Based in Melbourne, Studio Moore works within two creative disciplines of Interior Architecture and photographic Styling. Established in 2008 by Andrea Moore, who has worked with some of the most highly regarded architecture practices in Australia, the studio takes a holistic approach to architecture, creating intelligent spatial design solutions that enhance the everyday experience of the inhabitant. If you are one of my regular readers who checks in daily, you will know that this philosophy is one that I greatly admire. I've picked out some of my favourite projects from the Studio Moore portfolio to share with you.

Studio Apartment styling, photographed by Eve Wilson for The Design Files

Andrea's small yet beautifully styled apartment in South Yarra features a fresh, Scandi vibe. I love the mix of textural elements including warm wood and natural greenery.

I'm loving these incredible textures against a warm, grey backdrop.

'One space, two ways' styled for Share Design / Shareen Joel Design photographed by Eve Wilson

A clean and elegant home, it's hard to choose a favourite from the two-way styling of the stunning fireplace.

Loft design and styling, photographed by Lachlan Moore

White and bright, the mix of white painted bricks, concrete floors and warm wood is a winner in this loft office space.

Courtyard House Design, photographed by Lachlan Moore

An incredible fusion between old and new, this design project was shortlisted for two awards in 2102, and it's easy to see why.

Homes to Inspire | Portugese Residence

I'm giving myself a little pat on the back today for managing to post every day this week. School holidays are a lot of fun but always such a juggle. My husband is on leave today so I have been catching up on some emails, squeezing in a meeting or two and gaining back some sanity! While he's at the park with the kids I'm stopping by to share something a little different that I stumbled across this morning.

Casa na Rua de São Mamede ao Caldas is a private residence designed by Aires Mateus Arquitectos. Located in Lisbon, Portugal the bright white interior and unique art collection caught me eye. Because I favour clean lines, the curvature of the walls are a step away from my usual aesthetic, but the style of architecture reminds me of the beautiful villa we rented in Tuscany many years ago. In particular the contrast and texture of the concrete against the clean, white palette. I also LOVE the oversized swinging door that leads out to a beautiful big courtyard.

Fantastic Sunday

If you're reading this, you are probably wondering why I am posting today given that it Sunday and all. The kids went to stay at their Nana's last night and the (much needed catch up) 12 hour sleep I had is definitely a factor. It's amazing what a good night's sleep can do for the motivation levels. Either that or I'm anticipating missing a post next week with it being school holidays, and have other posts booked in for Monday and Tuesday. More than anything though, it's that I came across this gorgeous home on Fantastic Frank and I just have to share.

The light-filled home has a pink theme throughout that is ever so pretty. I especially love the beautiful vintage armchair which has been brought back to life by the super talented Mimmistaaf who styled the shoot. The stunning Pink Stairs artwork is by Annaleena

Styling by Mimmistaaf and photography by Joakim Johansson

Unable to resist a well-styled shelf, the bathroom and bedroom shelves offer lots of inspiration. The Steel Stand Clock in nude by Norm Architects and the Shadow Play Tealight in cool grey by Falke Svatun, both by Menu are current favourites.

If you are looking to inject some wow into your bathrooms, look no further than Ziporah Lifestyle. What began as one simple idea: “to create luxurious items that we wish existed”, Melbourne-based Carla Williams and Roanne Innes commenced their journey to achieve exactly that. With a focus on innovation and experimentation, along with being fearless in everything they make, they resulting Ziporah Lifestyle designs are striking, unique and deeply indulgent.

One look at their incredible new Novus Luxuria Collection and you will see for yourself. Inspired by the use of metal for decorative effect throughout history - from the ancient Roman Gods right through to today’s high fashion and architectural interpretations - Ziporah Lifestyle have incorporated a uniquely woven absorbent modal metallic thread into each bath towel and sparkling Lurex™ into their stunning bath rugs.

Lustrous and soft, the metallic collection features bold geometric designs and beautiful colours, two elements that will always remain their brand's signature. Using the highest quality materials and carefully select artisan manufacturers from around the world to create them, Ziporah Lifestyle are all about that touch of opulence that elevates the everyday.

