City Beach House by Fearon Hay

This stunning holiday home in Auckland is by the award winning firm Fearon Hay Architects. The owners, who are based in Canada, wanted to escape their winters for a beachside location and while it may be a long way from home, they fell in love with Auckland while holidaying here two decades ago. Designed for use exclusively during the summer months, the Takapuna beach home has a simple palette but plenty of texture and warmth thanks to rough-sawn marcrocarpa boards and ceilings, as well as exposed steel portal frames and timber rafters painted in a crisp white. Perforated metal screens installed around the entire structure can be opened up completely or shut down for privacy, while polished concrete floors and black joinery provide further contrast and texture. An understated approach to the interior styling completes the elegant yet laid back feel of the home.

For today's January Archive Series post I've selected my favourite bathrooms from some of the most visited posts to date. Matt black tapware has been a prominent feature, along with other monochrome accents. The addition of warm wood provides the perfect combination. Other popular elements include round mirrors, concrete surfaces, marble and metallic touches. The classic subway tile remains a staple, with smaller mosaic and patterned tiles providing the perfect choice for those wanting to creating a bolder statement.

Hübsch 2016 Collection

I first discovered Danish brand Hübsch around this time last year. In my post I wrote about how their beautiful products and styling were providing inspiration for getting our house back in order after the school holidays. Looking through their new 2016 collection I feel the same sense of calm wash over me, despite the fact there's still a few weeks until the kids go back! Featuring an extensive new range of furniture and homewares, I love the clean lines, natural materials and muted tones.

Choosing their personal home rather than a studio setting to showcase the new collection, Hübsch want to invite you into a little piece of their world. Mixing functionality with spaciousness, light and creativity, not to mention some beautiful traditional elements, the result is wonderful fusion of Danish interiors and design, sure to inspire.

The start of the year has brought with it plenty of exciting design news on the web as well as arriving daily to my inbox. I've picked out some favourites to share with you today!

Swedish brand Sandberg Wallpaper have collaborated with Annaleena Leino-Karlsson to showcase their latest range VINTERSKOG designed by Johanna VestlinA tribute to dreamy Scandinavian winters, the beautiful palette depicts a calm and quiet snow-covered forest. Beautifully styled by Annaleena in her newly built home, the wallpaper provides a gorgeous backdrop when paired with whitewashed oak floors and simple, monochrome details, including Annaleena's own minimalist clothes hanger.

Danish designer Kristina Dam continues to expand her collection of art prints, furniture and accessories with an incredible line up for Spring 2016. Some of my favourites include the Vertical Daybed made from soft leather and oak, a new Stone Poster Series featuring photographs of natural crystals and stones with a clean and graphic expression, and the beautiful Outline Mirror which has a steel frame providing a place to hang favourite items of clothing. I also love the Wooden Sphere, which features two turned wooden bowls that can be used separately or placed together. Made from oak, they come in natural, black or grey. View the new collection in its entirety here.

&Tradition have announced their revival of one of the signature pieces from Danish design master Arne Jacobsen, the Bellevue lamp. Produced in its original shapes as a floor, table and wall lamp, it will be launched in four contemporary colours. Stunning!

Torquay Concrete House by Auhaus Architecture

Located on the Victorian Surf Coast in Australia, this incredible concrete house is by Auhaus Architecture, an award winning design studio operating out of Melbourne and the Bellarine Peninsular. The personal project of talented creative couple Damian Oliveri of Oliveri Construction and his partner, artist Prudence Caroline, I have no doubt it would have been a dream come true seeing this through to its recent completion last year. The sheer size of the home together with its unique architectural features and combination of concrete and warm wood make it jaw-droppingly good to look at. I can only imagine how amazing it must be to live in.

I love the brass detailing by Auhaus seen throughout the home. Along with marble and wood, these materials add warmth to the natural concrete mass, while also providing exquisite patterning. A careful curation of furniture and textiles, including beautiful leather seating and luxurious rugs give the home further layers of interest and texture.

Revisiting some kitchen favourites today, it's so surprise to see plenty of black and white beauties. A popular choice for us Scandi-style lovers, we also gravitate towards marble, wood and metallic elements. Grey paint colours were big in 2015, with the darker shades provide a gorgeous choice for kitchen cabinetry. Some of these kitchens do include more than one photo in the original post, so if you're wanting to see more, simply click on the link below the image.

Located in Hellerup, Denmark, this beautiful light-filled, 19th century villa oozes Nordic charm. The dining room which features a stunning mix of pale herringbone flooring and bright white walls is beautifully furnished with Hans Wegner Wishbone Chairs. A simple picture wall provides a lovely focal point to the room. I'm sure that the owners, a family of four, must enjoy wonderful mealtimes here with the fire blazing, especially during the cold Scandinavian winters. The spacious area leads to a gorgeous sunroom, furnished with dusty pastel cushions, no doubt providing a relaxing retreat during all of the seasons.

