The Yvonne Koné Shop in Copenhagen

I knew that this week would be a juggle with school holidays and work deadlines but I wasn't prepared for bugs to strike. Always the way when you're super busy and in typical working-mum style I'm charging on ahead getting ready for a shoot tomorrow. Despite feeling unwell I'm really excited about seeing the projects I'm working on take flight. I've got a fully booked schedule for the next couple of months and I'm feeling incredibly grateful to be working with so many great brands and companies right now from NZ, Australia and Denmark and Sweden. Today's post is one I have had up my sleeve for a while but didn't get the chance to post while I was in Melbourne last week. The exquisite Copenhagen store, Yvonne Koné, I'm sure many of you will have seen it before. It's had a lot of press, but for good reason - it's a must see and definitely on my list of places to visit when I make to Copenhagen!

Formerly painted a soft pink, I love this new change to the walls. Yvonne certainly knows how to create impact with colour. The interior is so clean and elegant, I can't get enough. If you're feeling the same there is more... Yvonne's incredible sense of style is also reflected in her beautiful home which can be seen inside the pages of the The Kinfolk Home

Finishing off the week with a gorgeous little home for sale in Sweden, the sunny living room and styling details make my heart sing! From the quirky shelves and blue-painted door, through to the bright and white tiled kitchen, the stylists have done such a great job of creating a home where everything appears to tell a story. I love the stacks of books and natural greenery dotted around the rooms. Cosy textures, interesting lighting and beautiful photographic art add further charm.

Long Weekend Lounging

It's a special day for NZ and Australia as we stop to commemorate our incredible ANZAC heroes. Even when I have to set aside time for work on a long weekend, I love that the extra day allows for more time to  relax. We've been to the beach, caught up with friends and family and eaten out at some lovely cafes. It also seemed like as good a time as any to start posting stories to the Snapchat account I recently started! If you're curious, you'll find me on thedesignchaser. I also came across this beautiful Swedish home and just had to share it with you before the day is out. Although small it has the most gorgeous living room. I'd happily lie down on that cosy vintage sofa with a pile of books and settle in for the night. And I do mean night... check out the full house tour and evening set up hereAmazing!

Textile Style Crush

This beautiful collaboration is between two creatives who continually inspire me, stylist Susanna Vento and photographer Riikka Kantinkoski. Working with brands Kinnasand and Danskina, both part of the renowned Danish Textile company Kvadrat, the spaces they have created are understated and elegant. I love how the rich textiles introduce another layer of warmth and texture, in particular the majestic green sofa upholstered in Kvadrat Harald and the stunning range of rugs.

Introducing Colors by Studio Esinam | Worldwide Giveaway

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Swedish creative studio Studio Esinam, their architectural prints having featured here on TDC more than once. They also proudly grace the walls of my home, and judging by the comments and feedback they get, I am clearly not alone. Which is why I am thrilled to be bringing you news of their beautiful new series today.

Entitled Colors, it consists of four limited edition prints inspired by the Nordic light and landscape. Known for their ability to communicate interesting perspectives on architecture by presenting it in fresh and new ways, Studio Esinam founders Josefine Lilljegren and Sebastian Gokah describe the series as "a minimalistic take on traditional Nordic scenes reduced to simple fields of color."

Styling by Susanna Vento / Photography by Riikka Kantinkoski

As you can see by this impeccable styling, the prints look right at home in a Scandinavian style interior. Creating a strong focal point, they provide the perfect way of injecting color while still complimenting the clean lines and understated elegance of these spaces. They would also pair beautifully with prints from the other Studio Esinam collections which you can check out here. I've had the pleasure of seeing these new prints in real life and they are incredible! Printed in a numbered limited edition of 1000 on uncoated Swedish high quality design paper, they measure 70cm x 100cm.

Now for the fun part! To celebrate this exciting launch, Studio Esinam are very kindly giving away one of these Colors prints to a lucky TDC reader. The winner will get to choose which one.

To be in to win, simply email enter@thedesignchaser.com with Studio Esinam Colors in the subject line. Please also include your full name in the email.

Open worldwide!

The competition will close at 9am NZ time (UTC +12) on Tuesday 3rd May. The winner will be chosen via random.org and announced on the blog that day. They will also be notified via email to select their print and arrange shipping.

Good luck!

