Georgia Macmillan | Winter 15/16 Collection Launch

Dubai-based Australian Georgia Macmillan spent years working in news journalism and PR, before returning to her first love of art. Creating beautiful watercolour illustrations, she has just launched a Homeware Collection featuring 100% linen cushions, throws and napkins, all digitally printed with her unique designs.

A native Queenslander, Georgia worked for a number of luxury brands in Sydney before moving with her family to Dubai two years ago. She credits both the move and motherhood for reigniting her love of art and began by producing a small range of hand-painted greeting cards. Proving a hit in Dubai and all over the world, Georgia was soon taking orders for everything from hand-painted wedding stationery to larger scale commissions and works on canvas. As you can see from the gorgeous new collection, her original artworks have translated beautifully to textile products.

The range consists of six different double-sided Cushions (with beautifully plump 100% duck down inserts). The vibrant Indigo Series is designed to mix and match, while the Grey Days will appeal to those who love more muted tones. The Big Throw and Napkins (available in a pack of 6) complete the collection.

Styling by Tory Waller and photography by Abbi Kemp

The gorgeous photoshoot took place in Georgia's Dubai studio, where all the products are designed and artworks are made. Danish design store D.Tales provided a secondary location, and I have to say, the pieces look right at home alongside the Scandinavian furniture. Freddy the family labradoodle is pretty cute too!

Georgia, who is also the Lifestyle Editor at The Grace Tales, sells her products exclusively via her online store. Worldwide shipping is also available.

Nespresso | New Pixie Clips Machine + Facebook Giveaway

I believe great coffee and great design go hand in hand. They are certainly two things I need daily, which is why I'm such a big fan of Nespresso, who as a brand combines the two flawlessly. Appealing to coffee lovers and the design conscious among us, Nespresso machines fit perfectly into a well styled space. Taking it a step further, Nespresso have now introduced the Pixie Clips machineFeaturing changeable side panels, you can give it a new look simply by clipping on a different pair. Ideal for a kitchen makeover, new trend or just for fun there's a wide range of panels to choose from allowing you to play with colour and texture. I recently picked a few out to style at home.

Gravitating towards the black clips (no surprises there) I had fun playing around with a couple of different textures. Depending on your preference you can choose from shiny or matt finishes, stripes or even a woven fabric. The black clips shown above are Cordura (left) and Matt Shiny (Right).

I really enjoy design that references typography and favourite cities, so the Cities Pixie Clip above was one of my favourites to style. I also love the colour palette - monochrome with a hint of dark blue.

Styling and Photography by Michelle Halford for TDC

This is probably the most colour you will ever see in my kitchen but I was surprised at how much I love the vibrancy of the Matt Red Pixie Clip. With so much versatility, the Pixie Clips provide the perfect opportunity to experiment and express your personality, as well as take risks and try something new. When you're ready to slip back into your comfort zone or try something else, you can!

To celebrate this exciting launch, I have a Nespresso Pixie Clips Black and Neon Lemon machine to give away to one very lucky reader! The winner will also receive the CorduraCities and Matt Red Pixie Clips that I have styled for today's post, giving a total prize value of $534.00NZD.

Simply pop over to the TDC Facebook Page to enter.

Alphabeta Lamp by Luca Nichetto for Hem

After going flat-tack all week I'm in much needed catch up mode today. I'm even sneaking in some household chores usually reserved for when the kids go to bed. The mountain of washing could not be ignored. With my nose down in admin, thinking that I would have to put the blog aside today, something caught my eye and I just have to share.

Alphabeta is new lamp by Italian designer Luca Nichetto, for Scandinavian design brand Hem. Featuring spun-steel shades that come in a range of shapes and colours, they combine clever design with great aesthetics. Used in pairs to direct light up and down from the source, when displayed in groups the shades allow for a vast number of possible combinations. Just like letters in the alphabet.

I'm absolutely loving the fresh Scandinavian styling by Lotta Agaton, captured beautifully by Mikkel Mortensen. Visit Hem to find out more.

Right, back to the boring jobs now.

Such stunning combinations, I love how the Ice Blue and Sage colours add a fresh touch to the White and Black linen. The Olive below adds a luxurious earthy layer to the Natural, Black and White linen.

Natural Simplicity

After a cold and miserable start to spring I am so happy to see the sun shining today, especially because it's my birthday! It's a normal work day with lots on the go, but I'm enjoying the peace and quiet after a busy weekend and looking forward to celebrating with friends and family later today and throughout my 'birthday week'.

