Some serious eye candy for you today, this project aptly entitled 'Beige' is by Architects Evgeniy Bulatnikov and Emil Dervish. While the classical architectural detailing and large rooms give the home an incredible sense of grandeur, the interior design is elegant and restrained with a muted palette, warm wood, beautiful furniture and statement lighting.
Providing continuity and flow, the same beige hue carries through to the minimalist kitchen bench and bathroom furniture with the addition of beautiful brass fittings. The perfect calm surroundings for a long soak in the tub, the stone backdrop anchors the space, adding a touch of colour and textural element.

Aesop's new fragrance Hwyl Eau de Parfum landed on my desk this week and I literally dropped everything to test it out. As I opened the beautiful packaging the scent hit me with unmistakably smoky notes, followed by rich aromas of wood, moss and robust spices. The company's third fragrance designed for men and women, Hwyl was formulated in partnership with French perfumer Barnabé Fillion to awaken the senses. An intriguing scent evoking the verdancy and stillness of an ancient Japanese forest, Barnabé says his inspiration for Hwyl Eau de Parfum was sparked by walking amongst the remarkable 300-year-old Hiba trees in an ancient Japanese forest and experiencing the country’s lush temple moss gardens.

Danish brand ViSSEVASSE have released a beautiful new poster series by the Swedish art photographer Dan Isaac Wallin. With nature being a recurring theme in Dan's artistic work, the photos are taken during his travels where he likes to seek out deserted areas, until the perfect composition appears. Consisting of five new captivating posters, the collection showcases salty oceans in Sisjon Sweden, raw granite and dry deserts in Baja Califiornia Sur, and snow-covered mountain peaks in Kvalnes, Norway.

During 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen I had the pleasure of dining at the stunning Restaurant 108 courtesy of Table Noir. Creating unique cutlery for the world's best restaurants, Table Noir designed and tailor made the cutlery for 108. I first featured the Michelin restaurant in this post and was so excited to have dinner there with the press tour. Treated to an incredible menu, the beautifully elegant, minimalist cutlery was certainly a talking point. Presented next to the ceramics by KH Würtz made for famed Noma, this is an amazing accomplishment for Table Noir. The cutlery and can be purchased from the design shops at both Design Museum Denmark and Copenhagen Contemporary Art. It will also be available in a BRILLIANT edition in polished, stainless steel.

This morning I attended the exciting Dulux Colour Trends 2018 launch where we stepped into the future, discovering the colours set to infiltrate NZ interiors in the year ahead. A result of extensive global research, the Dulux Colour Trends 2018 BALANCE is a collection of globally inspired hues, cocooning combinations, breezy neutrals and folklore-inspired shades that celebrate the traditions of the past and the innovations of the future. Wonderfully presented by Dulux Colour Expert Andrea Lucena-Orr who was over from Melbourne, the trends include four carefully curated themes: Essential, Kinship, Escapade and Reflect. Coming away feeling hugely inspired by these beautiful palettes, I can't wait to unveil more about these trends (along with the most incredible imagery) throughout the coming year. Today I'm going to start with a brief overview of each of the four palettes, but first, here's some insight into BALANCE and the inspiration for the 2018 themes. With many of us looking to slow down and find more balance in our lives, design will shift from the prescriptive to the more personalised. Raw textures and soft neutrals will dominate, juxtaposed with rich, luxurious green and playful, tropical brights – a broad-reaching palette that’s all about individual expression. This compilation aims to both nurture and inspire, with colours and textures drawn from nature paired with zesty shades that hint at adventures in faraway places.
So how are 2018 trends different from the past? “Natural, earthy colours and textures will be coming to the fore and there will be even more of an appreciation for the comfort of imperfection,” says Dulux Colour Expert, Davina Harper. “Soft, greenish-greys such as Dulux Spanish Olive and neutral pinks such as Dulux Mornington Half are predicted to be popular in 2018 as they provide the perfect base to experiment with many of the bolder brights coming through,” says Davina. “We’ll also continue to see darker colours and striking hues being used in small doses to add dashes of drama to the home.”

