Scrolling through my Instagram over the last couple of months, this first image I posted back in January is a favourite. Since moving into our new build two and a half years ago I've become very familiar with the light in our home and how it moves around the spaces at different times of the day. We are fortunate that the upstairs open-plan living space is bathed in natural light, and I love how it streams in from the windows and travels across to the side of the String Shelf. If you look closely you'll see the it catching the edge of the Houston Design Co ceramics and Cultiver napkins, enhancing the natural textures and shapes. The shadows across the models face in the Repossi image add to the effect with a beautiful play on light and dark

I've had the pleasure of testing out the latest Nespresso Limited Edition capsules this week and I’ve taken a serious liking to the sweet and silky smooth Tanim de Chiapas from coffee growers in Chiapas, Mexico, while the Umutima wa Lake Kivu produced by coffee growers in Rwanda is highly aromatic and refreshing. Providing the ultimate afternoon pick me up, the capsules arrived with the beautiful banana, coffee chocolate cake pictured below.

For those in Auckland, Bloom Social have put together a stunning Valentine's Day edit, teaming up with Moochi to include a selection of jewellery and Essie NZ with a polish duo to go along with the gorgeous blush coloured roses. There's still time to pre-order if you're quick, (or drop some hints for the man in your life!) I was also very happy to receive some more La Chamba cookware to add to my collection. The organic, handcrafted and wonderfully versatile pieces are exclusive to French Country Collections and can be purchased at their Herne Bay store Un Deux Trois and at selected stockists

January included some holiday pics from our stay up at Point Wells, near beautiful Omaha beach, just an hour and a half north of Auckland.

Finally, a highlight from this week was attending the Citta Design Winter 2016 Preview Beautiful Utility - A Journey to 1970s Berlin. The Haus Tea Towel and Ginger Bread Candle above give you a small taste of what to expect. It's all gorgeous and I can't wait to share more with you!

When it comes to Stockholm Design Week, Lotta Agaton's work for String is always a highlight and this year is no different with reports of it being one of the most popular stands. As always, I've enjoyed seeing images floating around the web taken by bloggers, but this time around I've also loved seeing her work featuring Note Design Studio for Residence magazine. Now showing at ArkDes, the exhibition has been curated by Lotta as an interpretation of Note Design Studio, showing both their wide production and business activities, while also emphasising the aesthetic values and the role of design in a home environment. I absolutely love the layout and overall design concept of this exhibition and can imagine walking through the expansive space, stopping to take in each incredible display. I'm particularly inspired by the different colour palettes and wall textures, with each 'room' featuring a beautifully styled collection of furniture, lighting, art and objects.

The exhibition will run until February 28th.

I recently came across a wonderful interview with Lotta Agaton, giving further insight into her creative world, including upcoming projects and what inspires her. Interviewed by the lovely and talented Leila Budjen of Ligne Studio, you can read it here.

BNZ GoodHome | Issue Six

When I started blogging nearly four years ago I never imagined it would lead on to me doing work for a major bank here in NZ. In contrast to TDC, where I share what inspires me along with my own styling work, BNZ GoodHome is centred around practical advice and tips for homeowners. The DIY element is especially fun! In this issue I have written four articles. The first, Getting Your Home Ready for Sale breaks down what can be a daunting task into six easy steps including decluttering, depersonalising and major renovations versus minor updates.

Carrical House by Rob Mills Architects and Interior Designers

In this issue's Room Series I visit the often neglected laundry, showing you how to create a functional, efficient and stylish area you will actually enjoy using.

Laundry design by Paulo Rosario for via Behance

For Creating an Outdoor Retreat I was given the task of transforming an older deck located in the suburb of Titirangi, which is known for its beautiful natural environment. The hero piece was the DIY sofa made by fellow contributor and DIY extraordinaire/TV personality Cocksy. Made from demolition Rimu from the kitchen of an old villa, the expansive sofa has a warm, rustic look that fits beautifully in this private bush setting. Solid with clean lines, it would work equally well in a modern space. In fact, I've already shown my husband in the hope he will make one for ours! Pop over here to see step by step instructions.