The original range hood has been covered with copper, which along with the black lamps provide contrast to the bright white kitchen. The generous sized bedroom features warm grey tones and an incredible arched window.

A couple of weeks ago I introduced you to Berlin-based interior designer and stylist Annabell Kutucu with this beautiful home. Knowing I would be returning to share more of her work, I couldn't wait any longer to show you this stylish space, Loft Apartment + Studio. The living room, with its herringbone flooring and beautiful big windows would be a dream to both style and spend time in. Even though the room is grand, the modular furniture and layered floor rugs create an intimate, cosy feel.

A little bit darker and moodier in the kitchen and dining room, there's also a definite masculine vibe throughout the home. The bedroom however has been injected with a beautiful softness thanks to a warm grey palette and textural layers including the bedding and sheer curtains. These elements, together with the stunning windows and tree views outside make this room simply divine.

Introducing Collezione Bianca | A Private Collection by Lumira

After sharing a glimpse with you late last year, I am thrilled to be formally introducing you to the new Lumira collection today, Collezione Bianca. A tribute to beauty, simplicity and purity, the private candle collection consists of three exquisite fragrances designed to enhance our daily rituals with a sense of style and ceremony. Carefully created with the purpose that each individual fragrance can be burnt at a specific time of the day, I was very excited to put this to the test!

Since its launch in 2013, Lumira has become firmly cemented in my mind for delivering the most beautiful, high quality candles. Their attention to detail applied in production is meticulous, with the latest Lumira range having spent twelve months in development. The products are handcrafted at every level from the hand pouring of the all-natural soy wax to the casting of the glass, to create a truly beautiful premium product.

Inspired by her travels in Europe, North Africa and India, Creator Almira Armstrong wanted to share fragrances that captured vivid and cherished personal moments...

La Primavera, the daylight fragrance, takes me back to wandering flower laden streets in San Remo, whilst Sirocco conjures memories of warm afternoon wind lingering on skin subtly infused with the smell of exotic delicacies. And finally the nightfall scent, Darsana, evokes beautiful memories of serenity encountered inside dimly lit temples in India”.

Evoking a sense of daylight with a spirited and youthful nature, La Primavera sits happily in my office, filling the air with the most beautiful fragrance. Work has never looked or smelled so good!

Perfect for a relaxing, afternoon coffee break, the warmer scents of Sirocco evoke memories of summer days.

Delivering sensual and nocturnal notes, Darsana provides the perfect bedtime scent.

Enhancing the day-to-day routines with a sense of comfort, luxury and escapism, I have truly fallen in love with Collezione Bianca

One from my inbox today, this Helsinki home has a clean and fresh Scandinavian feel. Styled by Laura Seppänen, whose beautiful work you may remember from this post, the apartment is a compact 52 square metres, and features an effortless mix of vintage pieces and newer Danish design. Warm and cosy, the blue colour scheme, soft wood tones and graphic patterns combine to create a playful yet serene interior.

Modernism Reimagined by Menu

Returning from a very relaxing and enjoyable trip away, I'm fighting off the post-holiday blues by soaking up the latest design news. At the top of the list is Modernism Reimagined, the new Spring/Summer 2016 catalogue by Menu. Debuted in January at Northmodern in Copenhagen, the collection speaks of timeless and understated elegance with a focus on natural materials and earthy tones in a variety of finishes. These include wood, leather and metals, all of which have gorgeous imperfections, unveiling further beauty over time as they patinize.

The styling as always is impeccable, and I love how the images have a moody yet sophisticated mid-century retro feel.

So many favourites, but I think the hanging vessels above would be super versatile, while the Stone Lamp below is just stunning. Designed by the ingenious Danish du0 Norm Architects, with the Danish word ‘Hygge’ (roughly translated as cosy) in mind, the lamp recreates the beautiful atmospheric glow of candlelight.

A Unique and Cosy Apartment by FORM Architectural Bureau

The Kiev-based firm FORM Bureau completed this remarkable residential renovation project entitled "Ay" last year. With a focus on natural materials and fine detailing, lighting played an important role in highlighting the different textures of the white walls and ceilings, including distressed wood panelling and the apartment's original brickwork. There is such a vibrant feel to the imagery, I actually thought it was a 3D project at first!

A white palette and simplicity in design became the framework, with black accents providing contrast and natural wood for warmth. The recessed marble flooring in the kitchen area is stunning and I love how they have suspended four Ay Illuminate lights at different heights above the dining table. An expansive modular sofa in the adjacent living room, and separate nook layered with comfy bean bags give the home an incredibly cosy feel.

