Dulux Spring Colour Forecast | Earthwerks

$

The Dulux Spring 2015 Forecast has been announced, and I'm excited to be the first to share the new colours for the upcoming season. Bringing with it a lightly masculine air, spring will be about throwing the doors and windows open and bringing a little of our surroundings inside, with the leading colour experts at Dulux predicting earthy browns and greens as the hero colours. Australian stylists, Bree Leech and Heather Nette King have created some beautiful imagery to illustrate the look.

“Think about a formal room or a casual sanctuary and create the mood of a library or space to escape,” Dulux Creative Consultant and Stylist Bree Leech says. “The ambiance won’t be strictly traditional in style; but rather will have a sophisticated mix of old and new items, with plenty of plants to bring nature inside.”

As reducing our impact on the earth continues to be a crucial community goal, we aspire to get in touch with nature on a more personal level. Responding to the trend, the Dulux Earthwerks palette includes the range of greens we might discover in our own landscapes, forests and gardens and explores our desire to have greenery in our homes and workspaces. There are nature-inspired greens, from soft silvery greens through to moss and sage leaf and beautiful earthy sepia browns and ochres.

“Natural colours such as green and neutrals with green undertones will be pivotal this spring,” Dulux Colour Expert Andrea Lucena-Orr says. “This includes earthy colours, such as Dulux Herald Island; as well as brighter shades. Even the most neutrally toned home can benefit from splashes of colour.”

Styling by Bree Leech and Heather Nette King with photography by Lisa Cohen

As you know I have a soft spot for green (especially the darker hues) and I'm always preaching about the benefits of indoor plants. The visual impact of these beautifully styled rooms is incredible, and I find myself looking at them again and again, taking in every detail, such as the brass accents, marble touches, intricate rug, ornate fire place and contrasting white-painted floor boards. I'd love to step inside the rooms and experience the full sensory effect!

Above all, remember that a fresh coat of paint is a simple and inexpensive way to add colour, personalise or create a place to feel comfortable, inspired and happy.

Father Rabbit | Paper Collective

My heart skipped a beat when I received news from Father Rabbit yesterday announcing latest arrival. All the way from Denmark, Paper Collective brings together their favourite graphic designers, agencies, artists and illustrators to create inspirational and iconic graphic prints. The result is a fresh mix of limited edition prints, each one unique but equally beautiful. What makes this brand even more appealing is that they promote great causes and charities, with at least 10% of the sale of each print goes towards the artists chosen charity.

Paper Collective have collaborated with an impressive list of designers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Copenhagen and Russia. They include Form Us With Love, Hvass & Hannibal and TAF Architects to name just a few. When you browse through the prints over at Father Rabbit, you can read about each designer, along with their chosen charity.

Ahhh now to decide on which one! As you can see, the collection is vast but Father Rabbit are limited to just three of each design so make sure you don't miss out! Shop the collection here.

One more thing before I go today. You may have seen the AMARA Interior Blog Awards banner on the side of my blog recently. An honour to even be nominated, I'd love to have your vote to be in with a chance of being shortlisted! You'll find me in the Best International Interior Blog category, (for interior blogs based outside of the UK, Europe, the US & Australia). Simply fill in your name and email address here to vote. Thanks!

Our BoConcept Carmo Sofa arrived last Friday and I could barely contain my excitement at seeing it in our space for the first time. While there was some nervous anticipation, to be expected with such a big change, I needn't have worried. The colour, material and overall look has exceeded my expectations, providing our living area with a huge boost in terms of quality and style. As for the comfort levels, let's just say it's been a complete game changer. My family and I are all completely enamoured, and looking forward to many years of enjoyment.

When the sofa arrived, I was thrilled to see that the feet had felt covers. In the past we've had to make these ourselves, as they are a must when it comes to wooden flooring. My husband who is particularly fastidious about our wooden flooring was over the moon! Our Friday night in was spent re-arranging the modular pieces, finally settling on one of our favourite configurations.

One of the many features that I love about the Carmo is that it has large, flat edges, perfect for placing items such as books, the TV remote or iPhone, while the kids use it for their toys and lego!

Styling and photography by Michelle Halford for TDC

I love the depth and contrast the Carmo gives to our space. It's such a great feeling to see the vision come to life and we couldn't be happier with our new sofa. It's also given me a great excuse to start making some other changes around the room, with artwork, rugs, lighting and coffee tables. Let the fun begin!

To finish off the series next week, I'll be showing you some of the different configurations that can be created with our modular pieces.

I was surprised to see that my last Instagram blog post was back in May. Partly it's because I've been doing more styling work on the blog, which I then share to Instagram. I like this order of events, but I'll always keep taking day to day snaps. For me that's what it's all about. Here are some recent faves.