My Zakkia Nordic Nightstand for Mother's Day

I recently had the pleasure of curating one of three Mother's Day gift packs with beautiful products from Zakkia. The Sydney-based company who I first featured here specialise in hand made products inspired by Scandinavian simplicity and raw materials that echo Bondi's rugged coastal feel. For my gift pack I have created a Nordic Nightstand with products that showcase a gorgeous mix of textures.

Thinking about what would appeal to all of the fellow Scandi-design loving mums I meet through the world of blogging and social media, I chose pieces that are both beautiful and practical for the bedside. These include a vase for fresh flowers, a mug, a place for small items like jewellery, and my must-have, a scented candle. The Höst (Autumn) candle I chose smells divine! The brass candle snuffer is the perfect little accessory to round off the pack.

With three different themed gift packs on offer, there is something here for every style savvy Mum. And not only are the packs being carefully wrapped, Zakkia are offering free shipping on all of them. To find out more and to shop the range, take a look here

In addition to taking part in this wonderful Mother's Day launch, I am excited to have been interviewed for the Zakkia Blog. I talk about everything from what my typical day looks like through to what fuels my creativity. For a read, pop over here

norsu interiors | 2016 Collection Launch

As many of you will now know I recently travelled to Melbourne to style the norsu interiors 2016 collection campaign. Working with inspiring norsu founders Nat Wheeler and Kristy Sadlier alongside renowned Australian photographer Lisa Cohen was such an incredible honour. Definitely my biggest career highlight to date, I am beyond excited to be sharing the images with you today!

Presenting an array of of interior living spaces in norsu's signature pastel colour palette, the images showcase the boutique's carefully curated collection of Nordic homewares and diverse range of art prints. The collection also features several images shot in a Scandinavian ‘boho luxe’ style, reflecting a new direction norsu is taking since announcing their partnership with iconic Swedish design-house Love Warriors of Sweden earlier this year. Adding yet another layer to norsu's already comprehensive offering of Scandinavian goods, Nat says (and I couldn't agree more) "We love that the term 'Scandi' - in the interiors sense - has so many different interpretations." With a product range that is constantly growing and evolving, norsu are able to provide customers with a unique offering across multiple styles.

Featuring an extensive mix of local and imported product, the images welcome many new and exclusive Nordic brands to the norsu collection. These include HK Living, Martin Moore, Studio Joop, Boomini, Kortkartellet, Vita Copenhagen and Lindholdt, teamed with local brands Globe West, Armadillo & Co, Incy Interiors, CULTIVER, Olli Ella, Raw Luxe Interiors, Byron Bay Hanging Chairs, Batch Ceramics, Evie and Woollen Collective.

The opportunity to style such a beautiful range of products certainly made this a dream job for all involved, but we also sought to deliver achievable looks. For everyday decorators, this means you can replicate these spaces within your own home.

I'm sure I've said it before but I often wonder whether Kristy and Nat actually sleep, because in true norsu style they have more exciting news around the corner. The release of this collection coincides with the opening of their second Melbourne retail store in Hawthorn next month! This larger store will compliment their existing Malvern East store by providing a space to showcase furniture, rugs and art within a styled insitu environment. It sounds so fabulous, I think I'll have to head back over to Melbourne just to check it out!

Adding another dimension to the campaign, this time around Nat and Kristy decided to film the shoot day. To see what goes on behind-the-scenes, check out the video below!

And finally in celebration of this exciting launch, norsu are very kindly offering a 15% discount on the new and exclusive Under Water series of art prints by Silke Bonde. Recently featured on the blog these three beautiful prints are showcased in the last of the campaign images above, alongside the gorgeous limited edition Blue World art print, also by Silke Bonde. Such a serene bedroom, this is definitely one space I would love to replicate at home!

Fitzroy Loft by Architects EAT

Completed in 2015, this warehouse conversion is the work of Architects EAT, an award-winning architecture and interior design practice in Melbourne. Located in the old industrial area of Fitzroy, the gritty brick building has been transformed into a family home with a mixture of open plan entertaining areas and smaller intimate spaces. Exposed bricks and beams together with new architectural detailing in steel and timber make for an incredible fusion between old and new.

How amazing is the suspended steel bridge? I also love the sliding door adjacent the dining area (pictured below) and the built in library. Clean and contemporary, the kitchen's soft grey palette and textural marble allows for a seamless connection to the more rustic living space. The sleek cabinetry has been used throughout the home, creating a wonderful sense of cohesion. The interior features a beautifully understated mix of furniture and design objects. Two pieces which immediately caught my eye are the leather Paulistano Chair and theHigh Key Tokyo Print by Derek Swalwell, while the stunning combination of lighting has me weak at the knees!