EssentialAdopting a Nordic philosophy to be present in the moment and to appreciate the simple things in life, people are becoming increasingly considered to nurture their time, and personal connections to people and nature. The Essential palette takes its cues from the minimalist movement by only owning what you need and what makes you happy; as well as collaborative design to reduce waste. Imperfect finishes, uncomplicated design paired with interesting textures from new materials created from waste and by-product underpins this movement. Comprising soft warm shades of leather, putty and cooler green-greys, Essential’s colours are calming and nurturing with stronger highlights of blues and terracotta.
KinshipA gentle revolution is underway. We are reducing noise and drowning out negative vibes by creating space for kindness, truth and transparency. With colours to lift you up with their positivity while keeping you snug with their warmth, Kinship celebrates cultural heritage in a contemporary way, taking inspiration from folklore details, such as tassels, patterns, fringing, stitching, embroidery and carving. The colour palette exudes warmth, mixing earthy and rich hues with cosy neutral shades.
Escapade
Everybody will be a tourist in 2018, a global citizen charting their global adventures on social media. Escapade’s style encapsulates luxury Hotel experiences; and the glamour of sun drenched Brazil, Palm Springs and Miami that is playful, colourful and tropical. Patterns include geometric and diagonal lines mixed with summery botanical prints. 80s furniture style is referenced through features of coloured glass and acrylic, while being organic and block-shaped in form. Channelling a tropical holiday vibe, the Escapade palette features saturated colour combinations from pale mint to deeper shapes of teal and blue. Pink hues create tonal schemes and black is used in small doses to punctuate the overall look.
Reflect
The age of intelligence may be upon us, but our romance with the past lives on. As smart technology reshapes the look and feel of our everyday life, we take the opportunity to reflect and reconnect with the design icons of our past. Reflect’s style has a hint of nostalgia, revisiting 1970’s glamour, 90s swagger and the elegance of the 30s and 50s. The Reflect trend’s moody scheme draws on the splendour of jewel tones to create an opulent yet tastefully elegant colour palette. The focus is on greens and warm shades from pink to greyed-off purple hues, with avocado featuring as a highlight accent.

A new colour joins the Birdy series with the introduction of matt black. First released in 1952, the award-winning series designed by Birger Dahl includes table, wall and floor lamps available in grey, off-white and reddish brown Marsala, complemented by metal parts crafted in polished brass, matt brass or matt steel. For the new edition, Northern Lighting chose a deeper shade of black that resonates with sophistication and style, colouring the entire shade, base and interconnecting metal parts to create a compelling monochrome lamp. Autumn sees the introduction of a new release of the Butterfly in a brushed brass finish, offering a touch of elegance as it softly diffuses light. Dating back to 1964, Butterfly designed by Sven I. Dysthe brought a refreshingly minimalistic approach to interior lighting. Since then, Butterfly has grown in popularity, becoming an icon of mid-century lighting that continues to inspire architects and designers today. Constructed from three overlapping curves, the design has a uniquely organic profile and distinctive silhouette that resembles the shape of wings. Recently I was invited to experience Gerome, the beautiful new restaurant in Parnell, Auckland. I decided to take my husband there for lunch to celebrate his birthday last week and we had such a wonderful time, as some of you will seen on my Instagram stories. Designed by Paul Izzard, the interior, which has been nominated for a Best Award, features sprawling open spaces, charcoal marble table tops, velvet booths and handmade lighting. A gorgeous sunny day, I popped upstairs to check out the light-filled mezzanine floor and was wowed by the striking pitched roof. This floor also features a private dining room and bar with a west facing deck overlooking the Domain, providing the ultimate sun down experience. ![]()

The food was also exceptional. Offering sophisticated, inspired, exotic interpretations of modern Greek food, the kitchen is led by international head chef James Kenny, who spent time living and working in the Greek Islands. With roots in authentic Greek cooking over charcoal and wood fire, the sharing dishes are given an innovative twist with contemporary culinary techniques, using New Zealand’s finest ingredients, such as sustainable fish from Leigh and shellfish from the Chathams. Influenced by changing seasons and the abundance of amazing NZ produce, Gerome frequently changes the menus to accommodate the philosophy that food is reflective of many elements. We were lucky to experience a new menu and every plate was divine. Served on handmade crockery from Piha-based pottery artist Richard Naylor, the food presentation and service was also faultless. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