Styling by Michelle Halford

I selected some gorgeous pieces from Indie Home Collective to style the space. Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, the Concrete Cubes make a great coffee table (or additional seating) and add to the overall rustic vibe, while the monochrome accessories add contrast more layers of texture.

See the full product list here

I also had my turn at doing a fun DIY for this issue, making some very versatile little concrete stools. An easy project, check out the instructions and accompanying video here.

Of course you'll also find plenty of more tips and advice from both Cocksy and property expert Stephen Hart.

Designstuff | Interview + Reader Offer

I first discovered the Melbourne-based online store Designstuff through Instagram. With its strong Scandinavian focus I felt an instant connection, but I was also drawn to the warm and friendly captions that went with each inspiring image. Judging by their following, now nearing 100K, I am clearly not alone. Resonating with many Scandi design lovers around the world, Designstuff was founded in 2012 by Christina Fedders and is home to a contemporary collection of design in various forms, including homewares, toys, gifts and art – all handpicked from a pool of local and international talent. The Scandinavian influence makes perfect sense when you learn that Christina actually grew up in Denmark. Inspired by both her upbringing and her travels as an international fashion buyer, Christina created Designstuff as a unique online destination for people who love to live through design. Wanting to find out a bit more about the company and the people behind it, I asked Christina a few questions...

Can you tell us a bit about your roots, Danish background and the path that led you to launching an online store?

It’s funny, I can’t actually remember a time when I wasn’t fascinated with design. I think maybe it’s in my blood. I grew up in Denmark, where my Dad is a buyer and product developer in the fashion industry. I have memories of being on family holidays and trawling through vintage shops in San Francisco, stores in Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam - With my Dad, looking for inspiration for “The Next Big Thing.” As a young girl, I would beg him to take me to the Trade Fairs in Milan and other parts of Europe. And once I was actually old enough, he really did take me. So I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a buyer.

After I graduated university, I won a global internship that allowed me to work in buying departments in Canada, New York and Hong Kong. Eventually I ended up in Melbourne in Australia in a fashion-buying role that I absolutely loved. But after the birth of my daughter Clara (now 4) I realised that I needed a career change. Fashion was hectic and crazy and wonderful, but not always family friendly. Suddenly 70 hour+ workweeks and constant overseas business trips didn’t seem feasible. I decided I wanted to start my own small business and starting a Scandinavian design-focused store felt incredibly natural.

How would you describe your personal style and how is this reflected in the products you stock?

This question is so funny, because I look down and realise that my personal style is a mirror image to the products that we stock. Ha! For example, I rarely wear black, I’m not afraid of colour, I love clean lines and I will often accessorise my outfits with a touch of brass.

And in regards to the products that we stock, we only stock very select black pieces, lots of designs in soft colours, products with beautiful clean lines and I love metallic products in brass, copper and nickel. After this interview I may have to start dressing differently!

What do you look for when seeking out new brands and product ranges?

A few different things, but we do love a good back-story. A good story behind a brand or range gets us every time. Also we look for authenticity, quality and value. Apart from that, we always try to keep on top of trends. I must get that from my Dad. I’m still searching for The Next Big Thing.

It's great to see that you stock so many of TDC readers' favourite Scandinavian brands, including recent arrivals from ferm LIVING, HAY, and Menu to name just a few! What is it about these brands that you love?

We love ferm LIVING, HAY and Menu too. It’s interesting, on the surface maybe these brands don’t feel aesthetically similar but something that unites them is their constant pursuit for designs that take risks and set new trends. All three brands regularly ask designers from other studios to collaborate with them on product designs. We love this! It’s such a great way to keep things fresh and exciting.

What would be your favourite product picks right now?

Within our Child + Baby category, definitely the Tower Chair by BZBX– It’s just so adaptable, we love that a child can sit in the same chair from six months through to seven years. Also, we love its clean lines and fresh Scandinavian styling.