With that said, I'm just popping by quickly to share some beautiful styling via Fantastic Frank. A lover of white bright spaces and monochrome accents, I find that more and more I'm adding warm neutrals to my home and styling and this is providing plenty of inspiration. A simple yet gorgeous mix of organic earthy hues, I love the use of natural materials including wood, linen, leather and cork.

The Luxuriate

It is with much pleasure that I introduce you to The Luxuriate today, a Melbourne-based luxury online candle boutique. With a distinct focus on quality, the candles combine the finest white Italian Carrara and Black Himalayan marble, premium soy wax hand-poured to order and and a range of 11 enticing fragrances. Candle lids add the perfect finishing touch in a choice of copper, gold or matte black.

For today's post I chose to style the black and gold lids for a few different combinations. Selecting fragrances was a little harder. From the exotic sounding Persian Lime and Lemongrass to the scrummy Salted Caramel, the aromatic choices are amazing. In the end I went with a spring/summer vibe to suit the change of season. As soon as I opened the beautiful packaging I knew I had made the right choice with Gardenia Blossom and Peony Rose. Both divine, the quality of the marble also exceeded my expectations.

Springtime | Bringing the Outside In

With the arrival of spring it's time to throw open the doors and windows, breathe in some fresh air and get a much needed dose of Vitamin D. Hopefully those of you here in the Southern hemisphere have a similar agenda right now! The focus is slowly shifting to the outdoors (ours is certainly a work in progress) but what's on the inside of your home is really important too. Choosing complementary colours palettes, plants, furniture and accessories helps to create harmony between inside and out. It also provides cohesiveness and a seamless journey between the two spaces.

Using a mix of plants in your styling is the first step. I'm taking inspiration from the oversized beauties. The bigger the better! Botanical artworks and textiles also provide a fun way of bringing the outdoors in, and I love the idea of bringing some coral into the home, either for our bathroom or the string shelf. I'm also thinking about using more natural elements reminiscent of outdoor spaces such as flax, rattan and wood.

Homes to Inspire | Relaxed Grandeur

Finishing off the week with a beautiful Norwegian home, I simply couldn't go past this one without sharing. I only wish there were more images. In terms of classical features, it doesn't get much better than this. I mean just look at that flooring and ceiling detail! Judging by the mix of design pieces from the owners clearly have incredible taste. The Gubi GamFratesi TS Table is a favourite, and I love their collection of statement lighting including the Brass Restart Milano Table Lamp the Azimut Industries Floor Lamp and the Tip of the Tongue Table lamp by Michael Anastassiades. Light-filled and spacious, there's a feeling of grandeur, yet it still looks relaxed and lived-in thanks to a varied collection of artwork, cosy textures and lots of books. The monochrome palette is warmed up with wood and brown leather, while the rug and floor cushions bring in a little bit of a Moroccan flair. There's no doubt about it. I could definitely live here!

A little reminder before I go that today is the last day to cast your vote in the Amara Interior Blog Awards. Nominated in the Best International Interiors Blog category, if you'd like to vote for me you can do so here. Thanks for you support! Have a lovely weekend.

A New Picture Wall

The idea of designing a new picture wall has been brewing for sometime, but the catalyst was the arrival of our new sofa. The squarer shape and darker colour was calling out for a bolder backdrop. Having changed the previous picture wall to all-white frames, I wanted to mix things up again by adding in some black ones. With a growing collection of prints to work with, my main goal was to come up with a new configuration that would continue to allow for changing out the prints as the mood takes me.

The last picture wall had a lovely sense of balance and worked really well with our old sofa. At the time I was quite particular about having equal spacing between the frames and for it to be centred above the sofa. As my taste and style has evolved over the last couple of years, so has my preference for a more irregular layout, so with that in mind I set to work.

Styling and photography by Michelle Halford for TDC

With the gorgeous Paper Collective print as my starting point, I decided to offset the grouping of pictures to one side. This design also works well with the modularity of the sofa, and the different configurations that I showcased herePlaying around with the prints on the floor first, it didn't take long to come up with one that I thought would translate well to the wall! The increasing height was more accidental, but I really love it.

What do you think?

Studio Spaces | Light + Natural

I've talked a lot lately about natural elements and wanting to introduce more into my home. Especially as the weather warms up, as demonstrated in my post from last week - Springtime | Bringing the Outside In. This week I've come across a couple of studio spaces that are offering some fresh inspiration, not just for my home but the studio I dream of one day having!

