This time last week I was at DENFAIR in Melbourne, soaking up all the incredible local design. Such a fun and inspiring couple of days, it was a great opportunity to meet designers face to face and discover new collections. There is so much hard work that goes into creating the exhibitions, and an immediate standout for me was Coco Flip, who received the DENFAIR 2019 award for Best Small Stand. After admiring the work of founders Kate Stokes and Haslett Grounds for many years, it was such a pleasure to finally meet them both in person, and to view their Sequence collection, shown for the first time at DENFAIR. This was showcased alongside the new Honey collection, recently featured here on TDC.

Taking inspiration from the Art Deco movement, the striking stand featured two large archway entrances to welcome visitors. Inside, the V-grove clad stand and a huge circular opening in the ceiling references the architectural work of Roy Grounds. This provided the perfect backdrop for the Art Deco inspired Honey lights. A collaboration with Bendigo Pottery, Charles Sandford and glass artist Amanda Dziedzic, the lights feature slip cast ceramic stoneware, hand turned American white oak, and different glazes and finishes that are all incredibly beautiful and tactile. It was also great to see one of the iconic Coco Flip Mayu Pendants included in the display.

Sequence is an eye-catching new series of tables and bench seats that are both fun and versatile in nature. In mathematics, a sequence is an enumerated collection of objects in which repetitions are allowed. Sequence features a simple, spun steel leg with a gentle curve that is offered in a number of heights. Sitting solo, in pairs or multiples, the cylindrical legs join seamlessly with a shapely, slender top.

I love the sculptural curved shape of the Bench Seat. Shown above in Paperbark, with an upholstered seat, the shape, size, height and colour of all the products can be customised, making the options for Sequence infinite.