As for homewares, a personal favourite is the Globe Vase by new Danish brand AYTM. We opened the box up last week and we were all blown away. It is so much bigger then you expect. It creates a really beautiful statement without being too overpowering or showy. I also love the Greek marble range by Mette Ditmer. Mette is Danish too, and she’s created the most beautiful bathroom accessories using real Greek marble. There’s a soap dispenser, a tumbler and a toilet brush all accented with matte black nickel. The range is truly beautiful.

What have been your most popular products to date?

Definitely the Tower Chair, the Menu Bottle Grinders, the Adventure Rug from Oyoy, quilts from Cam Cam and anything ferm LIVING does in brass. Our customers are crazy for brass.

Do you travel often for work... trade shows, buying trips etc? Any exciting trips coming up or projects in the works?

I get back to Denmark at least twice a year and when I’m in Europe I always make it a priority to travel to Stockholm and Paris. I feel like between Copenhagen, Paris and Stockholm I can really get a feel for what the up and coming trends are and what might work well for Australia and New Zealand. Also, I try to attend Maison & Objet and Northmodern every year but it can sometimes be hard with two young kids. I think I know now, why my Dad made me wait till I was older before letting me attend trade fairs with him!

Who is the voice behind your Instagram account?

It’s actually Monica, one of the girls on our small team. Can you believe that before I made her responsible for our Instagram account, she had never actually been on social media before? Never been on Instagram and never had a Facebook account? I think it’s amazing how well she’s done considering she was a complete social media novice. It’s definitely her calling! She is such a natural.

You have built up an impressive Instagram following! What role does it play in your day to day business? Who are some of your favourite Instagram accounts?

Yes, it’s incredible; Monica’s grown our following from 2,000 to over 95,000+ in little over a year! I think it’s because her genuine passion for design and interiors really shines through. Her enthusiasm is infectious and our followers love how relaxed she is. There is no snootiness or snobbery, which is exactly how I want our team to represent Designstuff. In day to day business Instagram helps a lot. Being an online business, our customers need to be able to reach us on as many channels as possible and a lot of people prefer to contact us via Instagram. They like the immediacy and fun of it.

My favourite Instagram accounts are: @simonlarsen, @matharrison, @simonehaag, @hellomala, @tuulavintage, @dane_studio, @tessguinery, @_sophiajames_, @huxbaby, @sallyfazeli, @biancacash, @virgola_, @curated_by, @tarapearce, @designdevotee, @petraholain, @zotheysay, @whitefortype, @aimeestylist, @ameliabarnes, @sarah_kelk, @mimdesignstudio, @amerrymishap, @sophie_vine, @scandifan, @casieeeesmith, @jessicahansonstylist, @jardanfurniture, @menuworld and of course @thedesignchaser! But I could go on and on and on…!

What else inspires you... on the web, other creatives, travel etc?

Definitely Danish interior magazines. I subscribe to a select few, and find them endlessly inspiring. I find RUM Interior Design magazine particularly inspiring. On the Melbourne interior design scene, I always love what Hecker Guthrie and Mim Design Studio are doing. And on a more personal level I draw a lot of inspiration from my team and my family. They all have such exceptional taste, even my four year old!

What a wonderful insight into the world of Designstuff! Huge thanks to Christina!

I have spent quite some time pouring over the extensive range of products to pick out some to share with you. Not an easy choice, but here are some favourites....

Interior Styling | All in the Details

As a stylist I often fantasise about having a purpose built studio and never ending-supply of props at hand. But in reality I love the challenge of thinking up new ideas, being resourceful and working with what I have. When I look for inspiration it's very much around that of a Scandinavian aesthetic, but it's not all about the latest trends. I love it when the stylist has thought outside of the box to come up with something new, even if its just a small detail. In fact it's often the small details that really make the difference. That and taking the 'less is more' approach.