Styling by Heather Nette King and photography by Derek Swalwell

Beautifully styled at the incredible Ocean House that I featured in this recent post, the collection is made up of four different designs including the vibrant sea inspired Serenus, and bold fiery Acer. The softer colours of Fidelis and the delicate Tenera feature muted colours which I personally love, while the unique bath rugs beautifully compliment the towels and add further luxury.

Exclusive to Scandi specialists Urbaani Homewares, Danish design brand Lucie Kaas is now available in Australia and New Zealand. Responsible for the re-launch of a selection of the most popular Danish and Scandinavian objects from the 50s, 60s and 70s, the gorgeous range of Lucie Kaas designer wooden animals provide a playful way of introducing natural elements to a room. The perfect addition to a light and white interior, I've styled our two new wooden darlings, the Elephant and Sparrow on our living room String shelf.

These charming little creatures are part of a wooden series from Gunnar Flørning- the man behind many of the biggest Danish design successes in history. Made from smoked oak materials, the focus is on simple, clean lines with particular attention to detail, craftsmanship and use of natural materials. In addition to the Sparrow and Elephant, the range includes a Duck, Rabbit or Pelican, all of which are delightful and come in a range of sizes.

Styling and photography by Michelle Halford for TDC

Of course the versatile little animals also look adorable in kids spaces. Even before I had opened the boxes Marlow was asking if he could have a play, so I snapped a few cute pics of him in action.

Penney + Bennett | New Wool Blanket

It's always a pleasure working with New Zealand designers Penney + Bennett. Their products never fail to impress and their latest, a stunning wool blanket is no exception. Made locally from 100% NZ wool, they have arrived just in time for winter. As with all of their designs, talented founders Loren Marks and Sarah Carson have combined fine art practices with aesthetically simple design and incredible attention to detail. Utilising their beautiful Emperor print which is one of my favourites in their cushion and print collections, I was excited to see how well it has translated to the wool blanket, in a timeless monochrome palette.

Owen Architecture | Modern Monochrome

I first spotted this home some time ago on the Instagram feed of photographer Toby Scott and thought 'wow'. The work of Owen Architecture, an award winning practise in Brisbane, Wooloowin House drew me in with its unique contemporary feel, clean monochrome palette and edgy mix of concrete and wood. Hard to believe it was once an old weatherboard cottage!

Since then, I spotted it over at Est where I was interested to find out a little more about both the project and firms founder Paul Owen. Rather than asking clients to prescribe their wish list, he asks them to impart their stories as a way of using the design process to explore the unknown. The owners of this home, a newly married couple who were planning on starting a family, wanted more space and a greater connection with the backyard. The resulting design incorporated a newly added ground floor level with a dressing room, bathroom, home office and living areas that all flow out to the garden. Key features all of which I love, include polished concrete floors, painted exposed beams and a vertical timber screening painted in charcoal, designed to provide shade from the glare of the harsh western summer sun. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, a kitchen and dining area, along with an enclosed veranda painted in white.

Photography by Toby Scott

The understated interior is warmed up with wood accents, textural elements and plenty of natural greenery. I particularly love the simple hanging pendants. Artfully looped, they provide versatility while accentuating those incredible ceiling beams. A pretty inspiring way to ease into the working week don't you think?

Happy Monday!

Black Kitchens | Six Picks

I recently visited a friend who is renovating, and seeing her kitchen in progress inspired today's post. Located in a beautiful big villa with high studs, wooden floorboards, and freshly painted white walls, the kitchen has been given new life with expansive black cabinetry, and it looks amazing. Visually striking, the black finish also creates a beautifully sleek and timeless look. Since then she has installed stainless steel benchtops and a marble tiled splashback. I can't wait to see an update! A classic combination, the addition of marble softens the overall look of black and stainless steel, while adding further texture.