Styling and Photography by Michelle Halford via @thedesignchaser

Some current loves around home, which you can spot in the images above:
Monogram Stationery from Studio Sarah
Hand Foraged Cutlery from the new Citta Design Summer 15/16 Collection Patterned Landscapes
New Cushions from Design Ministry
Vee Speers Untitled #11, Thirteen Print from Norsu Interiors
Theseeke Body Products from Father Rabbit
Marble Diary and Grid Tea Towel from LET LIV
Linear Escape Print from Mini Grandi Artist

The IG feed that I've chosen to share with you today has been at the top of my must-follow list for a while. Beyond inspiring, @thismintymoment is the work of Minh T, a California-based designer and image maker who embraces simplicity in its most beautiful forms. Time after time his photos take my breath away and as you can see I had a hard time narrowing down a selection for this post.

A beautiful palette that always evokes a sense of calm, soft grey and neutral tones are never far from my mind. As smaller accents, they work so well with a white backdrop, but why not go one step further with the walls and furniture? Daniella Witte has styled the new collection of grey-toned Sandberg Wallpapers called 'Forest' to perfection. The first hue is stunning, while the others feature a subtle texture that I also really love. The addition of natural wood and touches of black add further warmth and contrast.

Some more beautiful styling that has caught my eye lately, all with neutral colours and natural materials including wood, rattan and wool.

I've always said I'd love to build a big barn-like holiday home with a simple, plywood interior. Going straight to my inspo folder is this gorgeous holiday cottage belonging to the talented Minna Jones of Time of the Aquarius. Always so clever at sourcing vintage and flea market finds, I love the timeless Scandinavian furniture and lighting that Minna has chosen for the the incredible light-filled space.

We are getting so much enjoyment out of our new Carmo sofa from BoConcept. After an initial play around with the different configurations we settled on one that we loved, as showcased in Part III last week. Thanks to careful planning and expert help from BoConcept the sofa works beautifully in our space regardless of how we configure the modules, and we are loving the flexibility that it offers. To demonstrate its versatility I configured the sofa into a full modular set up that runs the length of one wall, creating a cosy yet expansive seating area in front of the television. It also provides separation between the living space and kitchen/dining areas - a great feature for our open plan space.

The corner piece of the Carmo Sofa provides exceptional comfort, and I love the open-ended look of this modular design. This spot creates a handy place to sit while talking to people in the kitchen, and as shown below, the final piece can be added to the end to create even more seating room. I also like how this arrangement keeps the space in front of the String Shelf clear.

As I mentioned in Part IIBoConcept provided images of our living room using their online 3D design tool Home Creator. Not only did these provide us with all of the options before making the final decision, they have been great to refer back to.

A big fan of Finland-based stylist Minna Jones, I love checking in to her blog Time of the Aquarius. In addition to following the renovation of her gorgeous summer house which I mentioned on the blog earlier this week in this post, I enjoy seeing glimpses of Minna's styling work. These beautiful images were created for the new Finnish interior design magazine Asun, run by Editor in Chief Ulla Koskinen.

Formed in 2010 by Ryan Hanrahan and Bianca Riggio Page Thirty Three is an Australian based design studio. Inspired by simple rituals and playful design they create objects, furniture and lighting for the home. Highly functional, their products have a cool, utilitarian aesthetic that I find really unique and refreshing. Judging by their popularity, I'm not alone and I'm sure many of you will be as excited as I am about their new collection entitled Ritual.

A continuation on one of their core themes, Page Thirty Three have expanded on the meaning of the word Ritual and its place in the home. With a clear focus on Australian design and Australian manufacture, many of Page Thirty Three’s objects have been hand crafted at their Sydney studio using renewable materials, ecologically friendly packaging, and a positive frame of mind. Here's a look at what's in store....

The Interlock Candle Holder can be used individually, or joined together to create geometric clusters. A simple yet innovative design, I love that you can personalise this product to suit your space. The holder comes in Matt Black, Electroplated Brass, Mid Grey and Coffee.

The stunning new Tripod Oil Burner reduces the diffusing of Essential oils to its most minimal form. It features a matt black finish tripod, Tasmanian oak candle holder and spun copper detailing.

Drawing reference to a classic yet refined science theme, the Essential Oil Burner had me at the Black Marble base. It also comes with the option of Tasmanian Oak and Waxed Concrete giving you three gorgeous options to choose from. The Oil Burners come with Australian grown lavender Oil and an Australian made beeswax candle. The new collection also includes a Compact Oil Burner. Created with a sustainable ethos and minimal aesthetic, it facilitates the simple act of daily ritual and relaxation. The range of assorted Essential Oils have been designed to suit all your emotional needs!