Styling by Sofie Brunner and photography by Enok Holsgaard for Elkeland

The same goes for design, which is why I've included a couple of examples in today's post. Unsurprisingly, the styling fits in perfectly with the theme. The Mirror Mobiles by Elkeland above are exquisite with their subtle play of light and understated appearance. Available in different shapes, the HalfMoons can be hung n several different ways, due to the sliding intersection of the brass sticks. So pretty and clever! The Elkeland Wallhanging is also on my wishlist.

Styling by Anna Pirkola and photography Katri Kapanen for ASUN magazine

The styling above and below are by two of my favourite Finnish stylists. I love their use of natural materials, the soft colour palettes and interesting textures.

Styling by Minna Jones and photography by Pauliina Salonen for ASUN magazine

The stunning 1978 blown-glass lighting design by Dutch designer Gijs Bakker has been put back into production by Danish homeware brand Lyngby Porcelain. Bakker's Tripod light is comprised of a single piece of clear mouth-blown glass, shaped like an elongated dome. I love it!

Finally, some beautiful white on white styling with creative touches.

Balwyn House by Fiona Lynch

I've admired the stunning work of Melbourne-based interior designer Fiona Lynch for some time so was excited to come across her latest residential project, Balwyn House. What initially struck me about this home, besides the amazing attention to detail that Fiona is known for, is the rich colour palette and beautiful textures. Incredibly, the house was designed using large panels of burnished concrete, framed and poured on site. Complimentary materials were chosen including aged brass, oak joinery and Elba stone from Arte Domus. All very tactile yet so refined and sleek, the hard surfaces are softened with beautiful furnishings across a jewel-toned palette of navy, dark green and burgundy. As for the IC Pendant by Flos, imagine having that beauty hanging above your desk!

That puppy deserves a mention too, don't you think? Too cute.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kutikai | Creative Furniture for Kids

Kutikai is a children's furniture brand created, designed and produced in Poland by two architects, Maria Borgosz-Smaga and Dorota Luczak-Leniar. Best friends and mums, the clever duo's inspiration comes from watching their kids play while discovering the world around them. The result? A range of beautifully functional, minimalist furniture that is designed to be both safe and ecological. What's more, it gives kids the freedom to create. Produced at a small, family carpentry shop in southern Poland, each piece is made with love and refined in every detail.

Kutikai offers two collections of kids' furniture from cribs and toddler beds to dressers with changing tables, bookshelves, wardrobes and desks. Each one has a surprise element designed to unlock creativity and imagination. The The Roof Collection has been designed to transform any room into a playground - a desk for drawing can be a house to play in, or a secret den. A bed with a roof will turn in ta private ship or a castle in the blink of an eye! Such unique and clever products, it's little wonder this collection was a finalist of Good Design 2015  - a prestigious, nationwide design competition held annually by the Institute of Industrial Design in Poland. In addition, Kutikai are finalists of ECO DESIGN, awarded by the Ministry of Environment in Poland.

The Peekaboo Collection is simple in form with one distinctive feature - a little hole that works as a handle to encourage independence, while also stimulating curiosity and imaginative play. In addition to their furniture lines Kutikai offer a selection of accessories including a gorgeous range of bedding made from 100% linen in a range of natural colours.

Interior Styling by Monika Lenarczyk / photography by Jakub Pleśniarski

Currently available at www.kutikai.com with shipping across Europe (UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, shortly in the Netherlands and Sweden), Kutikai will also soon be available in Australia. My Instagram Tips for Viva

I mentioned last week that I had been interviewed by the NZ Herald online regarding a series they were doing on Instagram for small business. If you missed it and would like some tips on how to use Instagram as a powerful marketing tool and to grow your following, take a look here. Coincidentally around the same time I was approached by Viva, the NZ magazine that comes out with the NZ Herald every Wednesday. They too wanted to interview me for their online edition and I was excited to see that it went live today.

While both interviews include my top tips for Instagram, each one is from a slightly different angle. In both I touch on topics such as frequency of posting and recommended apps, but with Viva I also talk about some different aspects such as why Instagram is important to me, how to take a good flatlay, and who are some of my favourite instgrammers. All really practical advice that I hope you will find helpful! To read the interview, pop over here.