The first is located in downtown Los Angeles and belongs to fashion designer Shaina Mote. Known for her pared down, graceful collections, her pieces are all about clean versatile shapes with feminine cuts and structural play. Inspired by her travels, including a recent trip to Kyoto, this is reflected in both her designs and studio interior. Filled with light, natural materials and plants, it has a warm and relaxed feel.

Pop over to here to see the full studio tour and read an interview with the designer.

This next space is also filled with lush greenery and plenty of natural light. Belonging to the young but highly acclaimed Italian design duo Simone Farresin and Andrea Trimarchi of Formafantasma, it serves as both their home and studio. Concrete floors, white walls and exposed beams provide the perfect backdrop for the designers and their team to work on the incredible collections and objects that can be found at both MoMA in New York and the V & A in London, and at the influential gallery Spazio Rossana Orlandi in Milan.

Karen Walker Fragrances

As some of you may have seen on my Instagram, a highlight last week was testing out the Karen Walker Eau do Parfum. The Trio of fragrances: A,B and C are an exciting addition to the NZ fashion designer's existing repertoire that includes clothing, accessories, eyewear, and jewellery. Known for shaking things up, Karen Walker always finds a way of bringing something new and unique to the market, and these fragrances are no exception. Exuding optimism and energy, much like the designer herself, the fragrances were created in collaboration with Charobot, the oldest perfume house in the world. Travelling to Grasse in the South of France to work closely with them, Karen was able to form a partnership that combines the perfect combination of traditional craft and modern attitude.

“I’ve always wanted to create a range of fragrances and I’m thrilled with this trio. The three different scents allow the Karen Walker woman to have a scent for any mood, any day, any time and any occasion.” Karen Walker

To test out these incredible fragrances on the weekend, I decided to enlist the help of my close friend Natalie. Wine connoisseur and boutique candle designer, Natalie has a 'good nose' and natural affinity for beautiful fragrances having worked with perfumers in France. Of course I didn't need to twist her arm. Over a few wines we had a glorious girly afternoon, each deciding on a favourite!

I recommend testing them out in store, but here's a little bit about each, including their ingredients:

A is the happiness potion.
A refreshing, fruity floral with top notes of cassis, crushed mint leaves and grapefruit, heart notes of rose, lily of the valley, green tea and ylang ylang, on a solar musk base.

B is feminine and efflorescent.
A delicious floral gourmand with top notes of bergamot, pink pepper, and grapefruit, heart notes of iris, white rose, peach and Sambac Jasmine, and base notes of patchouli, praline, tonka bean, musk and vanilla.

C is addictive. It’s compelling, opulent and generous.
A creamy, sensual floral with top notes of gardenia, magnolia,
mandarin and bergamot, heart notes of tuberose, orange flower, Sambac Jasmine and lily of the valley, and base notes of sandalwood, amber, musk, and cashmere wood.

For the gorgeous cube shaped bottles, which are a design feature in their own right, Karen chose the world-renowned fragrance bottle creator, Pochet du Courval in France. Founded in 1623, Pochet has almost four centuries of experience in creating the purest glass for the highest quality luxury perfume bottles. The bright graphics, a bespoke A,B and C which represent Karen's chic-meets-eccentric style were designed by London-based design house DJA, who are famed for their work with Prada and Dior.

Styling and photography by Michelle Halford for TDC

The fragrance trio is exclusive to Harvey Nichols in the UK and Myer in Australia. In New Zealand it is available through the Karen Walker boutiques, top department stores as well as select fashion boutiques throughout the country.

Lene Rønfeldt is an accomplished interior stylist from Denmark. With nine years experience in styling photographic shoots and visual concept management, she has worked with many great furniture and design brands. Adding Louis Poulsen to an already incredible portfolio, her styling for the iconic Danish lighting manufacturer is inspiring. Lene says "I love that moment when light, colours and aesthetics fuse; when a mix of materials or colours add new dimensions to a product’s beauty... knowing how to add that little touch of colour, shade or texture that makes everything come together".

Lene's attention to detail clearly shows in her work, as does her respect for the product, its story and origin. Artfully mixing vintage with new design pieces to showcase the timeless Louis Poulsen lighting, these spaces are simply stunning.

