The new home of Sydney’s premier boutique physiotherapy and clinical Pilates studio is a beautifully understated, light filled oasis designed by Tom Mark Henry. Designed to provide a calming environment for clients recovering from injury and chronic pain, the design employs a soft palette of natural tones and textural finishes to achieve a space that is as aesthetically inviting as it is comforting.
Making the most of its small footprint the design uses curved walls and joinery, allowing the spaces to flow effortlessly into each other, while cleverly creating the illusion of a larger volume. The incredible reception counter provides impact on arrival, with its eye-catching, sculptural silhouette. Integral to the design and reworked floor plan are the floor finishes, which help to delineate areas such as the reception from the circulation space and the studios.
A considered use of indirect and feature lighting creates a sense of softness throughout the space. This element also enhances the material choices which include timeless walnut timbers offset by natural render to help soften the walls. Ribbed glazing allows light to filter through the space, while also helping to distort views for privacy.