Mapiful

Swedish company Mapiful has been on my radar for some time. I love their unique concept which allows customers to turn maps of their favourite cities into beautiful posters. Deciding it was time update our living room picture wall, I decided to take up Mapiful's offer to create a few of my own!

I picked out three cities I have travelled to which are dear to my heart; Nice, Rome and New York. I then visited the Mapiful site to start designing my maps with their easy-to-use online tool. I decided to go with the geographical info and text layout offered but you are able to change these as you wish. With several themes to choose from, I decided on 'Modern' for both Rome and Nice, and one of their newer designs 'Strict' for New York. In addition to different poster sizes, I love that Mapiful gives the option of portrait or landscape orientation for your posters. Wanting to include both on my living room wall, I chose one of each.

When the posters arrived I was really impressed with the overall quality. Their clean, minimalist finish allows them to fit perfectly into our Scandi style home, amongst some of my other favourite art prints. I love that when I look at Rome and Nice I'm reminded of the magical time we spent there. New York sits perfectly in my office, where I can dream of visiting again one day soon!

With worldwide shipping available, the Mapiful custom service is also super affordable, with posters starting at just $60USD. All too easy! Which city would you choose?

Low Level Bookshelves

They may not be the best option for those with a bad back, but there is no denying the visual appeal of low-level bookshelves. When placed along the length of a wall in the living room or office as shown below, the top provides a great place to display favourite objects, while the wall space above is perfect for art works.

Homes to Inspire | Maison Hand

This incredible French home belongs to interior designers Pierre Emmanuel Martin and Stéphane Garotin of Maison Hand. Located in the Ainay district of Lyon, the 140 square metre apartment is on the third floor of a building that dates from 1852. The historic area, once home to aristocratic families involved in the silk trade has become a destination for stylish interior design stores, including Martin and Garotin’s own, Maison Hand. Just a three-minute walk from their home, they stock leading furniture brands as Living Divani, Carl Hansen and Gervasoni, along with their own custom-designed sofas and an in-house decorating service. In addition to an array of beautiful design pieces, their home features many objects sourced from the couple’s travels abroad. A true reflection of the owners personal style, the interior gives the home so much soul without detracting from the building's original features.

With an amazing mix of lighting, furniture and art, the main bedroom is positively swoon-worthy! These include the Monte et Baisse wall lights by Daniel Gallo, Gae Aulenti’s Pipistrello lamp, Warren Platner armchairs, a Christine Crozat collage and two tribal sculptures from Morocco.

Beautiful Inspiration from Filippa K

These images from Swedish fashion house Filippa K caught my eye over the weekend. A leading Scandinavian fashion brand, the company's key elements of style, simplicity and quality are those often used to describe beautiful interiors from the same region. It makes sense that the Filippa K head office in Stockholm showcases the same classic craftsmanship their garment designs are known for. Featuring a combination of clean lines natural materials, beautiful wall art and plants, the spaces have a fresh yet calm feel to them.

Images via Filippa K

Recently Filippa K enlisted Cereal Magazine to create a beautiful series of imagery around the theme of garment care.  The series shows how to wash, mend, and care for clothing, including advice on airing and using a sweater stone. In fitting with their overall holistic approach, I love that Filippa K are educating customers on how to build a long lasting wardrobe. Much like Scandinavian interiors which focus on sustainable products and longevity, it makes sense to continue this way of thinking from your home through to your wardrobe.

A Bright + Beautiful Nordic Kitchen

Some fresh kitchen inspiration for you today, this Nordic kitchen is bright, airy and so inviting. I can't resist a pitched roof and this ceiling with its wood panelling and narrow beams creates a visually striking frame for the open-plan kitchen and dining space. I also love the mix of lighting. In addition to enhancing the clean lines, the Bestlite hanging pendants draw the eyes upwards, while the the small Artemide wall lamps on the back wall are a really cute feature.