Even though my last Instagram post was only a week or so ago, it seemed fitting to include a few recent pics today!

The Herb Garden by Jo Malone London

Known for their fresh and original fragrant combinations and beautifully elegant packaging, Jo Malone London has released a new collection that delivers all of that, and then some. Entitled The Herb Garden, the five fragrances are simply delightful, as are the green bottles which I had fun photographing today. With the doors and windows open, the sun shining and the sound of chirping crickets filling the air, it seemed like the perfect setting to test them out!

The Herb Garden is a captivating and delectable combination of fragment foliage entwined with flowers and fruit. Fresh and zingy, each one has unexpected twists that make it hard to choose a favourite. One that I keep coming back to is Carrot Blossom & Fennel. It has a lovely earthy sweetness mixed with elegant floral notes. A truly unique and unforgettable scent. Although I could say the same about each of them! The other fragrances that make up this incredible collection are Sorrel & Lemon Thyme, Wild Strawberry & Parsley, Nasturtium & Clover and Lavender & Coriander.

The Herb Garden Collection will be available in NZ from the 7th of March. For both local and international boutique locations take a look here

Cult Design | News from the Stockholm Furniture Fair

$

Known in both Australia and New Zealand for their comprehensive collection of Scandinavian designer furniture and lighting brands, Cult Design have provided some exciting news from this February's Stockholm Furniture Fair. I've picked out some favourites to share with you today.

First up, this one gets my heart racing because I am such a huge fan of designer Hans J. Wegner and his iconic collection of chairs - the Wishbone, Flag Halyard and CH88, to name a few. Now Carl Hansen & Son has recreated one of Hans J. Wegner’s early designs: the CH22 lounge chair from 1950, which was part of his debut collection for the Danish furniture manufacturer - a series that included such iconic designs a the CH24 (better known as the Wishbone Chair mentioned above). Wegner also took inspiration from CH22 and created a blueprint for transforming the lounge chair into a dining chair, the CH26. Remarkably until now, this design has never been produced. Both chairs share many of the design elements so characteristic of Wegner including organic shapes, bold backs, light-coloured wood and woven seats.

Caravaggio Read is a new addition to designer Cecilie Manz’ iconic Caravaggio series for Danish lighting manufacturer Lightyears. Based on the wall lamp’s adjustable shade, Manz has created a whole new universe of Caravaggio lamps with functional, directional light. I love them all, but the wall lamps (beautifully styled over the console and as a bedside light) are definitely a favourite.

Republic of Fritz Hansen presented two new furniture pieces at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2016: the new Pluralis table and the Oxford chair in two new editions. In combination the two provide an elegant and modern meeting room interior for workplaces or home offices. Sophisticated but with a touch of fun, I particularly love the pink chair.

The incredible new HECTOR sofa designed by acclaimed Norwegian design duo, Anderssen & Voll, marks their second collaboration with Danish furniture manufacturer and heritage brand, Erik Jorgensen. Despite its contemporary look, HECTOR has clear references to several recognisable and time-honoured elements from Erik Jørgensen’s more than 60-year history, such as the classic composition and focus on comfort. With its soft cushions and high back, the sofa is created for relaxing, while the clean lines make it the prefect fit for a modern Scandinavian interior. What's not to love?

In collaboration with Swedish designer Monica Förster, Erik Jørgensen has also released the Savannah Coffee Table to complete the Savannah furniture range that launched last year. The new table echoes the slender wooden framework of the sofas and chairs with the same attention to quality joinery and supreme Danish craftsmanship.

“This table is designed to harmonise with the entire collection, but it can also stand on its own. With its slender lines, it is also an extremely versatile table – making it ideal as a side table or in the hall as well,” explains Monica Förster.

The frame of the coffee table comes in a variety of dark or light wooden finishes with a table top in wood or granite, which is in distinct contrast to the popular marble trend of recent years. You can see the full range here

These new products will be available across the Cult showrooms later in 2016. A truly exceptional range of products, I cannot wait to see them in real life!