I couldn't do a black themed kitchen post without including one of the incredible designs by Danish brand Vipp. Their signature powder-coated black workbenches and narrow (4mm) stainless steel bench tops provide timeless functionality and an industrial edge.

Warm wood goes hand in hand with black kitchens. Wooden stools are a great choice for an island, while smaller accessories such as cutting boards and trays also work well. Pop in a few metallics for added texture and warmth. I love the brass touches in the kitchen below, including the tap mixer, glasses tray and pendant light.

Here are a couple more favourites. The first is featured in the Monochrome Home book that I'm currently reading, but you can also see more here. The second is by Danish kitchen specialists Kivk

Today I discovered Cafeine.be, a Belgium-based architecture and interior photography company founded by Thomas De Bruynen. I have since spent the better half of the morning looking through both their inspiring portfolio of work, and many of the architectural firms that they work with. As is often the way I now have a ridiculous amount of tabs open and my mind is buzzing. Getting back on track for today's post, I've selected a few incredible shoots by Cafeine.be to share with you. They all have beautiful lighting, textural elements and amazing contrasts.

As someone who spends a lot of time behind a camera, intent on creating beautiful interior imagery, I'm constantly learning and working on improving my skills. I've learnt to focus on proportions, composition and angles, using my eye for what will work well in a frame (for the blog and social media), while at the same trying to capture both the interior styling and flow of the space. It's not easy, but seeing this calibre of work fuels my passion and I want to keep learning and improving.

Helleflou | Danske Mode & Textil

It's one thing to strive for a classic, understated home filled with enviable Danish design, but imagine going to work and being surrounded by such beauty? For those who are based at the headquarters of Dansk Mode & Textil, this is their daily reality. The offices, located inside a neo-classic mansion built in 1835 were designed by Copenhagen studio HelleFlou. Established in 2011 by architect and designer Helle Flou, the studio's focus is on creating functional interiors that tell an interesting story. Their resulting spaces are not only beautiful, but also timeless and meaningful.

The predominantly white interior is enhanced with pale wood and a pretty palette of soft greys and pinks. I love the subtle contrast of gold accents which can be seen on the doors, light fixtures and those incredible original wall panels. An assortment of Modern Danish furniture gives each space a refined elegant feel, while the overall design dutifully respects the history of the building. A truly gorgeous blending of old and new wouldn't you agree?

In addition to these offices and other corporate projects, Helleflou have worked on a number of danish homes, hotels and restaurants. Take a look here

We may only be halfway through winter, but as Monica Palmer of Slightly Garden Obsessed says, now is the time to start planning for summer. Our back yard landscaping is going to be a long-term work in progress, but if I could list the help of anyone, it would be Monica. Over many years in the business she has collaborated on multiple award-winning garden displays, written for lifestyle magazines, designed challenging and rewarding high-end residential and display home projects at an LA firm and, most recently in November 2014, opened the {virtual} doors to her own garden design studio in Perth. These stunning poolside images are from her impressive portfolio.

Kanuka Collective | Solstice Collection

Ever since featuring their debut home ware range last year, NZ brand Kanuka Collective have been firmly cemented in my mind as one to watch. Hearing of their new Winter 2015 Solstice Collection, I felt the familiar buzz of excitement at seeing their stunning new range of cushions. Designed with the colder months in mind, co-founder Ryan MacPherson, who I interviewed last year, says they have evolved from the palm print into something suitably sophisticated. "We've really focused on textures - natural (real) cork, leather, wool and linen".  Made here in NZ, using the finest quality materials hand sourced from all over the world, the products are beautifully crafted, with incredible attention to detail, including the Kanuka signature gold foiled tag.

With the gorgeous Waitakere rainforest as both the location and inspiration behind Kanuka, the incredible Brake House in Titirangi, designed by Sang Architects in 1977 provides the perfect backdrop to showcase the new collection.

In addition to cushions, there are exquisite wool and cashmere throws, a leather butterfly chair and a range of scented soy candles.

Such incredible textures and lush materials. I would happily place just one of the cushions on a sofa, chair or bed to add some wow, but I love that they all compliment one another. As for those cashmere throws. Amazing!

