It's been a very busy and exciting time for luxurious home and beauty brand Curio Noir. Not only have they unveiled CN Absolute Parfum, a range of exquisite handmade perfumes, they have also opened the doors to their flagship store on Auckland's Ponsonby Rd. Tiffany Jeans, Curio Noir’s Creator has collaborated with award-winning Interior Architect Rufus Knight and a handful of artisans to create a space that is truly unique and intimate. Everything within and adorning the shop is handcrafted. “Working with Rufus has been incredible,” says Tiffany Jeans. “He’s listened and understood everything perfectly, translating my world of Curio Noir into reality. I’m so excited to share it with the world.”

Having had the pleasure of visiting the store recently, I was captivated by the attention to detail. A true reflection of the Curio Noir brand, every element from the store frontage right through to the printed wax paper that each Curio is wrapped within, has been carefully considered. The sensory experience began as soon as I stepped inside the dimly lit space. The handmade ox-blood velvet drapes and dark chocolate plastered walls which have been layered and sanded back create a sense of old. Custom cabinetmaker Grant Bailey has produced a large bespoke walnut wall unit with brass backing for the Curio Noir pieces to be displayed, and literally ‘glow‘ on. From our first meeting several years ago, I gained an insight into Tiffany's creative direction and how her strong Maori heritage plays a special part in the process. I love the way she has incorporated this into the design, firstly with the counter top, also made by Grant Bailey, which has been hand-carved by Tiffany's cousin, resulting in an incredible textured surface. In addition, Tiffany's uncle hand carved the bone hardware throughout the shop. My heart also skipped a beat when I spied the stunning Pierre Jeanneret chairs and Serge Mouille pendants lights!
The new perfumery line is currently made up of four unisex fragrances, made from the finest notes and mixed by French perfumers in Grasse, France. As Tiffany took me through each one, I was not only captivated by the incredible scents, I was interested to learn about the process. She says “CN Absolute Parfum was created not only from my love for scent but also as a response to a number of customers who asked to have our candle scents made in to wearable perfumes. Some scents have been years in the making – they have evolved as I have learnt more about certain notes and with my life changes." Planning on adding more in coming years, the current fragrances include Opia, Diaphanous, Tobacco Night and Dark Bouquet and are sold in either a 5ml petite French perfume bottle, or for quantities thirty mills or larger, the customer can choose a beautiful bespoke, hand-blown glass bottle made in collaboration with Monmouth Glass Studio. Very much in fitting with Curio Noir aesthetic, these unique bottles are truly exquisite.
