Lighting Designs by AllexAllen Studio

Today I discovered a beautiful collection of lighting designed by Brooklyn-based AlexAllen Studio. Founded in 2013 by Alexandra Burr and Allen Slamic, the couple also design furniture and work in the field of architecture, having met while earning their Masters in Architecture at Yale. After moving to New York and gaining experience working for award-winning firms, they joined forces to set up their own studio. With a shared belief that design is about balance, proportion and refinement, they look for the fine line between both richness and restraint and minimalism and tactility. A material and process driven approach sees them constantly exploring new manufacturing methods and technology to come up with designs that are smarter, more sustainable, more efficient and more accessible.

Minimal in form and large in presence, the contemporary lights look incredible in this beautiful home setting. I particularly love the curved shape of the Chord pendants pictured above and below. Drawing inspiration from minimalist jewellery, the lights feature metal finishes and details that exude the same refinery and elegance. Light emanates into a void, its source hidden in the simple form of a delineated semi circle. A portal of light inscribed in a geometric form, it comes in three variations, the Chord, Chord Convoy and Chord Cluster.
