Car Möbel | Interior Inspiration

When I stumbled upon the Car Möbel site late last year I thought Christmas had come early. Based in Germany, my excitement dropped a peg or two when I realised they only ship locally, however the product styling is so insanely good I figured it would be madness not to share it with you. If nothing else, these spaces will inspire you to white-wash your floors and walls!

The online store offers an extensive range of furniture and homeware not only from Germany but also well known brands from Scandinavia and The Netherlands, such as House Doctor, Nordal, TineK Home, Madam Stolz and Pip Studio. They also sell their own line of furniture which features in all of the images shown here.

I was immediately drawn to the storage section. A huge range of shelves and cabinets provide plenty of organisational inspiration. You may be able to find something similar to replicate the look or experiment with some DIY or even upcycling. It's amazing what a coat of white paint can do for an old piece of furniture.

I love the versatility of boxed shelving. They look great, can be moved around as you please and the different sizes allow you to store a range of books and objects. Perfect for your workspace, the ones shown here are filled with pretty folders and patterned boxes.

Aside from the desk, the chair is a main component of the workspace. A great way to introduce different texture such as wood or steel, not to mention a pop of bright colour, I love the different styles shown here. Industrial lamps, wire waste baskets, fun prints and desktop accessories add more layers of cool.

These hallways and living areas are so fresh and welcoming. I've always liked the idea of placing a low bench seat in the entrance way and how cute is the blackboard week planner above?

Having become a bit obsessed with rugs and pouffes of late, Car Möbel has really piqued my interest. As well as adding colour and texture, they make these spaces warm and inviting.

The bedrooms feature more beautiful furniture, calming colour pallets and a lovely range of bedlinen.

A mix of neutrals with just a splash of colour (love that rug) and a cosy corner chair works for me.

I love the muted colour pallet of this bedroom and that gorgeous star print bedding has completely won me over!

When Mikkel Adsbøl was introduced to the world of photography by his ninth grade teacher, he was immediately taken by both the technical and visual aspects. Prior to this he wanted to be a chef, so it seems fitting that he began his career as an apprentice for one of Denmark's best food photographers, Lars Ranek. From here he expanded into other areas including advertising, lifestyle, home design, travel and portrait photography. Mikkel says it's a privilege to be able to interpret and convey what he sees of the world through his lens. Looking over his incredible portfolio, I feel privileged being able to enjoy his beautiful work, and I know you will feel the same.

These photos are from Mikkel's Lifestyle portfolio. He finds this area of work exciting because "the challenge lies in creating rooms". I love how he describes the process: "Lifestyle is so much more than white walls and four-legged chairs. It is also a mood. A composition that has to strike a balance in a dedicated teamwork of stylists, craftspeople and designers to achieve the best possible result. Lifestyle is about creating moods that inspire, provoke and take things to a new place".

I'd love to gain (even some basic) photography skills so I find Mikkel's words both inspiring and daunting at the same time! So much talent, creativity and patience goes in to mastering the art of photographing interiors. I love the way Mikkel incorporates composition, colour and light, often using an over exposed technique to create striking contrasts.

Interior Styling | Tree Stumps

I'm not sure if it's just me but I've started noticing more and more tree stumps used as furniture in the home and I've really taken a shine to them. Often seen in Scandi-style interiors, I love their natural simplicity and rustic quality. Cracks and imperfections add to their charm, and I like that no two are the same. They are ideal for use as low level tables or stools in living areas, bedrooms, and even bathrooms. Although I'd happily take just one, I can't help but want a group of them like in the image above. Greedy I know, but they look stunning, don't they? You can see more of this beautiful home over here

I found a fantastic DIY Tree Table post on marthastewart.com which gives instructions on how to create a smooth sealed surface by sanding and applying a coat of enamel paint. You could also go a step further and paint the outside of the stump. I love these examples below.

The home below, a recent discovery via French By Design, has some amazing features, one of which is a very cool personalised tree stump. I love how the inside has been painted neon orange, a colour which the owner Amélie has added in eyecatching bursts around the otherwise monochrome interior. Stencilled lettering on the outside of the stump adds further wow. Located in Carpentras, France, you can check out the full house tour here

It's a good idea to add furniture gliders to the bottom of the stumps to protect your floors. Alternatively you could add wheels for easy movement around the home.