An Architect Duo's Charming Melbourne Home

While the bright blue front door (seen in the bottom image) of this Victorian Terrace home in Melbourne leads the way to a more restrained colour palette, it certainly promises loads of charm. Designed by architect/owner duo Annick Houle and Stephen O’Connor of O’Connor and Houle Architecture, the home's cosy living room below is all kids of wonderful with the eclectic gallery wall, Lampe Gras lighting  and suspended fireplace.

The couple's impressive art collection provides warmth and interest to every room, even the stunning kitchen which features a mix of American oak veneer cabinetry and Cararra marble benchtops.  I love the bold monochrome palette and open shelving.

The open plan sitting area and study is beautifully light and spacious. The vintage Hans Wegner table that Annick and Stephen bought while living in the US fits in beautifully with the built in shelving, while the Tom Dixon pendant adds a modern touch. The Artworks are by Claes Oldenburg.

The home's new extension, which provides a wonderful indoor outdoor flow, was designed around the 4.5m antique baker’s bench shown above. Adding a warm rustic touch as well as providing the focus of many family activities, the dining table is paired with a set of iconic Alvar Aalto chairs by Artek

Previously an old factory, this building in Copenhagen has been transformed into a bright and spacious home. With large open-plan rooms and high ceilings, the space has a gallery-like feel, perfect for the owners who are an art loving family. White floors, ceilings and walls provide the ideal blank canvas for their extensive artwork collection, and in the living area they have devoted an entire wall to the works of Rasmus Nellemann, Simon Lindhardt and Cathrine Raben Davidsen among others. Iconic Scandinavian designed furniture and lighting feature throughout the home, from iconic brands such as Fritz Hansen and Arne Jacobsen.

Photography by Kristian Septimius Krogh

A truly unique home that cleverly integrates work and leisure, I love the office space with its floor to ceiling shelving and kayaks having on the wall. Providing plenty of natural light, the huge skylights that feature throughout the home are also a standout feature.

True to form I'm kicking off with some design news from Denmark, but the rest is all from Down Under today. I'm loving all this local talent and I'm excited to share it with you.

If you've been following TDC for a while you may remember the Danish brand Woud that I introduced you to here. Launched early last year, they have just showcased a new collection for 2016 with some beautiful new furniture, lighting and home accessories. The elegant Baenk Bench designed by NUR (also available in light oak) is a favourite. I also love the sleek lines and curved edges of the S.A.C Dining Chair, designed by Naoya Matsuo. Shown alongside the playful Dot Pendants by Rikke Frost, I actually have so many favourites I could go on and on, but I'll let you check out the full catalogue here. Now the great news is, Woud has made it to Australia, exclusive to the the lovely Melbourne-based online store Resident GP.  I think I can hear the collective sigh of relief...

ESKO is a new Sydney design studio that brings Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics and high quality craftsmanship in a new range of ceramic homewares. Founder and designer Mandy Simpson has launched with a set of storage pots made in collaboration with ceramicists in Ubud, Indonesia. They feature a minimal yet distinctive design, and a certain purity in function inspired by the design history of Northern Europe and Japan. I also love the matte ceramic finish and simple palette of clean white and earthy cinnamon. The range of sizes allow for all types of storage in the kitchen, bathroom or office. They would also make great planters.

Taking the utmost care in partnering with organisations with a commitment to ethical standards and preserving artisan skills within the community, Mandy says "how they are made is just as important as how they look. There is a value in the uniqueness of the handmade process and exceptional craftsmanship. It gives ESKO the texture, the look and the feel I wanted but also a certain depth in knowing each pot is hand-made in a supportive community environment”. ESKO also commits to donating 10% of net profits to a registered Australian charity. In 2016 this will be MakerSpace & Company, a community collective for Australian artists and makers. Visit ESKO to shop online (international shipping is available) and to keep up with new products, follow on Instagram

Kate & Kate have done it again with another incredible collection, Exhale. Showcased for the first time at Life InStyle in Sydney, the inspiration for this season came from a shared desire to pause, reflect and forge a considered path forward. The result? A stunning collection of gradient greys, nuanced pinks and blues, free-form shapes and luxurious natural fibres - brought to life in Kate & Kate's signature Blankets, Linen Throws, Napkins, Cushions and Towels. Exhale’s reflective mood is expressed not only in design, but also in a fine hand-stitched finish, superior quality materials, and for the first time.. wait for it... an exciting exploration of luxurious Alpaca wool. Ahhh... nothing beats the softness of Alpaca. In the words of Kate & Kate "Take time. Breathe it in. Create space. Exhale." Oh, we will.

