Today's round-up of design news starts with two new product launches from the Danish brand Vipp. Inspired by ancient, East Asian paper lantern traditions, the new Vipp Paper Lamp series fuses Asian design craft with cosy, subdued lighting of Scandinavian décor.
I have studied and drawn inspiration from the symbiosis between Danish and Japanese design, which pays homage to simple and durable design. The two cultures have long been the subject of mutual inspiration, where it is about simplicity in design and respect for nature. — Morten Bo Jensen, Chief Designer at Vipp. Every piece of paper is created through a hand-held process which adds a poetic dimension to the lampshades that each hold its own unique story and distinctive structure. Stretched over a metal grid held together by a top ring in dark, solid oak, the thin paper features vague textures creating a beautiful play of shadows through a warm diffusion of light. The series, which includes a pendant and floor lamp, will be available online and from stores at the end of September. |
A sculpture of comfort, the new Vipp665 pouf is a versatile addition to the Vipp furniture collection. With its geometric, six-piece construction in off-white Barnum upholstery, the pouf is a perfect footrest companion to Vipp’s Chimney sofa or Loft sofa, yet it is versatile enough to act as a stand-in for a spare seat or even an informal side table to put your tray on.
"Sculptural yet informal, the hexagon-shaped pouf holds linear detailing against round edges. The pouf is constructed of high resilience foam molded around a wooden frame offering a resilience through versatile use while helping to maintain the firm shape of the pouf for many years."— Morten Bo Jensen, Chief Designer, Vipp.