Do you like any of these tree stumps? I'd love to know what you think. See you back here tomorrow!

Bob and Friends

I love being the bearer of good news, especially when it involves the opening of a fabulous furniture and homeware store in one of my favourite shopping precinctsBob and Friends have opened up on Auckland's Ponsonby Rd and I had the pleasure of popping in recently for a look around. As soon as I set foot inside the spacious store I was met with an eye catching array of designer wares including furniture, rugs, pouffes, art, lighting, ceramics, cushions... the list goes on!

Bob and Friends (the Bob stands for Best of British) owner Ron Redel is responsible for bringing world renowned UK-based SCP Furniture to our shores, in addition to boutique products sourced from around the world. With an extensive background in the London furniture industry, Ron is passionate about great design.

Having admired the String Shelving System for such a long time, I was really excited to see that the Scandinavian design classic is available exclusively through Bob and Friends.

More design goodness in-store...

I love everything from the Donna Wilson range, so thought I'd share a few of her gorgeous designs with you. You can see more here

I'm on the lookout for a dining table, stools and lighting right now. These would do nicely!

A true British design classic, the gorgeous Robin Day chairs have just arrived, including new designs such as the Pepperpot Stool. They come in a range of brights and are really affordable. I think the hard part will be deciding on which colours...

The store is located at 62 Ponsonby Rd and is open seven days. There is also a Bob and Friends 'store within a store' at Homage in Newmarket and you can shop online. Make sure you 'like' their Facebook page to stay up to date with new arrivals!

Images courtesy of Bob and Friends and here

In case you're wondering, the new Bob and Friends store was formerly home to the Endemic World pop up store I featured prior to Christmas. The NZ art prints store has now moved to a permanent location just downstairs. We're working together on something exciting, so keep a lookout on the blog later this week!

Homes to Inspire | LifeSpaceJourney

LifeSpaceJourney, formed by brothers Justin and Glen Lamont, is an Australian firm which fuses furniture design and property development. Based in Melbourne, the creative pair carry out projects that redefine spaces, creating seating, lighting, tables and household objects that combine form and function, with a touch of whimsy. Their creations, which could pass as works of art, and unique housing projects have been featured in many local and international design publications including Inside Out, Dwell and Grand Designs.

I've chosen one of their urban development projects to share with you today, Hardiman St. Discovered while sourcing images for the Tree Stump post I wrote earlier this week, I was captivated by every aspect of this home. Not only does it show how Justin and Glen have expertly fused the home's historical origins with new, modern living spaces, it also showcases many of their designs.

I love the typography, seen often in their work. The black and white interior has been given a golden touch with both the gold front door (how cool is that?) and downlights along the hallway....

Although the home has a fairly masculine vibe, I could definitely live here! Environmentally conscious, the brothers use reclaimed upcycled timber, alongside new raw material.

LifeSpaceJourney pieces from the seating, lighting, andtable ranges feature throughout the home. An all black kitchen is given a pop of colour by way of a yellow mixer...

On close inspection, the circular objects on the wall above the fireplace are actually logs, painted black. I love the apothecary jars lined up on the mantelpiece and the minimalist copper pendants, also by LIfeSpaceJourney, hanging in several rooms of the home.

Another pop of yellow in the bathroom above. The talented brothers also create their own artworks including paintings and sculpture. Take a look here.

Overall, I think it's the many and varied textural elements in this home which I find both fascinating and enticing. Cowhide, leather, wood, metals and glass all come together beautifully. I've also enjoyed looking through their Facebook page photos which include many cafe fitouts that they've done. I highly recommend you grab a cuppa and do the same, in addition to checking out their site

Discovering Australian photographer Chris Court was one of my online browsing highlights of last week. I saw via Mr Jason Grant that fashion label One Teaspoon had launched a home collection. True to their rock chic aesthetic that I love, the range includes leopard glass candles, patchwork denim throw cushions and skull candles. So striking are the images, taken by Chris Court showcasing the One Teaspoon Home range, I had to find out more.