The new Bath Brew consists of giant tea bags for your bath, hand made in Australia using natural ingredients. Available in a range of beautiful blends, each is sure to provide a relaxing and remedial bath soak. Yes please.

Lastly, something for the garden with the new Mixed Herbs. Simply plant the colour coded pills containing herb seeds watch your garden grow! The Garden Spork has been specifically designed so the small scale gardener can fulfil all gardening needs with a single implement.

Duett Design

A collaboration between husband and wife duo Hannah and Greg Straight, Duett Design is a NZ based brand specialising in contemporary art prints. Many of you in NZ will be familiar with Greg Straight, who is well known in the art and design world for his strong use of vector and bright hues. When his wife Hannah got in touch regarding their new venture, I was excited to see that the prints had a Scandinavian influence and was curious to hear how this new idea took shape. It was in fact pretty simple. Hannah wanted to create some pieces to work in with the style of their own home, so turned to Greg to help her out. A success not only for them, it got friends and family talking. Before they knew it, Duett Design was born!

When working together on Duett Design, Greg takes direction from Hannah’s ideas and brings them to life with his sought after design skills. In addition to Scandinavian design, the brand takes influence from modern retro with a strong geometric edge. With five gorgeous collections already in production, the Minimal collection is a perfect fit for my home's Scandi aesthetic. Consisting of eight prints in total, I picked out some favourites to style.

I also like the compact size of the Mini Prints which add a playful touch to the kids desks below, alongside the gorgeous Full Moon print.

Visit Duett Design to see the full range of prints including the Minimal and Mini collections shown above, and the Metallic, Abstract and Plywood ranges. Different sizes are on offer, along with custom designs and framing options. Online shopping is available with worldwide Shipping

Understand and elegant, the soft muted interior continues throughout the home, providing a calming effect and a nice moment out from my hectic day. I also love the sunny bedroom that leads to a beautiful little outdoor veranda. As I look out my office window and see the rain bucketing down, this looks especially appealing. Roll on summer...

Gallery 4 | New Innovation in Tiles and Bathrooms

Gallery 4 is a new tile brand from the NZ family-owned bathroom company Smail & Co. A manufacturer and importer of bathroom wares since 1950, they own the well-known brands VCBC and Michel César, and are the importers of Burlington from the UK. The launch of Gallery 4 is an exciting addition and adds a unique design dimension to their current product range, connecting New Zealanders with some of the most distinctive tile and bathroom design products in the world. Their curated collection, sourced from abroad and locally, offers many products for the first time in New Zealand. From handmade artisan tiles and digitally coloured body porcelain to cast sinks and baths, new concepts and materials will inspire architects, designers and home owners alike.

The incredible Gallery 4 range includes Climatica Ceramiche from Italy and Huguet from Mallorca, who are combining local craftsmanship and innovations in materials science to produce tiles with depth of character and performance. I love that both of these companies display a great respect for tradition in their timeless flooring ranges, and a passion for fresh modern designs using age-old techniques. Huguet also provide a custom design service enabling clients to commission bespoke tiles, cladding, and kitchen/bathroom fittings.

At the other end of the spectrum, the young Italian design company 41zero42 is rewriting tradition by reimagining the ceramic tile, celebrating colour, texture and new materials in bold designs. It has developed some unique products and also reinvented a few classic tiles along the way.

In addition to these imported European products, Gallery 4 offers their own encaustic cement tile collection and custom design service. With characteristics similar to marble, the handmade tiles are highly durable and recyclable. First developed in France over 150 years ago, they are finding a renewed popularity in contemporary architecture for their natural look, waxy yet hard-wearing finish, and wide colour and pattern choice. While still a relatively new product in the New Zealand market, the team can advise on their use, and you can visit their showroom to see sample installations.

A beautiful addition to the Muuto Lighting Collection, GRAIN brings a new perspective to the pendant lamp by combining a classic minimalistic design using innovative new materials. Designed by Jens Fager, the versatile and environmentally friendly lamp has a warm and welcoming appearance and lots of character despite its simple iconic shape. I love the lamp’s refined matt surface which comes from a specially created mix of bamboo grain and plastic composite. Available in a range of colours, 'Green' and 'Nature' shown below are gorgeous.

The new Norwegian poster collection from Visse Vasse caught my eye this week. Capturing idyllic scenes in pretty pastels, the soft yet slightly rustic styling is also providing lots of inspo!

I love the pink details in this beautifully styled home, especially the Muuto Nerd Chair in the workspace.