TDC x BoConcept | Part I

Some of you will have seen my post on Instagram yesterday, announcing a very exciting project with Danish Design company BoConcept. Our current living room set up shown below is about to undergo a transformation with a brand new sofa, and over the next four weeks I'm going to document the journey here on TDC.

Styling and photography by Michelle Halford for TDC

Choosing a new sofa is a big decision, with many important factors to consider. What I love about working with BoConcept, is that in addition to offering an extensive range of stunning furniture, they help you get the most out of your space. They create not only great design icons, but furniture you can customise to fit your exact needs. I love flicking through the latest BoConcept catalogue for ideas and inspiration and I'm a regular visitor to the store where I'm always met with friendly, helpful service. I couldn't wait to get started on the selection process, and with camera in hand I happily went through the paces of looking, touching and testing out each of the sofas in the beautiful Auckland BoConcept store, located inside the Bloc Retail space.

Having had a two-piece sofa set for some time, I'm keen to explore an alternative option, one that offers versatility and a significant change to our current configuration. The Carmo sofa is one that I kept coming back to, and I'm sure you'll see why. Contemporary Danish design at its best, I was immediately drawn to the clean lines and modular style. I also love the distinctive shape and fine detailing with the piping on the edges.

As soon as I sat down I noticed an exceptional level of comfort, enhanced by the addition of extra padding on the armrests. Imagining how great it would look in our living room, I can also envisage hours of enjoyment sitting and relaxing, and hanging out with family and friends.

The Carmo certainly ticks all the boxes, presenting so many possibilities and combinations. While this may be a daunting prospect, you can rest easy at BoConcept, knowing that the highly skilled staff are there to listen to your needs and offer complete guidance. They can advise you in the store or come to you home, offering visually different solutions to help make your dreams come true. I will go in to more detail regarding this part of the process next week.

First up, I need to choose the fabric and colour!

Photography by Michelle Halford for TDC

There really are no limits in terms of colours and materials. The luxe felt and leathers really appeal, and while I do love the pale grey colour of the Carmo sofa on display in store, I want to embrace change and choose something new. Carrying on with the next step of the design process next week, I'll be taking some fabric samples home to get a feel for them in our space.

The new summer 15/16 collection from Kate & Kate is here! The Great Escape will be showcased for the first time at Life Instyle Melbourne tomorrow, and I am thrilled to have a sneak peek to share with you today.

Described by the talented sister-in-law duo as as "by far our most exciting - and most adventurous - season to date", the collection, which includes beautiful new cotton blankets and linen throws, introduces a new range of stunning hand screen-printed linen cushions with custom feather inserts, as well as gorgeous linen napkins. Plush bath sheets and hand towels together with both kids and adult beach towels complete the amazing new lineup of Kate & Kate goodness.

Featuring a mix of clean lines, bold shapes and fun graphics, I love that the colour palette includes soft tones, bright colours as well as simple monochromes. While I favour the more neutral colours for home, I'm all for colourful and vibrant beach towels. The Uniform Adult Beach Towel is definitely calling out to me. Incredibly soft and absorbent, all the new towels are generous in size and can be used in the bathroom, at the pool or down at the beach. Roll on summer!

Styling by Megan Morton and photographed by Sam McAdam

Knowing first-hand the level of quality and attention to detail that goes into every Kate & Kate product, my heart is a flutter at seeing this extensive new range. I wish I were heading to Life Instyle to get up close and personal. If you're lucky enough to be in Melbourne, make sure you pop along for a look between July 30th and August 2nd.

The Great Escape is also now available for pre-order from the Kate & Kate webshop.

Having started working on this post at the beginning of the week, I've been adding new finds each day as they land in my inbox, or catch my eye on the web. The result is a varied but exciting mix, perfect inspo (and perhaps some retail therapy) for the weekend ahead!