Images via

When I clicked through to Chris's site I was met with an incredible series of interior photographs. It also just so happens that he is the brother of the renowned Australian stylist, shop owner and author Sibella Court. Talk about a talented family! Chris has photographed three books with Sibella: Etcetera, Nomad and Life of a Bowerbird. To say I was eager to share some of his work with you is an understatement so I sent Chris an email and he very kindly said yes! Phew!!

Chris has worked with many major food, lifestyle and interiors titles including Donna Hay, Gourmet Traveler, Martha Stewart, Harpers Bazaar, Vogue Living and Living Etc. It was hard to choose which photos to share, but I think these represent the diverse range of interiors Chris photographs, and how he beautifully captures each space in natural light, with clarity and attention to detail.

Thanks Chris!  All images via http://chriscourt.com

Blog Love | Nordic Leaves

When I came across Nordic Leaves a couple of weeks back I felt like I'd struck gold. The beautiful interior design blog is written by Edina Sæther whose style and design aesthetic immediately struck a chord with me. As with many of the bloggers I write about here, Edina shares her own photography and home along with other inspiring design, art, fashion and foodie finds. I would say that her mission to make her blog "a magical place for dreams and inspiration" has definitely been accomplished!

Edina's signature Nordic style is evident throughout her stunning home and I've picked out some of my favourite areas to show you. In her office she favours black and white, splashes of colour (particularly yellow which she says she never tires of) and copper or brass. Although Edina is a self-confessed minimalist at heart, she likes having her favourite things on display which is why the String Shelving System works so well. Accessories from Hay, a Stendig Calendar and Eames House Bird from Vitra (who she lovingly refers to as Mr Birdie) are just some of the gorgeous homewares I'm coveting right now.

In fact I'm not kidding when I say that looking through Nordic Leaves is like looking at my own personal wishlist! The Etch candle holder by Tom Dixon is incredible. Available in brass, copper and silver, even just one would be lovely! They also make great pencil holders, don't you think?

More Tom Dixon magic with the Beat lights in the kitchen. I like how Edina mixes Ikea basics like the black picture frames with designer pieces like the Kartell Masters Chairs. There's a bit more colour here thanks to the gorgeous Smeg Fridge, fresh flowers, bright recipe books and a set of Pantone Mugs

Even Edina's baking and food styling is impeccable!

The living room is bathed in light. A mustard coloured cushion adds a nice contrast to the grey and white furniture. I love the Gubi Floor Lamp, Eames Rocker and homemade pouffe. If you are thinking of painting your floors white, you'll find some great advice from Edina who is somewhat of an expert after painting hers twice in less than two years! Take a look here

The entry way is another gorgeous spot where Edina has added her own personal touch by decorating the front door with Ferm Living wall decals. She also painted four Ikea boxes and mounted them to the wall (with the help of her hubby) providing a great place to display her treasures.

I feel like de-cluttering, painting my floors white and indulging in some retail therapy now. How about you? So much beautiful inspiration and the good news is Edina plans on taking more photos this year, so make sure you pop over to Nordic Leaves and follow along.

Interior Styling | DIY Metallics

As the metallic trend heats up, interior DIY experts are reaching for their spray paints, brushes and even sharpie pens, transforming tired old homewares into shimmery new objects of desire. Today I've rounded up some great examples that I've seen on the web.

Vases and candlesticks are perfect candidates for the job. Spray painting the entire surface works really well, as shown in the examples above by clever DIY'er Nina Holst of Stylizimo

For something a bit different, the mason jars above are super cute, or you could paint a simple detail, like the gold cross on the glass vase below. Found via the lovely blog Annixen,I love its simplicity.

Also via Annixen, the apple is one of my favourites while the lantern below, previously dull and bland, now looks stunning.

DIY queen Jennifer Hagler of A Merry Mishap has also worked her magic on a glass vase, this time with copper spray paint.

These black coppery feathers would look lovely hung above a bed.

This time Nina Holst of Stylizimo has combined her love of black, copper and crosses by creating an artwork using a black canvas and copper paint.

Everyday tins and bottles have been decorated to create these beautiful floral table arrangements.