Looking at this stunning home it makes perfect sense that the owner, Kim Dolva is a designer and carpenter. The kitchen cabinetry is exquisite! As co-founder and owner of Københavns Møbelsnedkeri, Kim specialises in luxury, handcrafted kitchens, with his own kitchen providing the perfect showpiece. His company also provides bathroom and wardrobe solutions as well as beautiful furniture and lighting designs. His home is located in west Copenhagen where he lives with his wife Mette Bonaventure, an interior stylist illustrator and ceramist and their two children.

The beautiful cabinets are made of solid smoked oak with hand carved brass knobs. The marble back bench and incredible black herringbone flooring add further wow. And how perfect is the pantry organisation? This is just the motivation I need to get ours in order!

Kim's impeccable craftsmanship follows through to the bedroom wardrobes. How I would love to own the Hans J. Wegner Circle Chair! See more imagery and the full article here. For further inspiration I also recommend popping over to Københavns Møbelsnedkeri for a look.

Zakkia | Spring/Summer 2015

Founded in late 2012, Zakkia specialises in quality, hand made products for the home. Created by Sara Lundgren, a Swede turned Sydneysider, the brand is a fusion of Scandinavian heritage and natural designs inspired by life in Bondi. A distinctive style that resonates with so many, it makes me extremely happy to announce the launch of their new Spring/Summer 2015 Collection today!

In keeping with Zakkia's signature aesthetic, the collection blends Scandinavian simplicity with a clean, monochrome base, beautiful textures and raw materials. Introducing for the first time a range of stunning hand blown glass vessels, the minimalist shapes mirror those that have featured in the first two collections. The gorgeous colour palette includes smokey black and a subtle aqua that is reflective of the Bondi lifestyle and coastal feel.

The braided baskets are another new addition. Made in Vietnam from water hyacinth, they are perfect for storing items around the home. The new ceramic and brass objects are also beautifully tactile, functional and versatile. In fact each piece has been thoughtfully created to have multiple uses.

The Summer range also sees the expansion of Zakkia's iconic concrete collection to include their very first 100% soy wax scented candle range. Named after the Swedish seasons, they include Sommar (sea spray and hay), Höst (French pear), Vinter (fig & vanilla) and Vår (cucumber & white jasmine).  The new Brass Candle Snuffer is also a must-have!

Sara, who first came to Australia on a six month student exchange seven years ago and never left, created Zakkia out of a love of home decor. Ordering from overseas online shops, the long delivery times and expensive shipping proved extremely frustrating, so she decided to take matters into her own hands. What followed was many months of hard work, designing and fine-tuning the pieces which are produced by small artisan communities around the world. Along the way Sara recruited Emma Williamson, an Australian returning home after living in New York, who has become the second driving force behind the brand. The pair says that the partnerships they have built with their suppliers in Vietnam, India and China have been key in achieving their goal. The small, family owned businesses that they work with have a huge amount of knowledge and skill and understand their mission to produce affordable pieces that are carefully handmade from high quality materials.

Photography by Sam McAdam-Cooper

When it comes to finding unique, hand-crafted pieces for the home without having to spend a fortune, Zakkia have certainly hit the mark. The beautiful Spring/Summer 2015 Collection is providing plenty of fresh inspiration, not to mention Christmas gift ideas! Now available online, and at selected stockists, take a look here.

Apologies for the sporadic posting. Set to continue for a little bit longer as I juggle school holidays and blog-related projects, I will be back full steam ahead the week after next. Stopping by briefly today, this bright white home is a breath of fresh air, especially as I look around my home which is scattered with toys and need of some attention of the decluttering kind. The dining area is particularly lovely with the Flos lamp and white Thonet arm chair, while the adjacent living area has a fabulous picture wall featuring black and white photography. I also spy a BoConcept Carmo sofa - the touch of tan leather looks lovely with the grey. And of course I love the gold accents that feature throughout the home, especially the 90 Brass Shelf Lamp in the bedroom.

TÊTE-À-TÊTE incendere

It's no secret that I have a weakness for beautiful scented candles but with so many on offer these days, it takes something really exceptional to catch my eye. Exquisitely presented with a fascinating backstory, TÊTE-À-TÊTE incendere immediately made me sit up and take note.

It began in the winter of 2013 when creator Vicki Kim decided to capture a cinematic moment from 1967 film, The Graduate. The concept of the candle was very simple - when Vicki was young, she’d experienced a form of synaesthesia that allowed her to ‘smell’ movies, and she wanted to find a way to share this with others. Inspired, she decided to pursue a personal project of capturing the essences of characters, moods and atmospheres, and then composing them as perfume notes to complete the olfactory experience. Original, evocative and lyrical, TÊTE À TÊTE allows you to contemplate a memory, a preserved fragment of time.

