A celebration of iconic cabinetmakers and proud craftsmanship, Danish brand Garde Hvalsøe is a constant source of inspiration when it comes to kitchen design. Combining the hand-crafted with a timeless aesthetic, the company will always be dear to me following this Copenhagen design tour back in 2019, where I had the privilege of learning more about the materials, processes and craft. Today I’m sharing their latest kitchen Layer - a refined vertical design that brings out new layers of Garde Hvalsøe’s sublime craftsmanship with architectural precision and elegant lines.
The new design adds a vertical look to the collection, and the result is pure, consistent and unmistakably Nordic. The simple fronts are made of Dinesen’s latest product innovation, Dinesen Layers. Hand-crafted by Garde Hvalsøe, they bring a light, natural expression to the design.
The experience and sensation of hand-crafted quality is all-pervasive, and every single detail of every layer of the design is carefully finished. The inspiration for the design by Baks Arkitekter came from the forest where this stunning residence is located. In contrast to many of Garde Hvalsøe's signature designs, Layer mimics the surrounding trees of the property. Showcasing the beautiful, textural grain through natural vertical lines of the wood, it cleverly reflects the forest’s skyward direction.
All superfluous details have been pared away – there are no plinths, grips or visible joints. Instead, the elements are shaped by a simple design expression that lends the kitchen its unique character. Combining beauty and functionality, the photo below shows the three different drawer heights available, offering ideal storage solutions.