1|2|3

The ceramics below now have a lovely modern shine thanks to the use of golden leaf. To see how it's done, check out the video here.

More than likely due to the fact that I have two sons, I have a bit of a soft spot for dinosaurs. Not just for the kids, these spray painted creatures are both charming and quirky displayed in the home office of Catherine Sheppard of The Life Styled.

These toystore animals via Heodeza have each been given a different look. For cute polka dots and geometric patterns use a Sharpie metallic permanent marker.

Furniture could be given a bit of the DIY metallic treatment too. I pinned this image the other day and thought it would look great spray painted gold or copper. Any of these ideas take your fancy?

On a side note just before I go, I'm really honoured to have been given the title of Blog of the Month over at We Heart Home! You can check out my interview here.

Koskela

I can't remember precisely where I first heard about the Australian furniture company Koskela as it was quite some time ago but they certainly made a lasting impression, not to mention shooting to the top of my 'places to visit' list when I get the chance to go to Sydney again. In fact it was my Sydney-based cousin Sarah mentioning how amazing her visit to Koskela was on the weekend that prompted me to have another look at their website, where I got stuck for quite some time! New projects, an awesome blog and workshops on offer, there's just so much goodness, it's about time I shared some of it with you!

Founded by Russel Koskela and Sasha Titchkosky, Koskela produces Australian-made furniture that is beautiful, functional and durable. Inspired by their lives and surroundings, they use environmentally friendly recycled timbers to create stunning tables and benches. Their sofas are designed using a unique lightweight system with handles for ease of movement, perfect for casual yet stylish living. Also on offer are an amazing range of stools, chairs, rugs and lighting alongside a carefully curated selection of Australian made gifts and accessories.

The Koskela showroom at Roseberry is a huge industrial space complete with the Kitchen by Mike cafe shown below and Megan Morton's School. When I do go to Sydney, I am definitely booking in for one of her styling classes! The massive retail space also houses many sought after local brands such as Castle, Bonnie and Neil, Planet Luxe, Greg Hatton and bedlinen by Kate Banazi

Koskela have worked on many exciting projects in Australia over the last decade, providing fitouts for large scale offices, universities and restaurants including customised products developed with interior design clients. When it comes to their work in private residents the results are outstanding, so I thought I'd share one with you today which completely took my breath away.

Designed by Architecture Saville Isaacs, the Avoca Beach House has a mostly neutral interior with exquisite natural materials and pops of yellow. For this project, Koskela supplied Highgate and Quadrant Soft Sofas, Mud Licht, Bamboo Cloche and Bye Bye Birdy pendants, and the Twiggy Coat stand. See their full range of products here

The Koskela showroom is situated at 1/85 Dunning Ave, Roseberry. The gallery space is often used to exhibit the work of local artists such as Rachel Castle, as a venue for pop up shops like Tales of the Fallen while Kitchen by Mike provides an amazing venue for events. Overall Koskela is a wondrous hive of creativity, retail and culinary delights! Who's coming to Sydney with me?

Home Build | Kitchen Inspiration

$

With the build of our new home in full swing, I've decided to start a series centred around this exciting yet slightly daunting project! Focusing specifically on the interiors side of things, I figure there's no better way to kick off than with the kitchen. Like most Mums I spend loads of time here preparing meals and keeping hungry little tummies full! It's a cliche, but kitchens are the heart of the home and that ultimately is what we are striving for. Our kitchen, dining and living spaces are going to be open plan, and while the kitchen is not huge, the island (which was a must) is fairly long. I know the kids are going to love having a breakfast bar and I'm going to love spending time there entertaining friends and family.

I'm sure it will come as no surprise that the colour palette we've chosen is monochrome. With my love of Scandinavian design and a yearning for pared-back simplicity, I like the idea of keeping the canvas white and adding colour and texture through furnishings and homewares. I've always wanted pale wooden flooring so that's what we've chosen for this area of the home. I'm completely obsessed with marble so that's also at the top of the wishlist.

