates with many young designers including Louise Campbell, Tine Mouritsen, GamFratesi, Andersson & Voll and Anne Lorenzen. I had the pleasure of meeting the brothers during my stay, and it was wonderful seeing how they have carried on their father’s heritage. At Svendborg I enjoyed chatting to Ole and Lisa about how the company has evolved while drinking coffee and eating delicious 'Brunsviger', a traditional cake of Funen. Ole also kindly took me on the production tour. Here's a look behind the scenes.

The production tour allowed me to see first hand how Erik Jørgensen creates furniture designed to last. The leathers and most of the fabrics are measured and cut by hand by the talented production team, ensuring absolute precision. Only pure block colour fabric is cut on the machine. If there is even a slight pattern in the material they are cut by hand to ensure it is done perfectly.

I was particularly blown away by the skilled expertise of those working with the beautiful leathers. As I showed previously, the leathers are first cut by hand. At the same time they are checked closely for any markings, as even the most minuscule ones must be removed. The photos above show how the incredible stitching detail is applied the Delphi sofa. Designed by the Swiss designer Hannes Wettstein in 2007, the sofa features the craftsmanship and minimalistic design that is the epitome of a true Erik Jørgensen sofa.

The images above show two of the Erik Jørgensen classics in production. A true testament to the brand's upholstery expertise and attention to detail, the Corona seams are being stitched by hand. This chair became a classic a long time ago and has appeared in numerous films, fashion editorials and music videos. Poul M. Volther was inspired by the human anatomy when he designed the Corona and despite looking light, it is actually as strong as a spine. The Ox chair is one of Hans J. Wegner’s more humorous designs. While designing the piece in 1960 he said “We must be careful not to take things too seriously. We must play but we must be serious about playing! “ Hans J. Wegner designed over 500 chairs and the Ox chair remained one of his favourites. He had one in his living room and enjoyed it for the rest of his life.

A look at some of the newer designs and two of my personal favourites, the Eyes Arm chair designed by Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen (top image) is ready for packaging and delivery. Made from moulded polyurethane foam, I really enjoyed watching the upholstery process which involves the chair being placed in a very high temperature machine to seal the fabric. The buttons 'eyes' and legs are then attached. Another highlight was seeing the Shuffl sofa by Anne Boysen come to life. I absolutely love the colour and corner detailing.

The beautiful modular sofa was showcased during 3daysofdesign at the Erik Jørgensen Contract showroom alongside the incredible installation from Wallpaper*Handmade ‘Portal’, a collaboration with Snønhetta.