First up is the gorgeous new photographic art from Kristina Dam Studio, exclusively launched at THE POSTER CLUB. Following on form her stunning Botanic Collection from last year, the new series is called ‘Inside’, and consists of six new posters, created from pictures taken in a 24 room neo-baroque house in Copenhagen. Once again teaming up with talented Copenhagen-based photographer Tuala Hjarnø, Kristina says she searched a long time for the perfect house. "I hope and believe that the unique mood and many details will shine through and be well received". Looking at this beautiful imagery, I have no doubt they will. The  soft palette and detailing of the rooms and windows is exquisite.

Tine K Home has released their new Autumn/Winter 2015 Collection, MOON. Brimming with beautiful homewares, the styling never fails to inspire.

Closer to home, I received news of an exciting collaboration between award winning chef Ben Bayly and renowned New Zealand potter Peter Collis. Combining their enormous talents, they have produced a beautiful range of artisan tableware. Handmade and used in both The Grove and Baduzzi restaurants where Bayly is executive chef, the range of white, blue and black stoneware has been featured on MasterChef which premiered this week, and will be sold in Stevens stores NZ-wide.

Artesania De Galicia is a beautiful new ceramics range available exclusively in NZ from Auckland store Tessuti. Not only are they functional, everyday pieces, they are artworks that have an incredible backstory. An autonomous region of north western Spain, Galicia has a long tradition of handmade crafts and a wide range of artisans still practising today. Theirs is an ancient history, and one that is steeped in the earth with the Druid religion still embraced widely in the area. This connection to the earth is reflected in the colours and textures seen in the wonderful ceramics from the region. Galician handmade ceramics are produced by co-ops of women of the area and each piece is signed by the maker.

The collection is available to purchase online and at the Herne Bay store

Moody Monday

It's actually far from a moody Monday. The sun is shining and I'm working on some really exciting projects right now, but these images I've curated are certainly giving off that vibe. Darker palettes, warm wood accents, water colour artworks are a few of the key elements that together, create depth and a dash of drama. While it's tempting to get out the dark paint or replace the floorboards with a dark wood, you can create the same effect by adding a few accents here or there, although I highly recommend carrying the theme throughout your home, as has been done beautifully in this first example.

Photography by Suvi Kesäläinen

The 'Blur' print by Esther de Groot is from The Poster Club sets the scene perfectly. The work of Helsinki-based interior designer Laura Seppänen, it has a distinctly Finnish style. The layering of deep grey tones and warm wood elements has created wonderful contrasts and warmth to the white backdrop.

I love this rustic kitchen styling by  Artilleriet announcing the opening of their newest store earlier this year.

Styling by Lotta Agaton with photography by Bohman Sjöstrand and art direction by Peter Herrman

Impeccable styling as always from Lotta Agaton, the bird's eye view vividly captures the depths and contrasts. I love it!

Some Moody blues to finish, I love this natural, effortless styling which actually takes a lot of skill to achieve.

TDC x BoConcept | Part II

Following on from last week, where I chose the stunning BoConcept Carmo sofa for our living room,  it's now time to pick the fabric and modular design. After looking through the vast selection of materials and colours options in store, I picked out some favourites to take home, where I've been able to look at them closely in our space alongside our existing materials, textures and colour palette.

In addition to choosing the right colour, which is of course a big factor, it's also really important to us that the fabric is hard wearing. BoConcept carefully select and test all their fabrics and leathers according to look, feel, utility and strength. Their leather range is incredible, and I couldn't resist bringing home a few, including the gorgeous 'Colorado' samples in a both a grey and tan.

I had a lot of fun draping the fabric around the living room, and seeing them paired with our home's monochrome palette and main elements, including our ash wood flooring, blush tones, muted shades, and natural green, marble and metallic accents. Creating a little moodboard also helped with the overall vision.

In the end, the Lux Felt Fabric won out. Made from NZ wool, it is the most durable fabric from the collection. With longevity in mind (and two young kids) this is a huge plus for us! The Lux Felt also defines the shape and detail of the sofa beautifully, and I simply love the distinctive Scandi look and textural feel of it. Available in nine different colours, the green toned Lux Felts were surprising standouts, but the two grey options were immediate contenders. I know that light grey works well in our living area, but being that it is time for a change, I chose the dark grey.