Of course I'll be doing my best to achieve the elegant, stylish home I've always wanted within budget. Ahem, I know. Not easy! But I'd just like to say that if there is any area of a new build that needs a bit of extra dosh thrown at it, it should be the kitchen! Right? Who's with me on this? It also goes to explain why I'm pushing to get 'my' kitchen signed off before hubby goes crazy with the electrical plan! It really is such an important area of the home to get right, but I am realistic. While we want good quality cabinetry, benchtops and tapware, I'm all for mixing bargain finds with designer pieces when it comes to kitchenware and accessories. In fact I'm quite looking forward to the challenge!

Here are a few images that pinpoint what we're going for.

This kitchen was designed by Dina Broadhurst whose work I've previously featured on the blog here. This marble waterfall island (1) is pure inspiration! I love the narrow width of the bench. Sleek and elegant, I think it works especially well with marble which has such a timeless quality.

When it comes to the kitchen of a world-renowned food guru like Donna Hay, you know it's going to be good. The Donna Hay Studio kitchen, designed by Brian Hoy Design not only looks stunning, it has a great layout and top notch appliances. I've picked this one out because I love the marble splashback (1) and the stainless steel back benchtop (2). While we're considering both of these surfaces for our kitchen, we know for sure that the cabinetry will be all white with recessed/negative detailing i.e no handles (3).

To maximise storage, we've chosen to extend our cabinetry as high as possible (1). It also prevents the dreaded dust collection you get at the top of cabinets! I've already got my black and white striped rug from Let Liv(2) and we are installing pale wood flooring (3) although wider floor boards then these. Just so you know.

To finish off, here are ten things on my kitchen wishlist.

01 Oven mitt and potholder from Åhléns
02Kitchenaid Artisan Mixer
03Perforated Tolix Stool
04Marble Hay Tray via Stylizimo
05Lee Broom Crystal Lights from Bob & Friends
06Design Letters Cups by Arne Jacobsen
07Deer Teatowel by Angela McKay from Father Rabbit
08Herb Pot Trio by Sagaform
09 Marble benchtop, Prahran Residence by Wonder
10Nespresso Lattissima

Have any of you gone down the path of building? I'd love to hear your experiences. Or maybe you'd like to? Whether you're thinking about building or even renovating, I hope that by sharing my journey with you I inspire some of you out there to take the plunge and go for it.

Before I go I'd like to say congratulations to Erin Pickering, the winner of the Endemic World - Inaluxe Giveaway! Also a massive thank you to Endemic World for their generosity.

The last couple of Fridays I've curated moodboards for my Facebook page but I always like to share them on here to make sure everyone who's following gets inspired! Curated using images from my Pinterest boards, they always tie in nicely with my Picks and Peeks. Friday has rolled around again so let's celebrate with some gorgeous pins!

If you've got something exciting planned for tonight then this one is for you. The week I created this we were off to a friend's wedding so I was super excited and in the mood for a bit of fun and sparkle! Who doesn't love a bit of gold right now?

Much like last Friday I'm looking forward to unwinding with some rest and relaxation tonight. If you're doing the same, then this grey and white moodboard should inspire some peace and tranquillity.

I curated this moodboard earlier in the week to showcase the beautiful blush tones that are so hot right now.

I'm very pleased to introduce you to today's Pinterest pick, Summer Robertson. Summer lives in Portland, Oregon and is the co-founder of two beautiful online furniture and homeware stores House & Hold and Fawn & Forest. And that's in addition to being a Mum of three! I'm not sure how she finds time for Pinterest but I'm so glad she does!

Summer has an amazing eye for design and interiors. Her beautifully arranged boards are characterised by a mostly monochrome palette, lots of grey tones and warm natural materials. In addition to boards that are categorised into areas of the home, Summer has some more unique boards likeFire (scrumptious fireplaces)Utility (a collection of stunning kitchenware) and 'Skin which as the name suggests, features cosy animal skins for the floor or chair. For lovers of Scandi-style interiors Summer's boards will most certainly whet your appetite, and speaking of appetite her food and beverage boards are amazing. I highly recommend checking out Treats and my personal fave Coffee!

Here are a few of Summer's recent pins that I'm sure you'll love.