The home features several bespoke pieces which give it a unique edge. These include the hand rails of the light and airy staircase, bathroom towel holders made from white painted tree branches hung on rope, and the luxurious bedroom hammock.

Photography by Andrey Bezuglov and Gavrilov Sergey

The child's bedroom features a lovely mix of new and vintage treasures along with another gorgeous tree branch creation, this time as a clothes hanger.

New + Noted

My kids went back to school today so while I am enjoying the peace, the to-do list is long, and I've hit the ground running! First up this morning was a telephone interview with the NZ Herald online, talking all things Instagram for small business, and now a post brimming with beautiful new designs from around the globe. Let's go....

In my last New + Noted post I introduced you to the beautiful Bellevue Lamp by one of my favourite brands, &Tradition. Two more additions to their 2016 collection include the stunning Passepartout wall lamp by Jamie Hayon and Moor Rugs designed by All The Way to Paris

Images via &Tradition

A new discovery for me, Rex Kralj is a furniture company that was founded in 1952. With a focus on simplicity, heritage and craftsmanship, their products are truly beautiful. Recently they teamed up with some talented creatives to produce a catalogue entitled Timeless.  Referencing both past and present, the central theme of Light & Dark is portrayed through the eyes of person going about their day, from morning to night. Together with stunning imagery, the result is simple yet captivating and I highly recommend you pop over here for a look.

by Lassen have launched Rimm, a collection of vases and flowerpots that "invite nature inside." As with the Kubus collection, the beautiful vessels have a graphic starting point but also encompass softer, rounder elements which I love. The colour palette is also very pretty. See the full range here

Recently featured on the blog in this post, Dutch lifestyle brand Crisp Sheets have now released their first capsule collection. This includes a striking range of watercolour posters inspired by the Zodiacs, and a stunning new stonewashed linen collection which I've chosen to share with you today. I absolutely love the colour palettes which make up two reversible duvet sets; Milky Way (grey and black toned duvet set with grey pillowcases) and Supernova (midnight blue and black toned linen with midnight blue pillow cases).

Relaxed Living in True Scandi Style

With the kids having only just returned to school yesterday, and so much to catch up on I'm not feeling quite ready for the weekend, but I'll take it! Especially seen as we're celebrating another three-dayer here in NZ for Waitangi Day. Currently working through some blog content and planning for the year, I picked out this residence today because of its truly authentic Scandinavian style and relaxed, homely feel. I can imagine low-key family meals around the cosy dining table and hanging out in the beautiful, spacious living room. Inevitably my boys would take turns playing the guitar, and if it got a bit loud (which it would) I'd move into the gorgeously serene bedroom with a good read!

Photography by Jonas Berg

White and bright with warm wood and leather elements, the artworks, books and plants add to the overall lived-in feel, while the seamless mix of old and new gives it loads of soul. Yes, I could certainly live here.

Brown tones add such a lovely warmth to bright white spaces. I usually gravitate towards darker tones, but the caramel colour of the leather sofa below provides a striking contrast against the monochrome backdrop. Adding a graphic element to the room and enhancing the overall effect is the very cool steel partition. I'm not quite sure where I would put it, but I really want one!

Small touches can also make an impact. I love the look of the leather clutch against the white walls and marble desk in this next image.

More marble below, with simple terracotta pots sitting atop the dining table and windowsill. A mix of different sizes and a range of interesting plants will create a focal point in any light filled, white space.

Line Klein Revisited

I'm a huge fan of Copenhagen-based photographer Line Thit Klein and have shared her work on more than one occasion over the years. Landing on her website this morning, I soon found myself immersed in her portfolio, a familiar feeling and a very welcome one! Known for her distinct artistic approach to high-end photography, Line has, over the years, established a solid reputation for her visual ingenuity and strong compositions. Undoubtedly Scandinavian, her style is warm, refined and timeless. Her ability to understand and capture light in a seemingly intuitive and effortless way is apparent in all of her work, as is her attention to detail. I always find myself lingering over her photos, taking in the fine textures, subtle nuances and moods that she skilfully reveals. Working with many leading internationals clients, top magazines, best selling books and campaigns and catalogues, her work is prolific and without fail, always manages to take my breath away. I've selected some favourite interior stories to share with you.

The first is for Københavns Møbelsnedkeri (Copenhagen Joinery) who you may remember from this post last year where I featured the owner's incredible home and showroom.

If your new year resolution is to declutter your home, this residence will certainly inspire. It may also leave you wanting to freshen up the paint and floors! I really love the grey skirting boards - they provide a lovely contrast to the all-white walls and pale wooden floorboards. This calming colour palette carries on throughout the home, providing the perfect backdrop for cork, marble and brass accents. A wonderful collection of black and white photographic art gives the understated living area and bedrooms warmth and personality, while the sheer curtains in the light-filled, dining room give the space a beautiful softness.