Styling and photography by Michelle Halford for TDC

Very happy with this decision, I love the depth and contrast of the dark grey Lux Felt fabric against our natural flooring and white backdrop. With the colour locked in, it now comes time to decide on our modular design.

The Carmo sofa is made up of many different fully upholstered modules, making it possible to re-arrange the sofa and customise different combinations. It was really important for me to visualise the configurations in our space, to ensure we got it right in terms of size. Using the BoConcept online 3D design tool Home Creator, the interior designers sketched our living room and inserted the sofa, customising the modules, including the colour and fabric. Proving invaluable, this tool not only enabled us to see the many different configurations, we ended up going bigger than we initially thought possible.

BoConcept also offers a free interior design service, so if you need someone to come to your home and bounce your ideas off, contact your nearest store or book an appointment online. The interior designers are on hand to help you with any scheme, ranging from one piece of furniture, single rooms and small apartments to big houses and corporate spaces.

I'm excited to now have all the 3D designs, which showcase five different ways we can configure our Carmo sofa in our living room. Make sure you follow along over the next couple of weeks when the sofa arrives. I'll be sharing how it looks at home, as well as all the different configurations.

Over on the Fantastic Frank blog today I spotted an interview with one of their newest stylists, Ida Lauga. Constantly inspired by the creatives they work with, I was keen to read it (with the help of google translate). Previously living and working in Paris, Ida recently moved to Stockholm, and looking through her work, I recognise the gorgeous homes, having admired them on Fantastic Frank

When asked about trends, Ida says it is not something she thinks about when styling. I think this approach is a positive one, and after experiencing a lot of 'noise' on the web today, and from my boys this afternoon, I'm finding her beautifully understated aesthetic really calming.

I'm so happy for my talented friend and blogger Hege Morris of Hege in France who recently launched her online store S2 20. With a lot of hard work and her eye for beautiful design, Hege has sourced a stunning range of Nordic homewares, from artists and designers all over the world.

Styling and photography by Bianca Wippe -  My Unfinished Home

Focusing on small independent designers and unique, handmade products, Hege says:

“I wanted to create an online shop that really gave individual designers and artists the chance to showcase their talents and passions, as well as capturing the pared back Nordic style I love so much. While much of what we recognise as Nordic design has become ‘trendy’ and perhaps ubiquitous, I really wanted to celebrate the understated elegance combined with functionality that defines true Nordic style. By choosing to work with individual artists and designers, who are perhaps less well known, I hope to bring their flawless craftsmanship to a wider audience without sacrificing that classic Nordic look that many people are looking for today.”

Styling and photography by Hege Morris - S2 20

Hege, who is Norwegian, has a background in interior design and her thoughtful approach has come about through years of experience and time spent living abroad. She has lived in the UK, France, China and Scotland where she currently resides. The name S2 20 stands for Studio 220 where the shop is based. In 2011, while living in France, Hege started her blog (hence the name) and its success has resulted in exciting collaborations as well as appearances in books, magazines, newspapers and on large international blogs. Paving the way for her new venture, the collection’s brands include Second Skin by July Adrichem, candle holders by Nicholas Oldroyd Design, limited edition print collection from Samantha Totty, handmade linen by Not Perfect Linen and leather products from by Wirth.

Styling and photography by Bianca Wippe -  My Unfinished Home

S2 20 also has a Designer Focus page where you can take a behind the scenes peek at where some of the products are made, along with photos and the artists' bios.

Collaborating with another talented blogger, Bianca of My Unfinished Home to produce some beautiful imagery, the shop offers easy browsing with products categorised by type such as Lighting, Magazines, Prints and Jewellery and materials such as Glass/Ceramics, Textiles, Wood and Metal. With so many gorgeous products on offer I found it hard to choose, but here are a few of my favourite picks.