I had the pleasure of attending an event at BLOC last week, to celebrate its new look and the arrival of beautiful furniture, homeware and accessories store Douglas + Bec. Situated in the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden, BLOC encompasses a range of design-focused brands and people, who collaborate to create an exciting and interactive shopping experience. If you are looking for a diverse range of quality design products all under one roof, BLOC delivers. Big time!

Gorgeous BLOC notebooks and pencils were given to guests along with lovely wine from Jules Taylor Wines.

With so much to offer, it's little surprise that I've already featured BLOC twice before, first with Collected by LeeAnn Yare and not long after with Bo Concept. Both have undergone some exciting changes within the BLOC retail space. Collected on level two has expanded to allow more room for LeeAnn's ever-growing collection of gorgeous, colourful homewares while the addition of a third floor is now home to Bo Concept's Danish designed furniture and accessories, alongside Geneva's stylish sound systems.

The view from Collected, looking across the second floor.

This has made way for the new Citta Design flagship store on the ground floor. I have to say, after attending their Londontown launch recently it was a real joy getting to experience the entire new range spread out and in such chic surroundings!

Citta Design's fab new space on the ground floor.

Seeing the arrival of Douglas + Bec was certainly a highlight of the evening. The store comprises a carefully curated selection of pieces by both local and international designers and is simply divine. The range includes Made by Douglas and Bec featuring founder Rebecca Snelling's own stunning designs, handcrafted by her father Douglas Snelling. Last year they collaborated on a collection with iconic NZ fashion designer Kate Sylvester. It is no exaggeration to say it was a match made in heaven. Combining a palette of soft blush and powder blue with pale oak, polished brass and buttery leather, the range which includes lighting, occasional furniture and homewares is exquisite.

The beautiful new Douglas + Bec at BLOC.

WORLD Beauty, Pencil Boutique and Cool Food Cafe are also part of the wonderful world of BLOC. For more details including shop hours, pop over to BLOC and make sure you schedule in a visit soon!

Interior Styling | Leather Love

One of my lovelyFacebook followers got in touch last week to ask about a leather chair I had pinned and it threw me for a moment! It wasn't that I couldn't remember pinning a leather chair, it was that I pin so many! I've always been drawn to leather in interiors. I love the look, texture and durability. I have yet to acquire any leather furniture, but I hope to one day. In the meantime I might have to settle on a cushion or a beautiful pouffe or two!

1| 2

The chair in question was actually the Paulistino Chair featured in image #2 of this Pinterest collage from Friday's post. A true design classic, I think the beauty of this armchair lies in its deceptively simple design.

Designed in 1957 by Brazilian designer Paulo Mendes da Rocha for the Athletic Club in São Paulo, it consists of a single bent piece of steel with a canvas or in this case, leather cover. Almost an entire hide is used, gaining depth and luster as it ages. Known for its visual lightness and exceptional comfort, the sling can also be adjusted up or down the steel frame for upright or relaxed sitting positions. Karine Kong of Bodie and Fou is a huge fan and has them in several colours, shown here in her gorgeous London home.

If I could choose a piece of leather furniture I think I'd have a hard time deciding between black, tan or dark brown as I love them all. This leather butterfly chair looks particularly stylish in tan...

While the Barcelona chairs, shown here in an amazing Stockholm apartmentlook great as a set of two, in black...

I've been coveting a leather Chesterfield sofa for as long as I can remember. I often see great examples on the blog Etxekodeco...

White walls and a statement black leather sofa provide the perfect starting point for black and white living room styling by Finnish blogger Lily of Likainen Parketti...

I love this dark brown leather, offset by white roses and a black and white wall-hanging from Pony Rider. The gorgeous home belongs to Annabelle Kerslake, editor of Fête magazine. See more over at Home Life.

Another image from Karine's London home, showcasing her incredible Robin Day leather sofa from Habitat...

This combo of tan leather, gold and deep turquoise was too good not to share...

As is stylist Megan Morton's lovely worn leather chaise...

I could keep going on and on, but I'd better let you go! I'd love to know your thoughts on leather furniture. Are any of these calling out to you?