Exhale is now available for online preorder (with March delivery) at Kate & Kate. To see more of the incredible campaign, check out the Exhale Lookbook and watch how it was created with this cool behind the scenes video

David Moreland Design is a NZ studio known for producing high quality, innovative furniture and lighting solutions. Their latest release sees two new table collections, Helix and Area. The Helix Tables have a very accurately engineered aesthetic but still appear soft and light. I love the graphic look of the white steel base, in contrast with the warm and textural oak plywood. The base is also available in a black matt powder-coat and the top in a clear or smoke grey glass, which you can see here

The Area Tables, available in matt white laminate or oak, feature a unique, minimalist design. They come with the option of being paired with a black edge, cleverly accentuating the clean lines. I like the idea of mixing a couple of each of the side tables (pictured above), and there is also a larger coffee table option. See the full range here

Something a little different today and definitely one for concrete lovers, this new build in Denmark is mixes raw textures and interesting design elements. Designed by Sebastian Schroers of studio Ardess, the owners wanted a raw and unique house that would still fit in harmony with the neighbourhood's older dwellings. Beautiful Dinesen flooring adds warmth to the concrete. The dining table has been made from Dinesen planks as well, surrounded by the classic Series 7 chairs by Fritz Hansen. I also love the built in shelving and modular sofa that the owners designed themselves. Glass, sculptural objects, statement lighting and beautiful artworks complete the look.

Rexa Design is an Italian company that produces beautiful, contemporary bathroom furniture. Working with high quality products including Corian® and Korakril™, their innovative designs feature clean lines and fine detailing. Rexa also pride themselves on their sustainable approach to production, and environmentally friendly products. I absolutely love the natural use of materials and simplicity in design.

I'm particularly drawn to the Esperanto and Moode Collections which feature an enticing collection of sleek modular cabinets, integrated or over-counter basins, mirrors and holders. With an extensive range of materials and different colour palettes to allow for personal customisation, I think I could easily design my dream bathroom with these products!

The Murano glass basins are amazing. I'm obsessing over smoked and muted-coloured glass at the moment, but I never would have thought of using it like this in the bathroom. Now I'm completely sold on the idea!

I've talked before about my love of bench seats, including this feature on The Sunday Bench, which is a wonderful addition to our dining table. So much so, I haven't yet utilised it other areas of our home as I had planned, but I'm sure it will happen in due course! Such a versatile piece of furniture, bench seats certainly provide plenty of styling opportunities. Ideal for the end of the bed, check out this TDC post for some great ideas. Being narrow, they also lend themselves to hallways and living room corners. Providing a place for everyday items and to display plants, books or other favourite objects, I love seeing a statement artwork hung above a bench seat like in these examples below.

This next bench seat, the cork Sinnerlig by IKEA, is placed below a striking gallery wall and provides a simple, low-level shelf for books and objects.

The latest House Doctor catalogue features some great bench seat options including this zinc one, which has a cool, industrial style. Taking place of art, a wall-hung mirror would be perfect for a hallway.

Stack your magazines on top of the bench seat, or for something different stack them underneath and lean framed prints on top. If you have space for it, a bench seat also works well behind a sofa. This long wooden one by House Doctor is perfect.