The crisp white palette is softened with the use of timber, including the impressive kitchen island bench top made of three wide Dinesen Douglas pine planks. The back bench top in marble adds texture while the simple assortment of kitchen accessories add a touch of colour. Completing the overall look of this delightful space are the Classic Wishbone chairs from Carl Hansen & Søn

Today's home belongs to the multi-talented Hanna Wessman, a television host, blogger and interior designer based in Sweden. Her blog Hannas Room, also a platform for nine other bloggers and a shop is one I've been following for a long time. Always inspired by Hanna's sense of style, I'm loving seeing inside her home where she lives with her husband and two small children. Understated and elegant, there are plenty of incredible artworks and iconic design pieces to swoon over, but it doesn't feel at all pretentious. Instead it feels cosy and lived in. Hanna has recently teamed up fellow interior designer, friend and colleague Louise Liljencrantz to launch a furniture brand Rood. After years of designing site-built solutions for her clients, Hanna says it felt like a natural step. Their first products include a beautiful dining table and nightstand which you can see in the images below.

Dining Table Lighting

A key element in the dining area, lighting can really create impact and even transform the entire space. Pendant lights are always a great choice for above the dining table, and today's post offers plenty of inspiration. When the dining furniture and surroundings are simple and elegant, a bold pendant light can create a sense of drama. Right now I'm loving the look of just one statement pendant light.

This next dining space features track lighting which I also love. They contemporary look and clean lines work perfectly with the home's sleek black joinery, without detracting from the statement artwork and incredible herringbone flooring.

Style Details + Lighting Love

Like many homes that are for sale this one has a freshly painted, de-cluttered feel to it. But what sets it apart (aside from the lovely choice in colour palette) is the impeccable styling details. I know I've said it before and will no doubt say it again, but the Swedes know how to do it right. Bright and inviting, the spaces have a relaxed, lived in feel and if I walked in to this open home I'd be taking notes on every piece of furniture, artwork and accessory, along with all the finishing touches. One of my favourite elements of this home is the mix of lighting, including the sleek floor lamp known as the Rope Trick designed by Stefan Diez by Wrong for Hay. The NOC clamp lamp by SmithMatthias, also for Wrong for Hay has been on my wish list for ages and I love the way they have hung the Menu Bollard Lamps in the bedroom. I might have to give that a go with mine!

The Panton Collection by Montana

There's something I really love about wire furniture, especially chairs. The iconic Harry Bertoia chairs are one of the finest examples and lately I've been pining after the Menu WM String Chairs by Studio WM by Menu. Now I have discovered some more wire goodness from Danish furniture company Montana with their stunning Panton Collection.

The Panton One chair was designed by Verner Panton in 1955 and relaunched by Montana in 2003. Since then they have gone on to develop a whole family of Panton One chairs, all based on Verner Panton's ideas and designs. This year the Panton One chair celebrates its 60th anniversary with three new frame colours: Black, Snow and Moulin Rouge.

The collection also includes the Panton Wire shelving system by Verner Panton. Raw yet elegant, light yet industrial, the units can be used individually or in combination. Incredibly versatile, they can be stacked on the floor, hung on the wall or used as room dividers.

The Panton Collection is not limited to wire. The classically elegant Panton Table is designed for many uses such as in the kitchen, as a side table in the living room or as a small meeting table. Beautifully simple in its design, the Panton Bachelor  is a versatile lounge chair that can be used for both indoors and out.

Alex Buckman Studio

As a lover of all things indoor plant related, I was excited to receive news of the Arbor Planter this week. The first product in a new series by Award-winning NZ designer Alex Buckman, the Arbor Planter was inspired by both nature and the need to create an object that could transform a space with ease. Celebrating functional, honest details, the Planter has been created with high quality materials and precision CNC machining. The result is a clean contemporary design that I have no doubt will appeal to many. Designed and hand assembled at Alex Buckman Studio in Wellington, the planter is available in black, white and pistachio as well as custom powder coated colours.

A masters graduate of industrial design, Alex also works at Weta Workshop in their 3D modelling team. Last year he was awarded a Bronze at the Best Awards for NZ's Best Product Design for his Canopy lighting system. Aesthetically beautiful, the concept behind this product is really intriguing. Combining LED technology and 3D printing, the diffusers take on organic forms made up of fractal patterns – geometries found throughout nature such as splitting crystals, splintering lungs, rivers, leaves, branches and snowflakes. These decorations have been proven to have positive psychological effects on people, as they are ingrained in the evolution of the human race. As Alex explains ‘it was important that this lighting system benefited the user both in functionality and general wellbeing to provoke the idea of how we design objects for interior spaces in the future.’ Available as a Pendant, Chandelier and Floor lamp, see the full range here.