Esé Studio Architects in Athens, Greece is a partnership that was formed in 2011 between good friends Sotos Mallas and Aaron Ritenour. Aaron is an award winning architect whose work has been published in several top publications while Sotos, an interior architect passionate about architecture, design and fashion is known for his cutting edge work. Their combined talents have resulted in some incredible collaborations so far, one of which is the Musique Cafe in Athens.

What immediately struck me about the restaurant interior was its cool, industrial style. Black and grey chequered flooring, a mix of classic chairs and rustic wood tables all come together to create a very warm and inviting atmosphere. I especially love the pendant lights and stacked wood pallets.

Here are a few examples of their residential work. Predominantly modern with clean lines, I love the neutral colour pallets and combination of concrete and wood. Furnished with unique touches and beautiful design pieces, there's a definite sense of luxury. I certainly wouldn't mind living in such surroundings!

In the Faliro Loft I love both the lamp in the dining area and the minimalist ceiling lights, also seen in the bedroom. The bathroom's dark and moody vibe is given a lift with patterned floor tiles and an adjacent outdoor area that is bathed in light.

The architectural wood detailing in the Lycabettus Penthouse is remarkable. I love the combination in the living area: beautiful pale floorboards, white boards on the ceiling and very narrow walnut panelling on the wall. Concrete introduced in the dining area adds further intrigue, while the bedroom has a distinctive Japanese style. I'm in awe!

Providing a stunning contrast to the pale wood flooring, the Kolonaki Townhousefeatures a beautiful concrete fireplace. I just want to reach out and touch that lovely pouffe!

The Thissio Apartment is all white with polished concrete floors. The dining area features a striking round rug, perfect for the Tulip table and Eames chairs

I recently came across this image via Behance and was captivated by the cool industrial styling. I promptly pinned it to my bedroom board and it got a lot of repins. I also posted it to my Facebook page where it got lots of likes, comments and shares. Well, I have a confession to make. This is actually a 3D image, designed by freelance 3D artist Velizar Dimitrov from Bulgaria. Its 'realness' is remarkable, don't you think?

I was going to fess up on Facebook but thought I'd see if anyone picked up on it first. Unsurprisingly no one did. Isn't it amazing what be can done with 3D rendering software these days? If it's in the hands of some very talented artists of course. Veliza specialises in architecture, interior design and furniture design. Here are a couple more examples of his work.

Since then I've started seeing more 3D interior images around the web. I came across an amazing series via Emmas Designblogg, featuring a property development project by Swedish firm Oscar Properties. Nybrogatan 57 will consist of luxury serviced apartments and judging by the artist's impression, the interiors are going to be stunning.

The kitchen above is so beautiful with oak flooring and cabinetry, a marble benchtop and gold accents.

My other favourite image is the bedroom above. Spacious with a calm, neutral palette the gallery shelf above the bed is a lovely feature. The light and texture really amaze me. Small details bring the image to life and give it a lived-in feel.

Interior designer Katty Schiebeck whose work I love teamed up with 3D artist Jesus Boyero to produce these amazing images, found via Katty'sblogSomewhere I Would Like to Live. A minimalist penthouse in Barcelona, Katty has taken inspiration from both mid-century and nordic styles. A winning combination of white, wood and leather, I really would like to live here!

When we started building my husband was really excited to have discovered a (very basic) 3D program which he downloaded and used for our house plans. I was pretty impressed with it and I could definitely get a better sense of the layout and spaces. Now I can't help but think how cool it would be to have one of these super-talented artists create detailed, lifelike 3D images for us. Even though it still has a futuristic feel to me, I'm sure one day it will be the norm and regardless of being real or not, these images still provide plenty of inspiration, don't you think?

In A Designer Home | Online Store

Like many busy people I frequently turn to online shopping for ideas and inspiration, especially when it comes to home interiors. Often it's only window shopping (of the virtual kind) as many of the online stores that I love are far away making shipping a barrier. So when I hear of one that's closer to home, it's a good day. When it's one that has an incredible range of products, even better. Let me introduce you to In A Designer Home (Idh), the gorgeous Australian online store founded by Jamee Huntington....