Recently I attended the preview of the Città SS17/18 collection, Paradise Found. Inspired by Tahiti and her beguiling islands, from the untamed Marquesas to beautiful Bora Bora and dramatic Moorea, this collection evokes the warmth and sensuality of Tahiti’s natural landscapes and people that so captivated French artist Paul Gauguin and American author James Michener. As many of you know, Città is inspired by the world's unique cultures and with each collection, the NZ-based brand shares a global design story. Imogen Tunnicliffe, head of Città Textile and Product design carries out extensive research, including travelling to the destination. I always love hearing her talk about her discoveries and how she and the design team translate this into a beautiful new collection. Every time I attend a launch I leave feeling inspired and excited about the upcoming pieces which include everything from lighting and furniture, through to homewares, textiles and accessories.
The Tahiti preview also included special guest Xanthe White, an award winning landscape designer and author, who shared her secrets on perfecting the imperfect garden. A great fit for the new collection which is inspired by Tahiti's lush tropical valleys, dramatic volcanic cliffs, and mineral green lagoons, all of which provide a kaleidoscope of colour to inspire the season’s palette. Prints evoke a painterly style with swathes of colour in heightened, saturated tones, while simplified shapes and organic forms flow as freely as the rhythms of the islands. ![]()

Well-worn organic textures set a relaxed mood, taking shape naturally in unrefined silk, distressed and washed linens, chunky embroidery and substantial hand weaves. Beautiful new work by Lotta Agaton has surfaced this week including an interior design project she has been working on for property development company Patriam. Commissioned to design several newly-developed apartments located in Vasastan, Stockholm, Lotta worked alongside architects Semrén & Månsson. Developing two different design concepts, Lotta created this one as a haven, an escape the the city's fast pace. With themes of 'classical nature' and 'modern minimalism' the rooms are calm with relaxing tones to create balance and harmony. Beautiful materials chosen for both their aesthetics and durability include Terazzo stone flooring and kitchen and bathroom counters. The image above shows one of Lotta's moodboards. Photographed by

101 Copenhagen is a new Danish design brand centred around the creation of beautiful accessories that showcase exquisite craftsmanship and timeless design. Collaborating with talented artisans, their first collection reflects a passion for wood and textures with a simple organic style and calming colour palette. In addition to handcrafted dinnerware, vintage wooden pieces and unique ceramics, the offering includes handknitted and velvet cushions, beautiful coffee tables and suede storage boxes. The pieces are showcased alongside beautiful furniture by NORR11, who also collaborated with 101 Copenhagen on the stunning new lighting collection.

Last Friday I flew down down to Christchurch to attend the exciting preview of the new H&M store. Located at The Crossing in the city's CBD, this is the site of H&M's second store in NZ, following the opening in Sylvia Park, Auckland, last October. Spanning 2535 square metres and set over two levels, I was amazed at the size of the store and huge range of apparel and accessories for Men, Women, Kids & Baby. However the most exciting part for me was witnessing the unveiling of the first ever H&M Home concept in NZ. Located upstairs, the Home department was much bigger than I had anticipated and offers the extensive Spring collection. Look out for a few pieces popping up on my Instagram, including the beautiful linen tablecloth I posted yesterday! ![]()

Following the preview, I attended a gorgeous press dinner at Twenty Seven Steps. Showcasing pieces from the H&M Home Spring Collection, we had the pleasure of meeting some of the H&M team, including Hans Andersson, the Australia & New Zealand Country Manager for H&M. Now officially opened, I've picked out a few pieces from the store that caught my eye.