After our fabulous new sofa arrived, we shifted the old three seater downstairs and have stored the two seater in the garage. I'm thinking about getting rid of both and going for a new look downstairs all together. A beautiful daybed is high on the wishlist, with a couple of firm favourites like the popular Safari Daybed which I love, and the Menu Daybed which is AMAZING in every way. The Beck Daybed (below) is another Danish beauty. Designed by Anders Folke Anderson for Foxy Potato, I adore the neutral colours and simplicity.

At first I thought this living room was a hallway, probably due to the little bench. Either way it works, especially with that incredible picture wall. The kitchen details are also lovely, as is the kidsroom which you can see along with the entire house tour here

I couldn't think of a better way to kick off the first day of spring than with the gorgeous new outdoor cushion range by Jennifer + Smith. A big fan of the Sydney textile designers - you may remember their pillowcases I showcased in my son Marlow's room - I'm so happy to see that they have introduced a range of cushions that are accessible to the outdoors. Featuring their signature bold and simple aesthetic, the collection features a mix of fun and classic designs and includes both floor and scatter cushions.

Founders Jennifer Fowler and Rebekka Carey-Smith are passionate about quality and original design. Using their combined backgrounds in landscape architecture, fashion, business and now textiles, they have developed the unique range of cushions and fabrics from a 100% polyester canvas, water and stain repellent with high UV resistance. The fabric boasts anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties to keep the cushions fresh while still remaining luxuriously soft.

The black and white ones are definitely calling my name... and motivating me to get our outdoor space ready sooner rather than later!

The entire range is now available for pre-order from Jennifer + Smith, and will be arriving with stockists mid September just in time for you to lounge your way into summer.

Blakes London | Beautiful Kitchen Design

This gorgeous kitchen designed by Jamie Blake of Blakes London has a very 'English countryside' feel to it. I can't help imagining a weekend getaway where friends and family are gathered around the kitchen, while the kids are playing in the vast open-plan space and running outside in the sunshine.

The lovely mix of materials (seven in total) all compliment one another beautifully and work as well in this traditional style kitchen as they would in a more contemporary space. White painted floors and exposed bricks, together with carrara marble, wood and and copper accents provide warmth, texture and an overall Scandinavian feel, while the subway tiles and dark blue cabinetry (painted in Farrow & Ball Railings) are very much in keeping with the classic, industrial style of the interior. The island's built in herb garden is also a great idea!

If you like the style of this kitchen, I highly recommend checking out this renovation project by Blakes London. Another gorgeous, light-filled space, it has a similar Scandi-industrial vibe and beautiful mix of materials.

Natural Styling with Cork

Referring back to this post on London-based designer Ilse Crawford, and her new Sinnerlig Collection for IKEA, it's great seeing the products being featured in Scandi styling projects on the web lately. In particular I keep noticing those made from cork, especially the Sinnerlig Coffee Table, which as you will see also makes a great benchseat. A natural material harvested from the bark of mature trees in southwest Europe and northwest Africa, cork is a sustainable, renewable and eco-friendly material that is extremely versatile. Soft and lightweight, it is both water and fire resistant, dirt-repellent and even dampens sound. Cork also looks great. If you need further convincing, these two styling projects should do the trick.

Styling by Alexandra Ogonowski and Photograpy by Kristofer Johnsson

Swedish housing company Blooc showcases beautiful Scandinavian style interiors and their latest project Patio, has a slight Japanese influence. Going hand in hand with the traditional Scandi values of form and function, the cork Coffee Table looks right at home, as does the cork Stool and beautiful bamboo Pendants, also from the Sinnerlig Collection.

Images via Alvhem

Another lovely example of the Sinnerlig Coffee Table being used as a benchseat, the cork looks lovely alongside lots of green plants, touches of natural linen, coloured glass and  Terracotta pots. I can also spot some other cork Sinnerlig products including the Pot Stand and Jar

Here's a peek inside the Stockholm home of Evelina Kravaev Söderberg, the head of design at H&M Home. White, bright and oozing Swedish charm, Evelina has mixed old with new to create a warm and inviting space. Wood elements, books, plants and a few quirky pieces here and there add to the overall appeal.

Styling by Lotta Agaton and photography by Kristofer Johnsson for Residence Magazine

Here are a few more images featured on the Elle Decor blog, which includes an interview with the creative director. Evelina says the bones of the space captured her heart — "As soon as we saw the apartment we fell in love ... We have never even thought of moving". However, the charming, layered feeling she has created was a slow process. "Over the years we have slowly built up our collection of furniture, focusing on Mid-Century pieces by designers such as Eames and Aalto, along with vintage finds and pieces that I love from H&M Home," she explains. "It took several years, as I only want to surround myself with objects that I truly love ... and that really just takes time."