When Sydney-siderJamee and I crossed paths recently I was eager to check out her store and straight away she had me at Muuto. By far one of my fave designers, this Scandinavian brand sets a benchmark for me. If I see them, I'm in! Once I'd established that Idh ship outside of Australia and that they have the Oak Muuto 'The Dots' that I want so badly in stock (at a very good price, I might add) I was ready to get out my credit card. Which I may now need to hide, judging by all that's on offer!

Products from the Muuto range, available from Idh

What's unique about Idh is Jamee's vision to bring together both existing and established designers as well as those who aren't so well known. Designers from Australia and around the world are represented with exclusive distribution agreements in place, providing accessibility to a wide range of stylish and innovative products including lighting, home accessories and furniture.

Artworks by Urban Road, available from Idh

The Idh site is easy to navigate allowing you to browse by product or designer. One of my fave features is Meet the Designers where you can learn more about the people behind the brands and their inspiring stories. I've discovered some amazing new designers thanks to Idh such as Blok, Sixhands, Chris Hardy, Blond and Robert Plumb. With more jumping on board all the time, I'll be checking in regularly. Take a look at my ten picks and I'm sure you'll be joining me.

To receive the Idh newsletter and to keep up to date with the latest products, make sure you sign up to become a member. You'll also receive members only specials as well as fantastic interior design & styling tips, inspirational design interviews and more. Right - now go grab your credit card. You know you want to!

Homes to Inspire | Stylish in Stockholm

I stumbled across this lovely home on the weekend via a newly discovered Swedish real estate site Lagerlings. I'm not sure if it was the white Scandi interiors, marble features or the chalkboard 'M' (for my name of course!) that grabbed me, but I was immediately captivated. Architecturally designed and renovated, this apartment is situated in Östermalm, Central Stockholm. The open plan layout and high ceilings create a wonderful sense of space and grandeur while large character windows contribute to its light and airy feel.

Distinctively Scandinavian, the herringbone-patterned parquet flooring in the kitchen, dining and living areas are stunning. A combination of clean lines, simple white cabinetry and Cararra marble make for one gorgeous kitchen, while the cute blackboard gives it a nice homely feel.

Oh, how I would love to own the beautiful dining table and wishbone chairs

Marble details continue throughout the home. Did you notice the marble tray on the dining table? Then there are the marble side tables in the living area (and master bedroom shown further down). This home also features a colour combo that I'm really into right now, muted shades of blush and mustard yellow, seen here in the artwork, cushions and ceramics.

There are some fabulous prints and artworks on display including a lovely gallery wall in the living area above and along the hallway below.

Pale wooden floors run the length of the hallway and into the master bedroom which is big enough for a workspace.

More marble in the bathroom provides a lovely sense of continuity. The recessed shelf provides a cute nook for flowers, quirky objects and a framed poster featuring one of my favourite quotes.

Sadly this home has already been snapped up, not that we're moving to Sweden anytime soon, but it's nice to dream isn't it?

Interior Styling | Bedside Tables

The bedside zone is an important one. Serving as a place to put things like books and reading glasses, it should also compliment the room's decor. I'm currently trying to decide on both bedside tables and lamps for the master bedroom of our new home. Today I thought I'd start with beside tables by showing you my shortlist of ideas.

The Kartell Componibili Module is a strong contender. I've admired this design classic for a long time and when I showed my husband and got a positive response it further confirmed that it would be a great choice. Even though I like the look of mismatched bedside furniture, this unit is so cool it seems only fair that we get one each, don't you think?

Gorgeous Moroccan styling here with a lovely leather pouffe as a sidetable...

For a sleek modern look, beds with built-in headboards and night stands are a great option...

Ladder shelves are both functional and stylish, providing lots of space for books, mags and even plants. I think however we'll have to hold off on this for a while, at least until our youngest son has passed the 'climbing everything' phase. I love this DIY ladder created by Jennifer Hagler from A Merry Mishap.

This charming vintage step ladder is a good height...

Here's a great example of placing different furniture on either side of the bed, with a ladder on one side and a simple stool on the other...

An occasional chair as beautiful as this one will most certainly do the trick...

Tree stumps make great bedside tables, either on their own...

or grouped together...