The new Simon James Concept Store in Newmarket recently opened its doors to reveal a beautifully elegant, light-filled space. Located in Kent St, the store offers a modern, intimate and pared back setting to discover and purchase homewares, fashion, design, jewellery and beauty items. The stunning interior was created by Interior architect Rufus Knight, while Nat Cheshire of Cheshire Architects worked on reimagining the exterior of a brick building that once went unnoticed. With textured, soft sandy ceilings, pale tones, stripped-back wooden floors and a large central stone island, this is a calming space that allows you to slowly introduce yourself to the products and collections. A space for conversation and experience, where less is definitely more, I visited for the second time yesterday and fell further in love! ![]()
The beautifully curated shop sees Tom Dixon homewares sit alongside furniture pieces by Simon James and fine diamond jewellery by Jessica McCormack. An evolving edit of clothing will showcase local designers Mahsa, Paris Georgia Basics and Penny Sage, alongside local beauty and apothecary products by MARYSE and Curio Noir. All share common ground in their ability to combine beauty with function, and each represent enduring and thoughtful design. Within the space is an area dedicated to Jessica McCormack diamond jewellery, including a seating and consultation area for clients and a secret-reveal mirror enclosed within one of the walls. Simon James is the only retailer of Jessica McCormack outside of her namesake Mayfair jewellery shop in London. By appointment services are available for those who wish to shop privately or would like one-on-one assistance - whether that be selecting the perfect pieces for the home, a jewellery consultation, or help finding a special gift for someone. Swedish brand HIMLA has launched a unique collaboration with interior styist and photographer Daniella Witte, and the imagery she has created is stunning. Representing Scandinavian Simplicity, most of HIMLA'S products made from linen, but they also work with other natural materials like wool, silk and cotton. Using textiles from the range, Daniella has created a relaxed interior with natural colours and a simple aesthetic. Beautiful stone floors are softened with sheer linen curtains and a warm layering of textiles that carry through to every room in the home. These include soft rugs underfoot in the living room, scattered cushions on the sofa and a lovely layering of tablecloth and napkins on the dining table. Bathed in light, the bedroom is my favourite. With a busy week ahead I thought I'd get a head start on the blog with this lovely, light-filled home in Stockholm. Currently for sale via Fantastic Frank, it features white washed walls and floors. These are warmed up with a touch of marble, warm wood accents and soft linen pieces including cushions, bedding and curtains. The cabinets and open shelves are a stylish and functional solution for the open plan living space, providing both storage and a place to display framed prints, small objects and lamps.

Following on from her much loved series Salt and Sky, internationally renowned Australian photographer Brooke Holm is returning to Modern Times this Thursday for her second solo exhibition, Mineral Matter. Having relocated to New York in 2016, Holm’s return to Melbourne marks the premier of a highly anticipated body of work depicting Iceland’s dynamic landscape and river deltas, documenting their movement of minerals through streams and rivers leading out to sea. Photographed entirely from above, this breathtakingly beautiful series is a departure from the earlier work exploring the impact of human interference on the landscape. Mineral Matter is focused rather on the energy and force within nature in creating pathways and areas where humans can then reside, explore and embark on adventure.

Brooke is able to represent the forceful command of nature with a divine sensitivity, textured tracks; flights of birds; and ripple of waves create a sense of uninhabited wilderness. Her lens captures the awe-inspiring influence of nature and puts humanity’s domination over the environment into question.

Working with the Creative Director of the Dulux Colour Trends, Bree Leech, I was given the task of creating a concept for an interior space, reflecting the Colour Trends' Kinship theme. Featured in the Dulux E-mag, here's a look at how my living room came together. I loved interpreting the Kinship trend. The rich earthy hues are very much on my radar right now and I was immediately drawn to the deep red, brown and caramel tones. Together with cosy, neutral shades they create a warm, cocoon-like atmosphere perfect for a living room concept. For the walls I used Dulux Tikitiki alongside Hildegard. My hero pieces, a Fritz Hansen Lune Sofa, pendant light, layered rugs and wall art, are inspired by Dulux Very Terracotta, Raccoon Tail and Fortrose. I chose Dulux Glinks Gully as a neutral accent to carry through to other furniture selections. Embracing expressive folkloric elements of the Kinship theme I have chosen beautiful wood, woven and ceramic pieces to add texture and interest to the room.