Since the initial launch, the brand has grown to contain four signature fragrances, each taking inspiration from an iconic cinematic moment. In addition to The Graduate, there’s Great Expectations (1998), Raise the Red Lantern (1991) and The Blue Lagoon (1990). Having always found smell to be the most powerful memory trigger, I find it intriguing how Vicki has made the connection with such iconic movies. I can only imagine how amazing these fragrances must be!

Currently residing in Sydney, Vicki was born in Seoul, Korea, and raised in New Zealand. A graduate of the prestigious Parsons School of Design in NYC, she has worked with various international luxury companies such as Cartier and Bulgari. Turning to her love of industrial design, Vicki spent 12 months designing and developing a new look for TÊTE-À-TÊTE incendere. Relaunched this year, the fragrances are housed in a beautifully crafted vessel that is truly timeless. Showcasing Vicki's thoughtful and considered approach to design, the metal holder allows you to slot in fragrance wax refills, to be retained and enjoyed over and over.

Styling by Joseph Gardner and photography by Daniel Gurton

Two years into the business, Vicki still mixes every batch of fragrance by hand in her small studio in Darlinghurst, Sydney. A true testament to her passion for creativity.

Bedrooms | Summer Styling

The kids have just gone back to school for their final term of the year and I'm now starting to think seriously about summer - both holiday planning and seasonal styling updates at home. When it comes to bedrooms we often focus on making them cosy for the cooler months but spring and summer bedroom updates are equally important. In fact today's post came about while looking through my 'Summer Barn-House Inspiration' folder which I've mentioned several times over the past few years. The dream of building a simple barn-like structure next to the beach is never far from my mind, but it tends to come to the forefront at this time of the year. I've added some gorgeous bedrooms lately, all of which have a holiday-home kind of vibe. Most are white and bright paired with warm neutrals. There's a pop of colour here, a rustic vibe there. Quite frankly I'd be happy with a plywood box or shipping container next to the beach, so these are purely fantasy but one can dream, right?

Caribbean style bedroom in a house in Stockholm by designer Richard Lindvall

Soft curtains or mosquito nets create a soft, billowy effect, while natural pottery, cane, cotton and crochet in tonal shades of white create a 'boutique hotel' vibe. Below Linen House creative director Michele Duncan says they have taken their cues from the stunning Australian coastline "to evoke a feeling of carefree summers spent by the beach". I love the addition of leather, concrete and black and white artworks.

Lazing around reading books, sandals and a sunhat ready to grab on the way outside, the bedroom above is rustic perfection. I love the exposed bricks, simple bedding and natural cane Leaf Stool

Via Alvhem Makeri

The bedding above reminds me of the beautiful new Summer Cultiver Linen in Sage which I was lucky to get my hands on. Giving our bedroom a lovely lift, it's no secret I swear by linen, which is both warm in winter and cool in summer. In addition to changing the colour palette, I also like to switch the wool blankets for lighter cotton. This is also an area where you can bring some of the outdoors in by way of natural materials. Right now I'm loving rattan chairs and woven baskets. Our bedroom is small but if I had the space I'd love a big area rug in a natural weave and a bench seat or chair. Vintage or upcycled pieces would be more than welcome in my summer barn bedroom! I'd also add green plants or simple foraged branches from outside, and a seashell or two collected from the beach.

Josefin Hååg + Kristofer Johnsson for Residence

Two of my favourite creatives Josefin Hååg and Kristofer Johnsson recently teamed up to work on a project for Residence Magazine. The apartment which Josefin styled and Kristofer shot belongs to Marie and Martin Anker Svensson and is located in the Oscar Properties building Biografen in Stockholm. I've been admiring these apartments for some time, having recently featured another of the buildings on the blog, Lyceum. In fact, while very different in style you can see the similarities to the kitchen layout. I do love the open shelves, but the grey tones paired with warm browns in this apartment are divine. Josefin always creates beautiful gallery walls and she has such a natural talent for creating cosy and inviting spaces. From the colour palette, lighting, furniture and artwork right through to every little finishing touch, there is nothing I don't love about the styling of this home. I just wish you could get Residence Magazine in NZ so that I could see more!
