For our home build we used black joinery, and couldn't be happier with the result. In fact, one of the features I love most is the large black framed windows in our upstairs space. It provides an amazing contrast with the white walls, and by adding black accents throughout, I achieved the monochrome look I love.
In older or renovated homes, every time I see the use of vintage-looking steel-framed doors and windows, it gets my heart racing. Sometimes referred to as casement windows, or French doors, they can be seen on the interior or exterior of some incredible homes I've come across. Here are some recent favourites.
These bedrooms are divine. As well being a statement feature, the doors provide a solution to space constraints and/or lack of light. Often seen in Scandinavian interiors, they are also perfectly suited to industrial style homes, as shown below.
The house above belongs to designer Marie von Lotzbeck and photographer Jacob Kirk and is located in Denmark. The steel framed doors, together with raw concrete floors and beautiful Scandinavian design pieces makes for a truly unique and inspiring home.

I actually featured the home above way back here, but discovered these new images recently. A factory conversion in Amsterdam, the steel-framed doors and windows look amazing alongside the building's original brickwork.