The Foxes Den | Functional Style for Everyday

I first featured The Foxes Den back in 2014 when they launched their beautiful online store, and again last year with the exciting news that they had opened a store within The Shelter, an incredible shared retail space in Auckland. With a focus on eco-friendly, handmade items The Foxes Den seeks out functional homewares from around the world. I love that their product range has a Scandinavian feel with minimalist well-designed objects for everyday use. Pieces that are made with natural materials across a neutral colour palette, they fit perfectly into my home. I've styled a few to share with you.

As you know I can't get enough of linen bedding, so when I find something new it gets my heart racing. Made in France, the Ruffle Blanket in Dove Grey features a ruffled edging that adds a pretty, textural element. Made from a double layer of linen, it's perfect for summer nights when it's too hot for a duvet. It also works well as a throw, adding an extra layer of warmth when the temperature starts to drop. Paired here with the Pure Linen Pillowcase Set in Dove Grey, make sure you check out the full range of linen bedding on offer. In addition to Ruffle Blankets and Pillowcases there are Duvet Covers and Sheets in a range of gorgeous colours. I also have my eye on the Stonewashed Linen Pyjamas for winter!

The Foxes Den offer an extensive selection of bathroom products. Just in, the Cotturk Bath Towels are beautifully thick and soft. Made from 100% cotton, the towels are hand loomed in Turkey by artisans using traditional weaving techniques. Absorbent and fast drying, this towel is truly luxurious to use! Available in Black and White and Grey and White (pictured), I love how the dot pattern adds a graphic element to our monochrome bathrooms.

Some of my most loved hand towels also come from The Foxes Den, including the lovely linen one above, and when it comes to Hand and Body Care, you are simply spoilt for choice. Here I've styled some of my favourite products from a variety of brands available at The Foxes Den including Bondi Wash, Stop The Water While Using Me and a new arrival from the US, Fig and Yarrow. Super kind to your skin, all of these products are made with pure, natural ingredients. Of course I also love the simple monochrome packaging.

Catering to every room of the home and with international shipping on offer, be sure to take a good look around online at The Foxes Den. If you are in Auckland visit them in person at The Shelter, located at 78 Mackelvie St, Ponsonby.

This is a sponsored post. I only work with products I love and all opinions are my own. For more information please visit my About Page.

A Touch of Autumn

While it's still very warm, the slight drop in temperature has been a welcome change this week. This home which I filed away some time ago has a warm, natural feel and a little bit of an autumn vibe. Perfect style inspiration for the new season.

All of the beautiful crumpled linen makes me want to curl up in bed right now. It's been a big week of parties and celebrations with our youngest son turning six. Unfortunately the change of season has also brought with it some germs and I'm feeling a little worse for wear this afternoon. Hopefully an early night will see me bounce back tomorrow!

Modulo Shelving System by Materia

I love a great shelving system, so I was excited when I came across the new Modulo system by Swedish design company Materia. Designed by Jesper Ståhl, it features flexible storage modules that allow you to organise and display magazines, books and accessories.

I just watched a video (with English subtitles) on the Materia Facebook Page where the designer talks about his inspiration behind the design. He says a key focus is magazine storage and as a bit of a hoarder I found myself sitting up and taking note. The shelves are designed in such a way that you can organise your magazines or create a 'frame' around those you want to display. I often buy magazines where the covers are literally a work of art and I want to show them off, so this really appeals to me. There's even a transparent acrylic box to place the magazines or other favourite items in. I also love the notice board where you can stick notes and postcards.

The Modulo shelf modules can be used as compact single units or combined together to create a fun, personalised structure. The beautiful styling of these shelves is by Katrin Bååth whose incredible studio I featured here

In Search of a Stylish Indoor Watering Can

Tending to a growing collection of indoor plants can be quite time consuming, especially over the summer months. The frequent watering has made me want to upgrade to a new watering can to pair with my new Mist Sprayer. One that is stylish enough to have on show alongside my plants. Looking around, there are some gorgeous designs on offer. I'm loving brass right now, and some of the stainless steel options.

Here are some top contenders, including a couple from favourite Scandinavian brands Menu and House Doctor. I was pleased to discover that the Brass Klong Svante jug that I've had my eye on is now available in Australia from Funkis (also available in copper).
